I'm rereading Mind Fuck (because it's not like I have a fuckton of other things to do, right?) and it's so awesome to see again how incredibly fascinated and incredibly wary Toreth and Warrick are of each other at first. How intrigued they are, how much they enjoy their little games. How utterly delighted Toreth is every time he can't read Warrick or Warrick surprises him.
And this: "However, it did confirm her opinions and, to her surprise and personal distaste, Warrick's. Toreth was manipulative and dangerous, and Warrick understood him perfectly. They were ... comfortable together." That's quite possibly the best summary of why I love their relationship so much. That entire conversation is gold - Warrick being all, "yes, I know I'm sleeping with a sociopath who tortures people for a living, and no, he's not manipulating me because I know exactly what he's doing, and I choose to fuck him anyway". And the bit where he's all "sexually he's the most talented partner I've ever had, personality-wise he's not my type" - JOKE'S ON YOU, WARRICK, THE CHARMING SOCIOPATH WITH ISSUES IS YOUR FUTURE LIFE PARTNER.
And I had almost forgotten that Toreth baits their murderer into killing another person so he gets new evidence to solve the case. What a brilliant piece of shit. And Sara's little comment of "the difference between interrogators and paras was that the latter weren't quite so dead behind the eyes" after that whole paragraph about how someone in Toreth's line of work needs at least one, better two personality disorders.
