‘‘ oh, i'm  so  sorry. ’’ the apology came quick, just as quick as elena had been when she had turned around --- only to almost spill her iced tea all over the young man behind her. ‘‘ gods, did i spill anything on you? ’’

she was usually not the type to spill her drinks on others, especially not when they had not done anything to offend her, but when it happened, it was usually near catastrophic. once, she had spilled red wine all over the new white shoes of a colleague at a christmas party. suffice to say, the following months had been hell despite her having replaced the shoes immediately.

           It wasn’t that he was bored or didn’t have work to do. He had lots of it that he probably should be doing instead of disturbing his fiance during his hobby but he felt cold, somewhat needy and in desperate need for his touch. Even if it was just this, him leaving a small purple path along his upper body, even if its just his lips leaving kisses on Valentine, it still left him feeling warmer than before. He smiled the moment the book was sat down, hands pushing under his shirt and towards his shoulders, gripping them gently as he slowly moved up.  ❛ It’s not that, exactly. ❜ He hummed, stopping once he reached the hem of his shirt and clicking his tongue, though he sat higher on his thigh just so he could bury his head in the crook of his neck.  ❛ It would be ridiculous if I said I was jealous. I like it a lot more when you’re holding me instead of a book. ❜

there were the moments when --- sixty years after everything had happened, after he had made his choices and dealt with their outcome --- all air was knocked from his lungs. he had never been big on gardens; they were nice and he did like to lounge on a blanket in elena’s garden while he read one book or a newspaper, but all in all, he was a city kid. he felt more at ease in the place where there was a hectic drumbeat resounding in his ears than he would ever be in a place of quietude. still --- the other’s words reminded him of monet’s garden and no matter how many years went past, he did not think he could ever think of the artist without remembering aline.

he gulped down air, his smile never faltering --- he could breathe around this, he could keep the conversation going. he had practiced for this sort of thing. ‘ ‘ i’m not much for gardens, ’ ’ he told the other, a shrug easily accompanying his best attempts to sound casual about this. ‘ ‘ i’m all for nature, but i like it to have some wilderness to it. but i get what you mean; i sometimes am reminded of how much beauty there is in the . . . common? familiar. ’ ’

---ELEANOR HAD TO  admit, she was more than just a little surprised to see the invitation. she did not know either groom well, though she DID know that they were friends of auburn’s --- not that this said a lot; the older immortal sometimes felt like everyone in this city knew auburn somehow, probably because the other redhead was indeed a social butterfly who made friends ( and enemies ) with the same ease others tied their shoelaces.

still, she smiled as she flipped through her planner towards the date the invitation indicated. parent-teacher-conference, coffee with april, library with her class --- ah, there it was. the 15th of april. a saturday, something that increased the odds that she would be free and not caught up in school business, unless the headmaster would host another meeting at his house ( a meeting that surely serve no other purpose but to show off his cooking skills ). but even if he would go down that path, eleanor was convinced that she could skip one of these meetings.

reaching for her favourite fountain pen and a sheet of the nice paper, eleanor sat down on her desk and briefly contemplated her reply.

dear valentine, dear aurelio,

i will be happy to attend your wedding. i am honoured that you have invited me, and i consulted my schedule and there will, in all likelihood, no obstacles. should this change, i will inform you promptly. in any case, i hope that you will have a wonderful & memorable wedding.

i hope you don’t mind me asking, but did you register for gifts somewhere? i would hate to be the twelfth person to bring a toaster as a gift since no one, not even an immortal, needs that many toasters.

scanning the invitation once more to ensure that she had not somehow overlooked an important detail, she reached into her desk drawer to retrieve an envelope. yes, she did not know that it would be much faster to just do this via email, but despite having taken to modern technology like a fish to water, there were some things that eleanor preferred to do the old-fashioned style, such as replying to wedding invitations.

was auburn surprised? no, she had known that from the moment she had heard about the engagement that it would only be a matter of time until she would receive an invitation to the wedding, and she was pretty sure that she had a fitting outfit for the occasion as well. but this did not necessarily mean that she was  happy  about this. her dismay had little to do with this wedding being scheduled earlier than her own — noel and her had had to reschedule after she had taken one  ( or rather: three bullets )  for fay and had thus been forced to readjust  everything  within her life.

instead, she was not sure whether an  april wedding  was such a wonderful idea to begin with. the weather was bound to be unstable and the chance of being dressed suitably for whatever weather they would have would be slim. and despite her fondness for autumn weather, she did not particularly enjoy the unpredictably april weather was infamous for.

[ actually wraps his arms around his middle from behind, rests his head on his shoulder and STAYS in the embrace for once ]

          Cautiously, he waited a few moments to pass for his lover to rush away again before relaxing into his embrace, a beaming smile blooming on his features and he leaned backwards, one hand tangling itself between blond locks, lips searching for his to steal a few loose kisses from him. He turned in his arms a moment later, both of his wrapped around Valentine’s neck and he leaned his head against his shoulder, humming quietly but happily against his neck.

[ rolls over in bed in the morning, shifting and shuffling until he could press a few kisses down his stomach--- then simply gets up and prepares to make breakfast instead ]

           It couldn’t be a coincidence anymore; it had happened far too many times for him to just think of his actions as anything other than teases. After being pleasantly woken up by his fiance, Valentine rushed off to the kitchen, leaving Leo groggy and yawning, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes with a soft pout on his lips. DID he do something? Or was Valentine genuinely too busy to give him his full attention? He sighed and shuffled of the bed, picking up the still sleeping Mars from the edge off it and made his way towards the kitchen.
