The Ghost of You // part two. (kyungsoo au)
Summary; whilst running from your ability of seeing the dead, you stumble upon a handsome man with wide eyes and a heart shaped smile, who just so happens to be what you’re running from.
A/N: This is long overdue, I sincerely apologise. I lost motivation and I’m not happy with this chapter at all! Also, I want to just say, that this is a Kyungsoo au, however Chanyeol will feature in it a lot. He will not play a love interest but he will have a very important role in the story, and more exo members may make an appearance too! Is there any other members you would like to see?
Anyway, enjoy this shitty chapter. The ending is important though.
prologue part one
You woke up the next morning to the sound of people speaking. You sat up groggily, and rather confused as you rubbed the sleep from your eyes before getting out of bed. You grabbed your phone and walked slowly out of your room, to see Kyungsoo sitting on the sofa watching the television. He was currently watching Let’s Fight Ghost, and you could see Kim Sohyun an Ok Taecyeon currently fighting off a ghost. You had seen the kdrama before, and you knew what happened in the end and that made you frown.
How would Kyungsoo react?
“Are you a fan of this drama?” you spoke quietly, but Kyungsoo still jumped slightly before turning around and giving you a sheepish look.
“You scared me,” he turned back to the television before answering, “I began watching it before… you know. I never got to see the ending.”
“It’s nothing special.”
“Oh well, it’ll give me something to do whilst waiting for you to come back from work. When do you go in anyway?”
You looked at the clock to see it was 8am, and you weren’t due to start until noon, as Chanyeol had informed you earlier.
“Not for another four hours.” As you said this, Kyungsoo whipped his head towards your figure and stared at you with wide eyes.
“Why don’t you go back to sleep for a little while? I’ll come and wake you up in a little while.”
“Kyungsoo, I fell asleep at like eight o’clock last night. I don’t think I need more sleep,” you chuckled as he furrowed his eyebrows and stuck his lower lip out. “Plus, I’m already awake and if I go back to sleep, I’ll wake up feeling even more tired.”
You walked into the kitchen to make yourself some coffee, before settling down on the sofa beside Kyungsoo, with a small distance between you both. You had to shower and get ready, but you knew you would have plenty of time later. You found yourself glancing over at Kyungsoo, and you couldn’t help but marvel over his beauty. His plump lips suited his rounded face, with his long eyelashes that covered his large eyes. You couldn’t help but notice the bruises around his neck, and you wondered why you hadn’t noticed them before. They were slightly faded, but still noticeable. They were a purple colour, and they looked painful. He turned his attention to you, and he quirked an eyebrow, obviously curious as to why you were staring at him.
“We haven’t had the chance to talk that much, Kyungsoo.”
“Were you staring at me, just so you could tell me that?”
At this, you blushed slightly, as he cracked a small smile. You decided to ignore him and continued, “I mean, if you’re going to be staying here then I think we should get to know each other.”
As you spoke, his smile got wider and wider and you couldn’t help but smile.
“Staying here?”
“Well, yeah. I guess. I told you this already, didn’t I?”
“Well, yeah, but I thought you just said it yesterday to keep me happy. I didn’t think you were actually being serious. So, hearing you say it… Thank you.”
“It’s no problem,” you were about to speak again when your phone started ringing. You looked at your phone to see the caller ID was Chanyeol. You had exchanged numbers the day before so you could contact each other in case of an emergency at work. “Hello?”
“Y/N! It’s Chanyeol.”
“I know, I have caller ID.”
“Oh, yeah. Listen, I was wondering if you wanted to come in a little earlier? I can teach you some stuff we didn’t get around to yesterday. I just remembered mid-day gets a little busy in here and we won’t get time to go over other things. I mean, only if you want!”
“Um, yeah. That sounds great! I have to shower and get ready, so I’ll be there in an hour or something?”
“Perfect, see you then!”
With that he hung up and you glanced up at Kyungsoo who was looking at you with a knowing look.
“Did you get called in early?”
“Yeah, I did. I’m sorry Kyungsoo, can we reschedule? Maybe tonight when I get home from work?”
“Of course.”
You flashed him a quick smile before leaving for your bedroom, where you gathered your work clothes and underwear and headed to the shower. After a quick shower, you dried your hair and applied a little bit of concealer and mascara. Within forty minutes, you were grabbing your bag and apron and heading out through the door. You bid farewell to Kyungsoo, who was still seated on the sofa watching his drama.
You made your way down the streets of Seoul. You didn’t have a car, so you relied on walking everywhere. Your apartment wasn’t far from everything, so you couldn’t complain. Plus, you enjoyed getting to breathe in the fresh air and witness the little things on the street. As you walked, you couldn’t help but feel happy. So far, the city of Seoul had been good to you. Despite only being there for a few days, you felt at home. Everything was exactly how you wanted it to be – normal, despite the fact that one of your two friends was dead, but he was kind. Everything was going as planned.
Then you saw her.
She was covered in blood. Her face, her hands and her clothes were all stained red. There was a large gash on her forehead, and she was calling out to people asking them to help her.
But of course, they couldn’t see her.
That’s when you made your first mistake of the day. You didn’t avert your eyes, you continued to stare at her. And she noticed you.
“You! You can see me!”
At this point, you tried to ignore her and walk on, but it was too late. Your heart was beating fast, and you became sweaty. She reminded you of it. This ghost reminded you of the thing that scarred you for life. It was the blood and the aggressiveness.
You then made your second mistake of the day. You let your eyes wonder to her face, and then she definitely knew you could see her. She could see the fear in your eyes as you looked at her.
“Don’t ignore me. Help me!” it sort of reminded of you of Kyungsoo, and when you first met him. When he pleaded for you not to ignore him, but this woman was much more aggressive whereas Kyungsoo’s was gentle and soft. The woman continued to scream in your face, and your heart was beating so fast, you thought it was going to explode. The more she screamed, the more you felt like you couldn’t breathe. Eventually she stopped right in front of you.
She raised her voice and screamed so loud, you were surprised no one else actually heard it. Your hand flew to your head in pain, and you could feel tears forming in your eyes. You were struggling to breathe and all you could think of was it. She placed her hands on your shoulders and shoved you, before screaming “HELP ME!” as loud as she could, and then she disappeared.
You had lowered to the ground slightly, trying to catch your breath as you held you head in your hands. The thing about ghosts was, they didn’t understand how capable they were. They didn’t know the power they possessed, and just by getting angry, it made your breath catch and your head pound.
You had no idea how long you were crouched down, but you eventually heard a man asking if you were okay.
“Miss? Miss, are you alright?” you raised your head to see a friendly looking man with furrowed eyebrows staring at you. You had actually noticed a few people staring at you, judging you.
“Yeah, um, I get really bad migraines and I f-forgot to take my medicine this morning,” is what you stumbled out as you stood, with a red face and shaky legs. You hurried off, contemplating heading home and forgetting about work. But, you didn’t want to leave Chanyeol alone, he was already waiting for you. So, you forced yourself to move on towards your work.
You made your way into the café, taking out your apron and tying it around your waist. It was pretty quiet, and Chanyeol was behind the counter wiping down the counter. You made your way over to him and he gave you a large smile. You tried to offer him a smile in return, however you were still rather shaken up from the encounter, so the smile probably looked like a grimace.
“Are you okay? You look so pale, like you seen a ghost!”
You looked at him in horror, your mouth opening and closing. He gave you a weird look before insisting he was joking, and once again asking if you were okay.
“Yeah, I just… have a sore head from the busy streets.” You honestly had no idea what you had just said, it even sounded stupid as you said it and by Chanyeol’s expression, he was probably thinking the same.
“Okay, so I was thinking maybe I could show you how to work the new coffee machine? The boss delivered it this morning and showed me how to use it, and instructed I show you too.”
“Yeah. Sure.”
Chanyeol was great at explaining things, he was patient too, it’s just your head was all over the place. You were adding too many coffee beans, you would forget to turn the machine off and you even spilled boiling water over your hands. You were just thankful that the place was quiet, with maybe one or two people who were too busy to notice you.
By the time you had gotten it right, you had a little bandage on your hand and Chanyeol was looking at you with a concerned expression.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You seem a little off, or something. Do you want to head home? I can tell the boss you weren’t feeling well.”
“No, I’m fine! I-I just, this is hard.”
He didn’t look like he believed you, but you both continued anyway. It hit noon, and rush hour came. For around two hours, you were both extremely busy. You managed to forget about the woman as you focused on serving the customers. You both had a little break, where you both got to talk a little.
“My girlfriend moved to Seoul a few years ago. She’s from the west, and moved here to study and ended up loving it, plus she met me,” he flashed you a cheeky smile and you laughed. You had found out Chanyeol had one other sibling, and was born in Seoul. When he mentioned his girlfriend you immediately asked how they met because you loved hearing stories of couples meeting. “She went to a university and we were doing the same course. I was working in this little café, at the time and she used to come in. I could never work up the courage to actually talk to her in school, never mind outside of school. But one day when she was in here, she forgot her wallet so I gave her a free coffee.
We started talking more after that and we became friends before I finally gathered the courage to ask her out. She was originally only supposed to study here before moving back to the west, but she found a job here that she loved.”
You awed at the cute yet simple story. You had never actually dated anyone as everyone always thought you were weird because you ‘talked to yourself.’
Soon after, the café became busy again and when five rolled around, you were both cleaning and saying goodbye to the last few customers before closing. You both joked around a little, and you had completely forgotten about what happened earlier. Until you looked out the window, and you were sure you seen the woman again, however when you looked back a second later she was gone. It was enough to make your heart pump, though.
At 6:30, you were both finished cleaning and were getting ready to head home. Your palms were sweating and you felt nervous about walking home. The nights were starting to get darker, so there was currently only a little bit of sun left.
“Chanyeol! Do you drive, by any chance?”
“I do. Proud owner of a Mercedes Benz g-class. Do you want a ride home?”
You breathed a sigh of relief, “if it isn’t too much hassle.”
“My girlfriend doesn’t get home until for another few hours, so it’ll kill the time for a bit. Let’s go!”
So, you found yourself in Chanyeol’s big car as you zoomed down the streets of Seoul. The journey only lasted about ten minutes, due to the apartment being so close to the café.
“Do you like Seoul so far? You just moved here, right?”
“Yeah, I did. And I love it, it’s so big and beautiful.”
“It is a nice place. Have you made any other friends yet?”
“Um. Just… one other friend,” you hesitated. “He lives in my apartment building.”
“Ah! A close neighbour. Well, if you ever want to meet my girlfriend and her friends and my friends, then seriously, just ask. We don’t mind adding an extra member.”
“Thank you,” you felt your heart overwhelm with joy. Chanyeol had been so kind to you, and the thought of having more friends made you so happy. When you arrived at your apartments, you asked Chanyeol if he wanted to come inside for a coffee or something. You felt awkward not inviting him in after he had just drove you home.
“I don’t think I could manage another coffee, but could I actually use your bathroom?”
Chanyeol looked awkward from the moment he stepped inside your apartment. When you opened the door, you were greeted by Kyungsoo’s smiling face, however when he spotted the lanky man behind you, his mouth formed a little ‘O’ shape. Chanyeol looked unsettled, as he asked where your bathroom was. You smiled to Kyungsoo as you removed your jacket and took off your shoes.
Chanyeol made his way back into the living room area and smiled, however his eyes kept darting across the room. He looked uneasy and you asked him if he was okay. He assured you he was but you didn’t believe him. His hands were fidgeting and his eyes wouldn’t meet yours.
In fact, his eyes were looking beside you. At the same spot where Kyungsoo was standing.
“Y/N,” it was Kyungsoo who spoke. You kept your eyes on Chanyeol to pretend like you hadn’t heard him, however Chanyeol’s ears seemed to perk up and his eyes finally landed on you, they were wide and full of shock. “Y/N, I think he can see me.”
You whipped your head in the direction of Kyungsoo before looking back to Chanyeol, who’s mouth was opened slightly. Your own eyes widened and your head began to spin slightly, and you couldn’t help but gasp at the next sentence that came from Chanyeol’s voice.
“Y/N, c-can you see them? Can you see him too?”
