I love characters that haunt the narrative.
laia's hate towards elias beard appreciation post
elias and helene having annual duels to prove who's stronger cracks me up, i adore these absolute menaces.
When Cardan Greenbriar said "Come home and shout at me. Come home and fight with me. Come home and break my heart, if you must. Just come home."
And when Aaron Warner said "To the world, she is formidable. To me? She is the world."
And when Kenji Kishimoto said "Jesus Christ, woman, I look at you like I'm in love with you!”
And when Jacks said "There is nothing of equal value to me."
And when Elias Veturius said "You are my temple. You are my priest. You are my prayer. You are my release."
And when Trystan Arthur Maverine said "She wasn’t light; she was color."
And when Percy Jackson said "You're not getting away from me. Never again."
And when Kai Azer went "Call us even. Call me crazy. I don’t care. Just… Just call me yours."
And when Cyrus of Nara said "She had so much power over him it was terrifying even to examine the way she owned his soul."
And when Roman Kitt said "He didn't want to live in a world without her words."
And when Death/Sylas said "You are what I want. I know I cannot force you to want me in return, but say that you do, and I promise that I am wholly and unequivocally yours. Say that you do, and I will make this world everything for you, Signa."
And when Fate/Aris said"He would spend every minute plucking the stars from the sky to deliver a bouquet of constellations if that’s what it took to please her."
And when Maxon Schreave said "Break my heart. Break it a thousand times if you like. It was only ever yours to break anyway."
And when Prince Wrath said “I always knew you. And always will. Your soul calls to mine. It’s a feeling of coming home. Of peace. No magic can duplicate it.”
And when Prince Envy said "You've destroyed me, Camilla. I want to return the favor."
And when Prince Gluttony said “I have hungered for you in ways you cannot comprehend. I’ve craved you. More than my sin. You haunt me, Adriana.”
“You are an ember in the ashes, Elias Veturius. You will spark and burn, ravage and destroy. You cannot change it. You cannot stop it.” // “You are full, Laia. Full of life and dark and strength and spirit. You are in our dreams. You will burn, for you are an ember in the ashes. That is your destiny.”
—An Ember in the Ashes, Sabaa Tahir
Laia. The funniest part of the first book was her consistently thinking about how cowardly she is while doing the bravest most terrifying things.
don’t know if anyone else has thought about this but I seriously think Reyna Avila Ramirez Arellano from heroes of olympus and Helene Aquilla from an ember in the ashes would be good allies/even friends…
I mean, come on, Helene’s the empress of the martial empire (which is based on Rome), Reyna is/was praetor of camp Jupiter’s Twelfth Legion (a Roman demigod camp) BOTH are leaders and battlefield warrior queens, they also have each watched their best friends (Jason/Elias) fall in love with different people (Laia/Piper) but not only that, they BOTH also held romantic interest towards said best friends too! Talk about shared heartbreak.
In addition to that, their BOTH incredibly fiercely loyal to their homes and people (Helene to the martial empire/close friends/her family motto “loyal to the end” need I say more; and Reyna to New Rome/Camp Jupiter/those she cares about and has sworn to protect), they BOTH are deeply principled and disciplined (with Reyna believing in law, order, and justice and Helene in freedom and resistance to authority), they BOTH have terrible experiences with grief (Reyna with the loss of her father/loss of Jason/abandonment after the events of SoM/; and Helene with the entire loss of her family/friends/and love of her life, Harper) etc. I could go on but you get the idea.
i’m telling you, if you place these two women in front of a fire, then give them some mugs of hot chocolate, they’d have a lot to discuss.
