Let’s be real... Cloud doesn’t do well with emotions

However, he doesn’t want you to be sad

He kind of.. awkwardly pats your back and offers to listen to you vent

He’s a really great listener, he doesn’t say much, just nodding every now and then to let you know that he’s still paying attention

After you’re done venting, he offers to do something for you, like buy you a drink or if you wanted to go smash some monsters together (safely, of course! Can’t have you being the one getting squashed)

If you didn’t want to vent, he doesn’t mind sitting in silence for a few minutes, but he’ll get a little restless, or he’s feel a little awkward and eventually wander off to do something else

After you're done eating, she'll sit next to you and try to take your mind off things, holding your hand and giving it a squeeze

She might even offer to walk around with you, even if it's 3AM

If you like cats, she'll point them out as you walk, one of Wedge's babies even stopping by to say hello

If all of that doesn't work, honestly she'll probably put you to work and have you clean the tables at the bar

You'll have fun doing it though, because the jukebox is playing some fun songs and you're both laughing and having a good time

However, she realizes that she needs to take care of you before she can go get payback

She's going to sit you down somewhere safe and quiet, if you're nearby, she'll take you to a place with flowers and grass

She'll take your hands in hers and gently rub small circles with her thumb

Aerith is also a very good listener, if you want to vent, she'll pay very close attention, even getting angry or sad with you

“you should take the bed, you need it more than me!”

“no, if anyone takes the bed, it should be you!”

that's how it had all started.

aerith and you had been paired up in an inn, unaware that the room you had to share didn't have two single sized beds, but instead one double bed.

you were quick to suggest you'd take the floor and aerith could have the bed. but all that ended up in was the two of you both wanting to take the floor and let the other one have the bed. until eventually, you had to agree that the smartest thing to do would be sharing the bed…

“i hope… this isn't too awkward for you.” you mumbled into your pillow, as you practically hugged the edge of the bed.

you really tried to leave aerith as much space as she needed, not even wanting to touch her. you tried to avoid doing anything that could make her uncomfortable, which included touching her or even looking at her!

“n-no, i don't mind…!” aerith assured you. there was a small smile that hushed over her lips, as she buried her face in her own pillow.

sharing a bed with you was kinda exciting for her. to be so close to the person she liked was like a dream come true. if this would end like in a romance novel, she might even get to wake up cuddled against you in the morning.

but for now, aerith tried to hide her excitement…

“i just… hope this won't happen again.” you sighed quietly. “we should be more careful when booking a room next time…”

there was a moment of silence. you could hear aerith shift around next to you, lightly pulling on the blanket in the process. and then, she spoke up:

“is it… really that bad to share a bed with me?”

aerith sounded almost sad. like you had offended her by showing what she perceived to be disappointment or disgust to be so close to her.

“wha– n-no, of course not!”

you quickly assured her, even turning around to face her. only that aerith had inched closer towards you while you weren't looking and was now face to face with you. you could feel her leg brush up against yours and you nervously averted your gaze.

“i– i don't really mind sharing a bed with you. in fact… i suppose i'd rather be with you than anyone else. it's just… i don't want to make you uncomfortable! so i'm trying to stay away from you…”

when you dared to look at aerith again, a small smile covered her lips. when your eyes met, she slowly inched a little closer, until your bodies were pressed against each other.

“i don't want you to stay away from me…” aerith whispered, close enough to you that she was sure you'd hear it.

“o-oh… o-okay…” you whispered dumbfounded, a little overwhelmed by this revelation. but slowly, you wrapped an arm around aerith, hoping she wouldn't see you blushing in the darkness.

“then i suppose… i won't stay away from you anymore…”

you held aerith tightly in your arms, your face nuzzled into the crook of her neck. it felt like an eternity that you got to hold her like this. when she got kidnapped by the turks, you worried that you might never see her again. but now that you got to hold her in your arms again, you swore to never let go!

“this wasn't your fault. they would've find a way somehow. there's nothing you could've done”

aerith spoke softly, trying to reassure you that you weren't at fault. those who had kidnapped her were. but you were blaming yourself more than you should have.

“still…” you sighed, tilting your head a little, to look at aerith. “if anything had happened to you, i would've never been able to forgive myself…”

your hands gently wandered down her sides, caressing every inch of her body. until aerith softly flinched, causing you to pull away, worried that you might've hurt her.

“it's just a bruise”

aerith immediately noticed how worried you got, raising her arm, to show off the bruise she mentioned. it looked like someone had been quite rough with her. but you felt a sense of relief to know it was just a small bruise. at the very least they didn't hurt her too much.

“you didn't deserve this…” you mumbled softly, pressing a gentle kiss onto her bruise. then another. and another. you treated her gently, hoping to kiss away the pain she had.

“if anyone ever lays a hand on you again, i'll–”

aerith cupped your cheeks and gently kissed you, before you could finish your sentence. she didn't want you to make such violent promises. all that mattered to her was that you were together now.

“sorry… i just…” you sighed softly, melting into her touch and gazing up at her. “i just don't understand how anyone could ever hurt you…”

the first time you met aerith you died in her arms.

you had crashed through the roof of the church in the slums, right onto the flower field. aerith held you in her arms, begging you to stay with her. she didn't even know you, yet she couldn't stand seeing you die. she cried bitterly, your death taking a huge toll on her.

and then the next day, you walked through the door of the church, as if nothing had happened. as if aerith hadn't seen you die, hadn't felt how your heart stopped beating and hadn't carried your lifeless body outside to bury you.

“i remember you.”

those were the words you greeted her with. aerith was too stunned to speak, but you seemed well enough to do the talking.

“i must've startled you quite a bit yesterday. i'm sorry for that” you said, as you stepped closer, kneeling down next to flowers. “i hope the flowers are still well…”

aerith was fascinated by you. at first, she feared you too. after all, you had come back from the dead, with death leaving seemingly no lasting effects on you. but as soon as the fear faded, aerith knew that she wanted to learn more about you. she wanted to understand what had happened and why. and she wanted to know the person who wielded the power to come back from the dead.

during the following months, you visited aerith quite a few times in the church. as she tended to the flowers, you told her about your life; your upbringing, your interests and, of course, your ability to come back from the dead.

to you, death was more like sleeping. whenever you had died, you awoke again as soon as the clock hit midnight and a new day began. and the day aerith and you first met hadn't been much different.

as the months passed, aerith's fascination with you faded. and in its place, romantic feelings began to blossom. with each visit to the church, the two of you fell deeper in love with one another. until one day, you shared a romantic kiss within the flower field, that marked the start of your relationship.

only a week later, you died once more. this time, aerith wasn't by your side to witness it. she only found out about your death when you told her about it during your next visit to the church.

“how can you be so calm about this?” aerith had scolded you, with tears in her eyes, as you casually mentioned your last death. “what if you hadn't come back this time? or what if–”

“i'm fine, aerith. i've always been fine. you have nothing to worry about, i promise.”

but aerith had quite a lot to worry about. for one, she worried that you wouldn't come back to her. that perhaps, you had only a few chances to come back from the dead and that you'd eventually run out on those. and then, she'd feel the same way she did that first time you died in her arms; helpless and all alone.

and then there was another worry aerith had. one that wasn't mutually exclusive to the prior one. what if you didn't value your own life? what if that ability to return from the dead was more a curse than a blessing, because it made you forget the value of your own life?

and of course, there was one last thing. if you never died, if you truly were immortal, than you'd outlive everyone around you, including aerith. while she would one day die and return to the lifestream, you'd still be here. and perhaps once aerith would be dead, you'd recognize the value of life. but by then, it would be too late for aerith to witness it…

aerith isn't a jealous person or at the very least never shows it! any instances where jealousy could show up are brushed off by a playful comment and never brought up again

most of your dates with aerith are within the church in the slums, specifically near the flower field within that church!

once she starts to trust you, she takes you there and shows you the flowers! and after a while of dating her, she even allows you to water them in her place and take care of them

aerith prefers quiet dates like these over dates on the upper plate, since she doesn't feel comfortable up there!

which means that most of the times, your gifts for her are things you can only get on the upper plate, as aerith would never go up there and buy those things herself

life in the sector 5 slums wasn't enough for you anymore. aerith knew that one day, you'd want to see the world beyond the place you were born. but she hadn't expected it to happen so soon…

“cruel, terrible people live out there. people who want to hurt you. is it so bad to be away from them?”

aerith had never much liked the upper plate and the other sectors. her life in the sector 5 slums was all she ever wanted. tending the flowers in the church and spending her days with you. what more could she have asked for?

“don't you think there's gotta be at least some good people out there? i'm sure we could find them–!”

you were too optimistic. truthfully, aerith was a cheerful and rather optimistic person herself. but there was no way she could be optimistic about you leaving. after all, what if you'd meet someone else? what if you'd never return to her? what if you'd forget about her altogether…

“there's plenty of good people in your life already.” aerith pouted. “unless, i'm not good enough for you anymore…”

you were a bit startled by that response, yet quickly chuckled when you believed aerith to be joking.

“you're good enough for me, of course you are! maybe you're right… as long as i have you, i don't need to go anywhere else. you're all i need!”

aerith softly smiled at your words. you were right. finally, you seemed to see it too. she was all you needed. whatever else was out there, it didn't matter, as long as you had her.
