Week#4 - Tri3 - Zombies and Decisions

At film school this week, everyone had to pitch for a main role in an upcoming production. Obviously I pitched to be an Editor and colourist. 

It started off very chill but eventually got very competitive, with everyone motivated and determined to sell their skills to the best of their abilities. I started off very relaxed but as it came to my turn, my nerves shook. Hands shaking. Sweating.

Standing at the podium was a very traumatising experience, like I was running for President. I looked up and saw dozens of eyes looking at me in interest. My hands were still shaking, but I become comfortable as I became more switched on to present my abilities as an editor and story teller. As the presentation went one I became more relaxed and focused. I believe I did my best. 

When all the pitches ended, we had time to personally introduce ourselves to the producers of the projects. Some one on one, casual chat. 

I was shocked as well as honoured when one of the producers Matt Smith, approached me very interested in my editing abilities using After Effects and Premiere Pro. He began telling me about his Zombie film and how it is like non other. He grasped my attention instantly and I begun envisioning his story. I was hooked. He eventually asked if I could the editor for his Zombie film. Without hesitation I said “YES!”

The next couple of weeks will be a tiring pre production process with countless meetings and tests. But, I look forward to it.

Week#3 - Tri3 - My Third week Writing

Still very fresh to the screen writing scene, week three was filled with many learning curves including dialogue fixes, structure and even the simple stuff like grammar. 

To address the mistakes of my second draft, I began revising my notes pointed out by my class mates. They were very helpful in truthfully providing their honest opinions about the script. Even though I was firing up inside (defensively) I believed their opinions were of significant importance. So I began working on my very young script. 

4 hours later I had fixed the little mistakes that needed addressing to make the story circular. At this point I felt that my script was one step closer to completion. But as I look at it, I realised that it needs much more work. 

From this moment, I grew to respect writers a lot more for their dedication and countless hours editing and resolving story problems. I could possibly not handle spending that much time writing. It is definitely an art of it’s own.

I still think Editors are the best in the world ;)

Social Media & My Influences

Social Media is a very large category within the creative Industries of today. It can be used to advertise ourselves, present our work and as well help us communicate with new and known creatives. Without it, some industries would struggle to thrive. 

Imagine if you couldn’t watch the latest film trailers on the web? would you be temped to go see a film at the cinema? 

It’s an interesting reality that if social media didn’t exist, films and other creative industries wouldn’t be as big as they are today. 

Talking about trailers, almost every film maker has their influences. It may be Steven Speilberg, George Lucas or even Michael Bay (How dare I say that!) But it’s true. Someone in this world has Michael Bay as one of their key influences for making films. You never know, they might love heaps of ridiculous action. 

When it comes to trailers, The Dark Knight (Theatrical Trailer) by Christopher Nolan inspires me the most because to me it was the beginning of a new age of hero films. A more realistic approach. 

Personally believe that realism is the main way to make your audience feel the emotions of the characters. (That’s another reason why I love practical effects)

But this trailer inspires me because of it’s look, it’s suspense and the build up of action. I aim to make films the same amazing way.

A Film Makers Income and Creative Team Work

It is needless to say that the Film Industry is a very tough business to be in when it comes to having a steady salary. Becoming rich is a long shot. But to us film makers, our art is more important to us then the amount of zeros we have in our bank accounts. 

When we have a “light bulb” of an idea, funding becomes our biggest issue to bring it to life. This is when us film makers become extremely determined as creatives. We will become researchers, presenters and business people in order to achieve what we set out to make. 

Funding for a film can be found in many places including the internet, funding industries and even our own pockets. But we can also look for help from other creative industries such as Game, Music and Design. 

With a team effort, anything can be achieved. 

As creatives, thats what we’re best at.  

In almost every major feature film ever released, a variety of creative industries are included to create a masterpiece. Companies such as Disney, Universal Studios and Fox all are very famous for these trends. One of the most famous films ever to hit the big screen, Star Wars (My favourite), was memorable for its opening credits and soundtrack. Now imagine this iconic beginning without music or graphics... It wouldn’t be so memorable. 

Now you can see how important teamwork is within the creative industry. Without it, our “Light Bulbs” could never be created the way we envisioned it.

Sadie Hawkins Dance | Adriette

Juliette glanced at her reflection in the mirror and nervously fingered the edge of her short, black dress. She fixed the lacy three-quarter length sleeves and ruffled her freshly curled blonde hair. Juliette slid on her flats and spritzed on some perfume before taking one last look in the mirror. She knew that her dress was probably too casual for the event, but honestly, who just conveniently owned a nice gown? Probably all of the other girls here, she thought to herself. However, Juliette was determined not to let something as stupid as that put a damper on her night.

Juliette had asked Adrian, and she was glad she did. If anyone could keep her entertained at the dance, it was him, and she simply wanted to know more about him. She found him such a cool, endearing guy, and Juliette felt like she could listen to him talk for hours. Strangely enough, Juliette also felt like she could talk to him and he would really listen, instead of just pretending to listen like others did. He seemed to really get her.
