Gilbert is Matthews mentor! He’s taking Matthew on a northern retreat to teach him about hunting techniques and royalty positions, since Matthew will inherit the position of second in command one day

how do gilbert and matthew interact in your au? like is it a strictly mentor/mentee relationship, or are they also friends? how about gilbert and francis? oh, and you mentioned that because of where they live, the mermaids need darker skin to blend in (or something along those lines...) how does gilbert's (presumed) albinism affect him in that arena? sorry for the number of questions shsdksls
Francis and Gilbert grew up together! Gilbert was the son of the mermaid who trained Francis for the position of king, so they were really close
Regarding Gilberts albinism, it was hard for him to fit in because he had to stay in deep water and up north instead of near the shallow water because of the sun. he whole reason the mermaids are dark skinned is so they won’t burn in the shallows where they hunt down south.
Gilbert inherited the mentor position from his dad after he died, which is a huge position and he has to keep up the incredibly high standard
