What character if any do you think the fandom mischaracterizes? How would you fix it?

Talia Al Ghul, and I'll fix it by nerfing Grant Morrison, next question please.

In all seriousness, Talia is an amazing anti-hero, who had a lot of good qualities that shaped her into a good character. She's morally grey all on her own, and there is a lot of rich history already there to explore. Especially when you think about her relationship with Ra's Al Ghul, Damian, and ESPECIALLY Bruce. What Grant did to her in the comics was completely unjust, and did not have to happen. And I'm happy to see most of the fandom doesn't consider it canon.

But with 'Batman and Son' being one of Damian's titular comic roles, it's a shame to see his mother so heavily mischaracterized by the author himself. And while I do understand why some people see it as canonical, since again, Batman and Son is important to the Batman/Damian storyline, it's an unfair portrayal of Talia.

hiya, i'm sorry that we've missed your friend's first submissions! it seems their posts aren't showing in the #hetaween 2023 tag, so we didn't see them when doing our checks. we'll add them to the queue to be shared today.

please note: the reason their posts aren't showing may be because they are a new user, so their posts won't appear immediately in tags. it could also be one of their blog settings preventing the posts from showing in tags. please be assured that your friend was not overlooked, and we did not forget to share their amazing art! we just didn't know it existed!

a note for everyone: please tag the blog in your posts. when you @hetaween-event we get a notification, which helps us find your work. we do also check the #hetaween 2023 tag a couple times a day, but as you can see, it isn't a system without flaws! that's why the first hetaween event rule is what it is!

just so you all know, whenever we see a submission, we will like it, and then queue it. so if you see a notification that says we liked your post, you're all set! and in the event we do miss your post (sorry in advance!) just drop us a message and we'll get right on it!

we will be accepting OCs in the event. this includes OCs of non-canon nations and by extension their alternative 'versions' as well (e.g. nyotalia, 2p!talia...), as well as other non-nation characters you may wish to have in your works. as long as you are using a clear tagging system that follows the rules post, or you include a #oc tag so we know when reblogging, then that's fine with us! 👻

How hard are we supposed to adhear to the prompts? I had an idea for day 5 in which a socially awkward ghost pretends to be a demon to scare off the people who've trespassed into their abandoned home... Do I have to include an actual demon for it to count?

so, of course we want to see the prompts used in some sort of way in works - the idea of a prompt is to inspire and guide you! but we also don't want you to feel you have to take a prompt and be literal and direct with it if it's not working for you, or inspiration takes you down a different route.

looking at your example, that work would absolutely be acceptable for the event! it's a fun twist on the prompt, which is great to see when the prompt allows for other cool interpretations like that. that being said, for prompts like 'werewolves' or 'vampires' it's likely you'd take it at face value and we love that too! you guys voted for these prompts, after all - and we're dead excited to see what you all have in store!

in conclusion, should you find a prompt you feel you're able to utilise in a different way to the 'obvious', then we say: go for it! as long as it's clear how a work links to a prompt, then that works for us! but there's no pressure to do so either. and if you're ever in doubt, you're always welcome to ask us to check! :)

I know sometimes vampires or demons are depicted as having mind-control powers or bewitching/seducing people supernaturally, would a scenario like that be considered as breaking the n-con rule

hi anon! you've presented a really interesting question actually, and something we haven't considered until now.

our stance on this for the event is that no, any sort of bewitching, mind manipulation, etc, would not be viewed as n-con as in the event rules. vampire hypnosis or love potions or anything like that is fine - in this instance, we just ask that the work be tagged with something like #cw manipulation or #cw mind manipulation. perhaps even #dubcon. anyone who doesn't wish to view work with these themes is in turn encouraged to block/filter the tags, and just be cautious.
