To the surprise of exactly no one, one location can often be vastly different from another. The difference, Jongsuk supposes, lies in the blueprint of the place—the different twists and turns in different locations, where left may be the place you’re looking for in one location and the place you’re trying to avoid in another; the behaviours and looks of people that contribute to the overall mood of the masses—the people of Incheon, Jongsuk finds, are much tenser than the people of Seoul, and the reason is something he intends to dissect; and perhaps the way on which one reacts to the environment around them. In his case, he finds himself subtly seeking comfort in the small and sparse similarities between Seoul and Incheon, such as how all KBS buildings paints its walls the same shade of blue, or how the disharmonious ring of many phones at once as well as the unintelligible murmur of the many people within boasts of a typical busy day that is characteristic of all KBS branches.
(He finds himself trying to replace his old home with this foreign one by looking unto the similarities of the different places and accumulating the feelings and whispers of home in hopes of tricking his buzzing mind, but he has yet to find success.)
But Jongsuk is as stubborn as they come, and so giving up is the last thing on his mind as he looks instead, at the many faces of the many KBS employees, hoping to find the one that belongs in both backdrops of Seoul and Incheon, just as he supposes he will be in the future. And in an incredible plot twist, said person is not his wife.
It’s Park Bogum, and a smile brightens Jongsuk’s face upon recognising his old friend.
Jongsuk had met Bogum when he first joined KBS, and had guided the man in the beginnings of his life at the news station. Sure, there had been many other juniors alongside Bogum, but Jongsuk had always favoured the latter because it seemed as though Bogum and him operated on the same wavelength that others often found were far too fast to catch. Soon, the man had worked his way into Jongsuk’s heart, and he is proud to call the former his brother.
“Bogum!” he calls out as he closes the gap between the two and envelops his junior in a big hug, “it’s been awhile. Too long, actually.”
He releases the latter from the embrace, but his hands remain on Bogum’s shoulder as he notes, “Incheon seems to be treating you well. I can only hope it does the same to me,” and teases, “but I’m sure you’ll be there to help me learn the ropes, yeah? Just like old times, only the roles are reversed now.”
Jongsuk playfully salutes and bows, “please treat me well, senior Bogum!”
(His ears perk up as he notes that he’s attracted the attention of some from his spirited display, and he briefly suspects that it’s because they’re aware that Jongsuk is the true senior out of the two, but he’s quick to tune them out. After all, one is often blind to seniority when it comes to their best friend.)
