First image of the new base! To get started. the siblings are clearing out a crevasse between the mountains to use as a one-room-hovel. The huskies are helping carry, of course. We also brought the family’s old donkey, which is a thing that we have, for some reason.

Quick progress was made! Of course, the siblings came prepared - they brought bedrolls, books, and materials. Adkins built a makeshift bridge across the adjacent marsh, which provides a quick source of nutrition, courtesy of Von’s fishing skills.

With the initial shelter situated and a well dug, Adkins’s next task was to work on planting before it gets too late in the season. (The growing season here is only 30/60 days.) She’s focusing on a staple crop of rice, a small patch of cotton for future use, and an assorted herb garden.

Meanwhile, Von is already entertaining! Berrios, a curious visitor from a nearby settlement, stopped by. Von offered him his bedroll for the night, and humbly slept on the ground.

Berrios spent his time observing, praying, and talking with Von and Adkins about the local climate and populations. It was a great opportunity to build connections and learn about this new world! They made fast friends. Berrios enjoyed his visit, and looks forward to seeing how their plans for an inn and restaurant work out.
