@loflight501 it is all your fault that I goofed off at work today to give Adrian some love
Embrace The Moon
This wasn’t what Adrian had expected from his life. He had had a job he had believed in, he had a girlfriend he had loved.
Now he knew his job led the indeneration of children.
Now he knew his girlfriend had been one of seven.
And she was gone. Monday was gone.
He and Monday’s two remaining sisters had been meeting up to watch over the development of his twins for months. He loved Karen, nee Thursday, and Terry, nee Tuesday. It wasn’t a romantic love, but they were family now. There was no doubt about it, even if the twins didn’t exist, these two women were his sisters now.
But the twins did exist.
And today was the day. Adrian was almost vibrating with tension. Today he was becoming a dad.
He wasn’t ready.
He couldn’t stop himself from fidgeting.
“You will be fine,” Karen said. Her voice was - not sharp exactly. Karen was all hard angles, physically and mentaly. He loved that about her.
“Sure,” Adrian said with a smile that came and disappeared in a breath.
"You should come back to the apartment with us,” Terry said, touching his shoulder, “it is huge and with just us…”
"It is nothing like it was before the explosion,” Karen said.
They were still talking, but Adrian wasn’t listening anymore. Two nurses had come out, each one holding a baby in her arms. Suddenly he was standing with them. He didn’t remember standing or walking to them.
"Here is your Papa,” one nurse said, gently transferring her precious bundle into his left arm.
Adrian had been told that babies all have blue eyes, but when he looked into his daughter’s eyes, they were a dark gray. She had wispy dark hair.
She was perfect and Adrian felt cracked open. Like he was being filled with sunlight and it was shining out of him. He cooed, “Hi Hala.”
"You have two arms,” the other nurse said gently, “or do you want to give Hala to one or her Aunts.”
He didn’t want to let go of Hala, so he reached out for his other daughter.
"Careful,” the nurse said, settling his other daughter into his free arm.
"Hi Diana,” he said looking into his second daughter’s eyes. She looked just like her sister.
She looked *nothing* like her sister.
Then Terry lifted Hala out of his arm. Then he was surrounded by his family. Then he let himself be swept along as Karen got them a cab and got them back to the apartment where Karen - his Karen- his Monday- had grown up.
And they were right, it was different. There were rooms set up for the babies. Rooms for him.
"It is better if we are all together,” Karen said.
She was right. Adrian knew that. It would be easier with help. It would give Karen and Terry a piece of their lost sister.
Adrian nodded. He would stay with his family.
"Their names?” Terry asked.
"The moon,” Adrian mumbled, embarrassed.
“For Monday,” Karen said, her voice gentle.
That made it too much. Adrian buried his face in his daughters, holding them tight against his chest. He could feel his heart expand, embracing his new family.
Embracing Monday.
Embracing the Moon.
Oh, it’s not Tuesday anymore. It’s Terry. Terry. So... what should I call you? Karen. Karen Settman.
