Cirrus herself is a wind tiger, a shape-shifting Air-element monster. Here she’s likely making off-screen children giggle. She looks tough -- and is -- but acts like a roughhousing mom to basically anybody under 30.

Great stuff. I love getting commissions in person.
The amazingly generous @l-a-l-o-u ( @lalou-dessine ) volunteered to redraw her character sheet of Tori -- a piece which was already great, if you ask me, but it’s two years old and she felt she could do it better.
And what do you know, she did do it better! I love seeing how artists refine their craft over time, and it’s particularly great to see it through the prism of one of my characters.
@anushbanush drew a great image of Avani! (She likes insects.)

Tori’s brain bobbed in adrenaline soup. Her limbs trembled. She moved to sheathe her knife but felt only the metal on her mostly-bare back. Oh, right. She was in her underwear in a forest at night and a monster just tried to eat her. How about that. She gave a few hoarse laughs but her heart wasn’t in them.
“Tori, your back is bleeding!”
“I’ll bet,” Tori threw her arms up. “I’ll just bet!” They fell back on her with a wet slap, “Now what else is this day throwing at me?!”
Cirrus landed.
Tori braced back on her heel and shifted her knife underhand. Avani hurried in front of her and held out her arms.
“Wait!”
Tori ignored her, staring down her new opponent in spite of her stress-shaking body. “I’m pretty keyed up right now, lady, you really don’t wanna fight me.”
Cirrus hooked her hand on her hip, unintimidated. “You’re right, I don’t. What I want is to tag along and get in good with your god.”
The statement smacked Tori’s brain out of panic mode. She managed a flat “What.”

It took a minute for Tori to stop laughing. Avani tried to suppress joining in but failed after the first few seconds. Cirrus didn’t object, just to hear happy youth.
The party departed in high spirits. The three women each reveled in the new experience of traveling with friends – and indeed of having friends who weren’t also co-workers. For years, they had mistaken regularity for contentment. For months, they hadn’t had a good laugh. Now it seemed that the longer their path stretched, the farther behind they left the pain of the world.
