Nemea, Argolis
“In these mountains the cave of the Nemean lion is yet to be seen, and the village Nemea is distant from hence about fifteen stadia. There is a temple of Nemean Zeus in this place well worthy of inspection, though the roof of it has fallen off, and no statue is left. About the temple there is a grove of cypresses: and they report, that Opheltes, being placed here on the grass by his nurse, was destroyed by a dragon. But the Argives sacrifice to Zeus in Nemea, and choose a priest for Nemean Zeus . They propose, besides this, a contest of the course to armed men, which is celebrated in the winter. The sepulchre of Opheltes, too, is in this place, about which there is an inclosure of stones, and there are certain altars within the inclosure. There is also a tomb raised from turf, of Lycurgus the father of Opheltes; but they call the fountain Adrastia, either because Adrastus discovered it, or for some other reason. They say, however, that the region was denominated from Nemea, the daughter of Asopus.”
— Pausanias

“It appears, however, from the present passage, that a part of one of them consisted in explaining the labours of Hercules, who, like Odysseus, is an allegorical character, representing the progress of a man from the impurity of a sensible life, till he acquires the perfection and purity of a life intellectual and divine. Hence Proclus on Plato's Republic, ‘Hercules being purified by sacred initiations, and having acquired undefiled advantages, deserved a perfect establishment among the gods.’ We may conceive, therefore, that by the club of Hercules is meant philosophy, and by his lion's skin, prudence; through whose assistance he tamed the passions, those monsters of the soul, and destroyed vain cogitations: both which are occultly signified by the twelve labours he endured.”

Thought of the Day: It is better that one hundred innocent fall before the wrath of the Emperor than one traitor kneels before the lords of darkness
Angelhood // Treasure // Box office ♡♡♡
Angelhood - What is one of your favorite memories?
I was going to say me hiking a waterfall for Stephany but I already said this on another ask. I would say seeing my little brother graduating high school. It is one of my fondest memories and watching my little brother walk the stage with his big goofy smile. :)
Treasure - What is your brightest characteristic?
I don’t know if I do have a brightest characteristic. lol JK I think I would say I am humble and very hard headed (in a good way). XD
Box office - What is your favorite film?
Lyra you would give me a hard one! XDD I actually have two favorites; Speed and The Man From Nowhere. Speed has been my childhood fave film because my father watch it all the time and he loved the main character (Jack) and he actually change his name after him when he officially got his US citizenship. The man from nowhere was the first film that made me bawled my eyes out and made me love the character Tae Sik Cha. He deserves better like someone we know. ;-;
Thank you very much for the ask Lyra! ♥
Send me tender ask!

Statuette of Nemesis in Form of Female Griffin with Wings, 2nd century CE, Egypt. Faience, glazed, 9 3/16 x 2 13/16 x 4 3/16 in. (23.4 x 7.2 x 10.7 cm). Photo: Brooklyn Museum, New York, 2018. (X) License: CC BY 3.0
Nemesis is the goddess of indignation against, and retribution for, hubris, evil deeds, and undeserved good fortune. The ancient Greeks depicted her as a winged goddess with a wheel, the symbol of cosmic balance and redress of injustice, and a griffin, maintainer of law and order. By Roman times, the griffin with the cosmic wheel were commonly used to depict the goddess.
Nemesis is said to be the daughter of Nyx and Okeanos. However, as Adrastia (Inescapable), the goddess of revolt, just retribution, and cosmic balance, she is regarded as one of the daughters of Ares and Aphrodite, and accompanies her father to war.
