Facade of Rivington Place by David Adjaye is playing tricks with your eyes! Clever manipulation with perspective makes the building look much taller and shorter than it really is. The windows grow wider with the distance from the viewer and so decrease the perspective distortion. At the same time, the height of the windows is reduced with each level and so increases the vertical distortion. Get it? :) Probably the best way to understand is to visit it in person.⁠

Passed by the Mole House today, transformed by @adjayeassociates . The Mole house is a Victorian house under which the former owner excavated a whole network of tunnels and caves, even connecting into an underground train line. #Repost @artsatmit Can’t say we’re surprised to see @adjaye_visual_sketchbook on @artnet’s “10 Disruptors Who Are Completely Changing the Art World.” Earlier this year, Adjaye was the recipient of our 2016 #McDermottAward. A distinctive feature of the Award is a short residency at MIT, which includes a public presentation of the artist’s work, substantial interaction with #students and #faculty, and a #gala that convenes national and international leaders in the #arts. Adjaye’s comments on receiving the Award: “In my career I have sought to cross creative platforms, to collaborate with artists and designers from different #disciplines and to focus on the #creative discourse surrounding the act of making things.
