Sometimes, you see something that makes you go wow. This drawing by Advanced Drawing/Portfolio Development student Amy was such an amazing piece in last week’s crit class! Students got to get in close and examine her pen drawing, talk about what makes it so enthralling and even a few little things to improve it further! It’s always a good idea to take time to discuss your work, which is why our Advanced Drawing/Portfolio Development class here at ActonArt takes a day every few classes to talk about what students have done!
A glimpse at some of my final pieces.
I am so pleased with how this body of work developed. I truly feel like my concept is conveyed in a way for the viewer to understand. I also feel I was able to improve my painting and portrait skills.

The way we view the world is constantly changing, dependent on our mood, surroundings, levels of stress, media interaction, etc. This body of work aims to visualize these changes through the use of shadows on portraiture. The watercolors used to create these works embodies the ethereal quality that such quick changes can create within our own world. The pen work grounds the piece in reality, despite where our perception might be at the moment. The color complexity of each piece also works to display the variance of perceptions that only has one constant: change.
