what's in a name
In all the years I’ve read The Hero and The Crown and The Blue Sword I never really noticed how Luthe is described past the pale blond hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. I’ve always read Hero first and I always pictured him with straight hair and wearing whites and greys. This time reading Blue Sword I noticed his description: Blue Sword: curly hair and bright clothes with tassels
Me: What!! Where’s my personified glass of skim milk looking Luthe?! I also feel a bit sad for Luthe, because I feel like Aerin hasn’t returned to him like she said she would.
Five random things about me
1. I am K+. This doesn't have any health implications for me, but it's somewhat uncommon. I think it's cool because I've always been interested in blood types.
2. I attended elementary school, junior high, and high school in different states.
3. My very first book crush was on Robin McKinley's The Hereo and the Crown and The Blue Sword. Then I think it went Geraldine Harris' Godborn series, then all of Anne McCaffrey's series' pretty much simultaneously
4. I got my cat illicitly when I lived in a pet-free apartment building in college
5. Until I was in 5th grade, I was the only person in my family who hadn't broken a bone. Then over consecutive summers I broke my left wrist, my left wrist again, and then my right wrist.
An entry for comix warriors, taken from page 157 of my copy of The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley, my introduction into the fantasy genre. This was an interesting exercise. The page I fell upon had a lot of emotional baggage in the wake of a traumatic experience for the heroine. I had to consider what I wanted the tone to be, since it could be anywhere from romantic to sad. This affected the color choice. I also challenged myself by using a scene that is all people talking and little action, to see if I could make it interesting. You decide! :) This took WAY TOO LONG, but it was WAY TOO FUN.
