I came across these portraits I took in Afghanistan late last night. They brought a big smile to this face. Embedded as a war photographer in Afghanistan, I would visit with a street photographer on each trip, and have my portrait made with this box camera. The photographer would shoot portraits using a lens mounted to the side of the box, and then develop a paper negative inside the camera itself. As the Afghani government began to demand color photos for passports, these cameras fell from favor. I bought this one from that photographer and had it shipped back to the US, ensuring that he paid him enough to invest in a new digital camera. If my memory serves me correctly I only used the camera once in Afghanistan before shipping it home.
