(Replaying skyrim to flesh out Celaena and Aed)
Strawberries and Cigarettes
The wind gently glided across the landscape, carrying the faint sweet smoke away from her lips.
Celaena pushed her purple bangs out of her eyes, taking another breath from her cigarette. The waves on the beach rolled up and down- so hypnotically peaceful it captivated her attention.
“Hey there beautiful, come here often?” the Elf looked around finding Aed’s teasing smirk, “Mind if I sit with you?”
Celaena pat her hand against the sand, happy for her wife’s company, “Sorry for not being around much today.” Smoke floated in front of her face before the wind danced it away, small trails lingering behind.
“I thought you quit?” The dwarf ruffled out her dark curls, eyeing the item in Celaena’s fingers, “I don’t blame you if you picked it back up- been a hell of a week with the crew.”
She shrugged, passing the half burnt cigarette to her, “I don’t do it as often, but it does help my nerves when I need an....extra boost. Shipment’s been taxing on my mental state.”
Aed accepted, taking a soft breath, “... strawberry flavor. How did I know, heh.”
“That does seem to be my signature scent,” Celaena leaned back, closing her eyes and letting her mind drift off. “Aria warned that it would be too much of a giveaway to threats, but she’s always had a stick up her ass about that sort of thing.”
Aed chortled at that, choking on the smoke. Seeing that made Celaena giggle, though she did feel a bit guilty that it was at her wife’s expense.
“Shipment’s wild, I don’t blame you for needing a break,” Aed regained her composure, returning the cigarette. “Wonder if Aria’ll keel over from a heart attack should she keep up the constant worry.”
“She’s not worried, she’s conscious of her environment...you gotta be if you’re an assassin.”
“We should be more...aware, too, if we’re gonna go big with these shipments,” Aed hummed, twirling a ribbon of cloth that tore from her pants.
The elf leaned over, resting her head on the dwarf’s shoulder, “...can we think about that tomorrow? I just....wanna focus on you right now.”
Aed’s eyebrows cocked teasingly, “Oh reaaaally now?”
“Yeah,” Celaena sighed, pressing her body into Aed’s arm.
“Exactly how much do you wanna focus on me?” Aed let her free hand find Celaena’s jaw, tilting her up until their eyes locked. They allowed their heads to come closer until-
The elf’s lips unsurprisingly tasted fruity. Aed deepened the kiss, pushing forward slightly into her wife’s warm embrace. When they finally pulled for air, one thing on their mind.
...
The sun had now set almost completely behind the horizon of the ocean. Aed regained herself then extended a hand, leading Celaena back into the inn for the night.
Come morning, the room was laced with the mild scent of strawberries, smoke still hanging subtly in the air. The wives’ sheets were a mess, limbs naked and tangled in a tight, loving embrace.
They wouldn’t have it any other way.
Koi No Yokan
A/n: I wanted to write about how Aed and Celaena met, and now here we are.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, if the pressure from plate number seven triggers the door opening… let’s make plate number two activate the heavy mist as a deterrent. Maybe sensor 13 should send out a spider? Yeah! Yeah, that sounds-
The loud banging against the laboratory doors snapped Aed’s attention from her work, charcoal stopping mid-stroke on the parchments. Shouting from the other side forced her to go answer it.
“Greetings, Thana!” A courier bearing a High Builder crest on his chest piece bowed his head when she opened, “I’ve come bearing a gift from the latest Builder Conquest; each Architect is getting a spoil of war!”
An exhausted sigh, “Yeah, yeah… set it in the corner, there.” She pointed. Another collection of rare gems and minerals. Might be good for my project… Aed headed back to her desk.
Heavy steps. Grinding of metal on metal. A loud boom as the loot was set down. Aed didn’t catch the muffled whispers of the workers, and frankly? She didn’t care. She was an Architect trying to finish a new design before the Council’s deadline in two months. Simplicity of charcoal scratching against the hard stone and fragile parchment refilled her mind. The courier and his helpers left, closing the door behind them.
“Not even a ‘hello’?”
Aed screamed, flailing her arms about and ultimately falling off the side of her stool. Did someone sneak into her lab? Upon regaining her composure, Aed sat up, eyes glancing about.
It wasn’t a package of new materials… the courier dropped off a damn cage… with someone sitting IN IT.
“I…” the dwarf’s voice escaped her. Who was this person?
She was female, likely of Elven descent considering the pointy ears peaking from her deep purple hair. Her eyes were a soft green, like aventurine. Her skin was a dusty white, almost like the snow on a mountaintop. Her beige tunic was made of rough material- Aed could see the scratches on her skin.
“Done gawking?” She snapped at her, “I’m not your pet, so don’t be getting any ideas.”
It was then that Aed noticed the two piercing sets in the bridge of the elf’s nose. Four small golden spikes rested there. Why? What purpose did they serve?
The elf groaned, crossing her arms and leaning back against the bars. Eyes downcast, lip trembling, sweat beading on her forehead… she was putting up an act to disregard her fear.
Aed shook her head, bringing her thoughts back to the present moment, “I… I’m sorry. I wasn’t expect-”
“Expecting another plaything? Maybe you wanted some inanimate object to bend to your will?” the elf’s face contorted in disgust, “Sorry, sunshine, you’ll find me hard to break.”
Standing up, Aed grabbed a two-inch-thick gold bracelet from the desk. Her legs moved before she realized it, stepping towards the cage. “Give me your wrist.”
“What? No.” The elf scooted away from Aed’s side of the cage.
“Listen,” She took a breath, “It will look suspicious to the Viz and the Council if you’re out of there with no restraint. It will not hurt you.” Fear still controlled her mind, so Aed shrugged, “It’s a bracelet I designed. It’s only got two functions- a hexagonal shield and a nerve stimulant. The shield is for if you ever feel you’re in danger. The stimulant is my way of restricting where you’re able to go in this lab. If you step to or reach for something unauthorized, the stimulant will activate and cause your body to retract into authorized areas.”
“You trade a cage for a cage?”
“Trade cramped iron for a bed. Scratchy clothes for gentle ones. I didn’t ask for a servant and you didn’t ask for this life. I… I just want to free you without drawing trouble for us both.”
Her breathing hitched, pointy ears wiggling as if a debate in her mind was roaring. After what felt like eons of silence, the elf extended her wrist. “It looks like I shoved my fist through a cheese wheel.”
Aed clicked the bracelet and opened the cage’s door, “I wonder what the poor cheese did to anger you.”
She wobbled when she stepped out, as if she hadn’t been able to stand up in weeks. The elf easily towered a foot over Aed’s own height.
“Do you have a name?”
She looked down, staring into Aed’s curious brown eyes, “… Celaena. Celaena Raijin.”
“That’s a beautiful name,” A smile, “I’m Aed Thana.”
-----
As Aed tore her closeted clothes and tailored them to Celaena’s build, a strange feeling swelled in her chest. Love? Adoration? No… nothing like that. She’d just met this woman- how could she love her now?
It was a feeling of belonging. Aed felt a jolt in her soul when Celaena’s hand grazed her body- a surge of longing when her aventurine eyes stared into her muddy brown ones.
Celaena was brought to her, out of all the other Architects, for a reason. The unseen forces of Nirn brought them together, and Aed refused to let her go.
Zu'u fen 'lokaal hi erei fin krein dir
The inn downstairs was filled with drunken singing. Patrons traversing the wood floor, not a care on their minds. Upstairs came to be quieter, barely any noise escaping them.
Save one.
The lantern was on- golden light scattered about the bedroom. Charcoal scratched along the parchment, leaving black markings until the phrase was complete.
Celaena proudly held it up for Aed to see.
“Ta da!” The elf smiled widely, “This is the phrase I want to teach you.”
Aed cocked her head to the side, barely putting the letters together, “This…makes no sense to me.”
“Because it’s in the language of the dragons,” Celaena set the parchment on the table, “Paarthurnax has been teaching me the language during our meditations. I want to teach you this phrase.”
“What does it mean?”
“That’s for me to know and you to find out~.”
“I swear if it’s another curse- “
“It’s not a curse!” She huffed, crossing her arms in a playful pout.
“Kren sosaal.” The dwarf stuck out her tongue, “I at least remember that one.”
Celaena leaned forward and mimicked her wife, “No, YOU go break and bleed.”
“Faaz nah!” Aed lifted her fists in a mocking rage, “Damn you!”
The women both lost themselves in a fit of giggles. They didn’t hear the knock on the door, nor did they hear it open.
“Will you two be quiet?! We’re trying to sleep!” Arissa’s tired voice fell to their ears.
“FAAZ NAH!!” They exclaimed at once, sending them on the floor, rolling with greater laughter.
---------------
A week passed, and Aed managed to correctly pronounce all parts of the phrase Celaena wrote down. After some talk with the Greybeards, the Dragonborn led her wife up the path to Paarthurnax’s dwelling place on the mountain.
“Drem yol lok, Dovahkiin,” Paarthurnax dipped his head, “Back so soon?”
“Pruzah sul!” Celaena copied his head bow, “I’m back to see if I can teach as well as I learn.”
Paarthurnax smiled, “Did you teach your mate another curse- “
“No!” Celaena sighed, blushing, “Well… okay yes BUT I taught her a different phrase to show off today.”
Aed put her hands on her hips and beamed, “Zu'u fen 'lokaal hi erei fin krein dir!”
Paarthurnax paused for a second, seemingly stunned to silence.
The elf’s face went from proud to worried, “D-did I teach it wrong? I-I-I thought it meant- “
“No, Dovahkiin,” the Dragon bent down his head to her, “You taught it perfectly. I was surprised at how well Aed spoke it.”
“I spoke it well, but I still don’t know what it means,” The dwarf huffed and kicked around some snow.
“It’s one of the most endearing love phrases in our language,” His eyes shifted to focus on Aed, “In your tongue, it means ‘I will love you until the sun dies’.”
Aed’s face flushed a cherry red. Her hands rushed to her face in a vain attempt to hide how flustered she was.
Celaena hugged her wife tightly, “I love you too, Aed. Zu'u fen 'lokaal hi erei fin krein dir~.”
“…y-you d-d-dork.” Aed hugged back, hiding her face in her wife’s shoulder.
I made a Dragonborn Oc and gave her a wife this sums them up
