acrylic, canvas 70*90 cm "And the lilac dawn came" 2022
The loumand failmarriage only gets more insane with every reveal I'm actually obsessed with it. Like basically Louis was a kind of shitty boyfriend to Armand (wouldn't commit to being his companion, was still hung up on his ex who he killed and who he was hallucinating the whole time they were dating) and Armand responded to this proportionally by colluding with his coven to have him and his daughter and his daughter's girlfriend publicly executed, and he spent ages making all the fun little projector animations for it and probably had a whole mock trial aesthetic moodboard and everything. And then Louis' ex who ISN'T dead teams up with his ex to get revenge on his other ex who tried to kill him, but he changes his mind halfway through the trial and makes sure Louis survives, and both him and Louis get turbo trauma by seeing their daughter killed horribly in front of them. Then Louis is mad at BOTH of them, because he thinks Lestat is why Claudia got killed, and because he thinks Armand just stood by and let the trial happen, but he can't just be single because he's got turbo grief and also the best revenge on Lestat is fucking Lestat's ex, so they get married and IMMEDIATELY fucking hate each other. Louis never loved Armand as much as he loved Lestat and was mostly only with him out of spite and grief. Armand is trapped in this insane lie that could fall apart at any moment; he chose his coven over Louis but then Louis fucking killed them all so he's stuck with Louis. And of course they're both miserable, and so Louis immediately starts fucking (and killing) other men - nearly 200 by the time he meets Daniel Molloy. And Armand initially takes out his repressed anger about this on Louis' new toy but then it turns out, huh, maybe this toy is actually kind of compelling? So whenever Louis cheats on him he goes and stalks Daniel Molloy for enrichment, and now they're BOTH in love with someone else while still pretending they're in love. And then that beaten up chew toy that keeps fucking up his life and fucking dubious twinks in cars is old and about to die so Louis invites him over to tell him his life's story/kill him finally/turn him?/sabotage his marriage for him, and Armand does sexy servant roleplay, and Louis offers to turn Daniel/have sex with him right in front of Armand who is deeply in love with him, and Armand tries to gaslight him back and puts the Steins in with his photographs. And then it turns out that shitty old man is actually a decent journalist and the marriage unravels and they're both FREE but this is very much not actually good for either of them or for society at large!
Oh and during ALL OF THIS they were fucking like crazy doing extremely not sane and safe BDSM.
Today I want to show you a very special painting. This place is part of my childhood and some of my happiest memories. I painted it after a trip to Russia in 2017. It feels like a lifetime ago. My oldest son had just turned one, and my husband and I traveled to visit my parents. My parents have a big off-road vehicle, and they love exploring places where ordinary cars simply canât go-deep forests, marshes, hidden lakes, and quiet rivers. They took us on many adventures, and this was one of those places. We spent the day fishing there and even caught a few large northern pike. This landscape is near the village of Kholuy in the Ivanovo region of Russia.Although I painted it years ago, it isnât for sale. It is the only painting that was permanently damaged during the catastrophic flood that hit my gallery in 2021, After days of heavy rain in Belgium and Germany, a dam had to be opened overnight to prevent an even greater disaster. Nobody had time to prepare. During the night, the water rushed into the building. The flood reached almost 2.5 meters (over 8 feet) high, nearly touching the ceiling. My paintings floated in muddy water for many hours.Afterward, I washed and disinfected every painting by hand. Many survived surprisingly well, although several wooden stretcher bars warped as they dried. This painting was less fortunate. It must have fallen in just the wrong way, and part of the thick acrylic paint layer detached from the canvas. It now has a small but visible scar, and I still donât know the best way to restore it.So it hangs in my home instead.People often ask whether itâs okay to touch my textured paintings. I always say yes you can gently touch them with your fingers or even wipe them with a damp cloth if needed. After seeing paintings survive a flood, floating in dirty water for hours, itâs hard for me to imagine that even thousands of curious fingers could do more damage than that one night did.
Sometimes a painting carries not only the memory of the place it depicts, but also the memory of everything it has survived.
acrylic, linen 100 * 120 cm âbalanceâ 2019
The summer between the end of high school and the start of college, I wrote a ridiculous play about pirates and put on a staged reading with some friends at an amphitheatre at a local park before a small audience of friends and family. It was never published or staged again. But I just got a message from an old high school friend I havenât seen in years. He accidentally quoted the play in a conversation with friends, was asked what he was quoting, he couldnât remember either, and wracked his brain until he finally remembered it was that silly play reading that we did one day in the park over 10 years ago. It made me happy. (The line was, âHuzzah for mercantilism!â by the way.)
A very tiny percentage of creators go on to be famous, but that doesnât mean that people donât remember little things you did for years and years. Who came up with most of the worldâs most famous jump rope rhymes? Who coined some of the famous idioms we use in daily speech? Who made up âJingle Bells, Batman Smells?â Somehow, all of these things stuck and spread around.
When I was a small child, I saw a high school put on a production of the musical HONK. In one song, the mother duck describes various dangers that her baby should avoid in the water, including fishing line, which could strangle him. A member of the ensemble played the role of fishing line, doing a maniacal laugh and over-the-top strangling motions, and I found it hilariousâ and to this day, thatâs an example I often think of when talking about how ensemble members can still stand out in theatre. The guy who played the role might not even remember that he did that, but I do.
I took Suzuki violin lessons as a kid. The teacher made up lyrics to some of the songs, and she let her students make some up, too. Now whenever I hear the instrumental of one of those pieces, I always remember these ridiculous lyrics about a skunk that we sang in violin class. I donât even know which student invented them!
In middle school, I found a video about atoms parodying Bill Nye made by some kids for a school product. It probably had less than 1,000 views, but I think of quotes from that video all the time. They had a parody of âWe Will Rock Youâ with the chorus, âProtons, neutrons, electronsâ that I think about a lot.
I just love that this is part of human life. Our memories donât just pick up quotes from great art, literature, and music, but little things, too.
another art for the book 'Call Me Traitor' by Everina Maxwell (cause I'm thinking about them)

we are witnessing the gentrification of the term "tumblr sexyman" in real time and it is extremely disappointing. like no, live-action white boy #265 played by ryan gosling isn't a tumblr sexyman. i can't believe i have to say this but if it wouldn't get you shoved into a locker it probably isn't a sexyman
THIS IS WHAT IâVE BEEN SAYINGGGG
