Way of Kings Live Review (part 2)
I love how Sanderson describes battles, actually. It's something I've always found hard to get into in books, because I think they can all... Disappear into each other, and read the same - swords clash, arrows fly, men thrown to the ground, etc... But so far, each of the descriptions have made me feel for a random person and promptly killed them, while someone else is observing something that makes that battle different. It's incredibly good storytelling, and I can imagine it being used very well in a TTRPG narration to keep things fresh; "this battle isn't about the battle, it's about the Bridge, or the squad's manoeuvres, or gaining information, or," etc. I'm very excited to read more about the battles, which I've never been! :D
Again, love Shallan. Knowing her motivations for wanting to become Jasnah's ward again gives her more depth and makes her more real, and the way she describes drawing, it's clear that Sanderson does art himself. She's charming and determined and intelligent - like I said before, she plays intelligent, confident naivety very well! More people should be as honest as her about what they know and don't know
I have theories about Kaladin's windspren
I know Brother Kabsal is not going to be a main character but he made me laugh with the "that artist... One of the best, for sure, but he's got this terrible ailment - being dead for 300 years." I immediately love him.
On that point, I love all the characters. They're all so... Real, and beautiful.
Also I just got the drawing of Chulls and they're cuter than I imagined!!! I love all the animals he describes, they sound so varied and wonderful <3

Way of Kings Review so far:
I love Shallan. She is so innocent and also so educated, like the exact perfect blend of "if I was in my own city, I'd be a boss ass bitch" but she's in a new place and she's excited and always has shit she wants to say, and she could get robbed at any moment, but she's not dumb for it. Perfect example of "smart person in a place they don't know"
I love how they started with everyone talking about how cool and impressive Kaladin was, how he led a team and was the best group leader, how pretty much everyone always survived under his leadership... Until they Didn't, and now he's a wet rat of a man (understandably)
I'm unsure how the two prologues tie into everything but my god... They were frickin' sick, yes (I also just have this with "a war a thousand years ago" prologues, same thing happened to me with FE3H, couldn't tell you how that prologue is relevant)

Kaladin is always trying to help people who need it and shit on bullies, and it's consistent even after he was dishonourably discharged. I love that for him so much, and I'm fascinated by the windspren who is talking to him now. Like Tinkerbell.
