It boggles my mind people to this day talk about Eddie Gluskin’s mother like she’s responsible for him being a misogynistic killer, when there are zero notes or mentions of a mother being in his life at all. Not ignoring him, not abusing him, not giving him to his father, nothing. Fandom talks like she’s this monster who exists on the periphery—but she is not a real character. She does NOT EXIST. And more than likely, given majority of the other Outlast antagonists only have one parent, she was dead or kept entirely separated from Eddie through other means.

Yes, I do think having an absent mother would make him fill that hole with flawed, fictional representation. The entire theme of Eddie’s character is filling an absence through fiction. But his little song is NOT LITERAL, he had no mother to sing about him making a family. Not a real one. (Warning for talk of Eddie’s backstory and crimes and all that entails.)

And I know the reason why this has happened: it is way easier to talk about a shitty invisible mother than it is about an in-your-face pedophile father and uncle. You know, the people who abused Eddie? Whose abuse is mirrored through the actions of Murkoff (literally filming his suffering, again)? The reason why Eddie keeps talking about wanting children to raise better than his own father did? The fact Eddie is grabbed by a bunch of men and screams rape? That Eddie then hunts down a man who helped to facilitate his abuse, and tries to castrate him, make him “weak and subservient to his whims, just like a woman!!!!!!!!!”

Yeah. I would for sure argue that Eddie’s father and uncle are a bigger influence on his misogynistic worldview and killings more than his mother, who was so unimportant Massive never mentioned her EVER. I would win this argument.

And you wouldn’t even know all of this if you only interacted with the character through fandom, because all the fandom talks about is this evil woman who is just as ficticious as the housewives Eddie idolizes. As if misogyny is always a woman’s fault, something a woman earned and all women are punished with. You might as well blame Gluskin’s misogyny on a witch.

There is a nebulous jordie lives au which lives entirely in my head in which jordie recovers from the plague while Kaz is still sick. He gets up to find them food and water only to return and discover Kaz is nowhere to be found. Still recovering from the fever, he searches the barrel for days before he finally sees Kaz wandering down the staves in a sort of fugue state, soaked to the bone with a haunted look in his eyes.

Kaz won’t tell him what happened, but jordie knows it’s bad because his baby brother flinches every time he touches him, and soon enough he’s started wearing gloves, even in the height of summer.

Soon, they discover kazs gift for cards, and it keeps them fed and clothed, if not much else. Kaz is angry at jordie for losing the money, refuses to let him make any decisions. Jordie is beholden to his angry traumatized little brother because he can’t deny that he failed them the first time around.

Kaz is offered a place in his pick of the gangs, but the only one willing to take both him and his tag along older brother is the dregs. Jordie dies a little bit inside when they join up, when they take the tattoo side by side, but he’s not sure they’ll survive another winter on the streets.

And the plot of SoC generally goes on from there. Jordie tags along on the ice court, he and Jesper test kazs patience at every turn, he’s constantly offering unsolicited annoying older brother advice about Inej.

This lends itself to a really interesting exploration of Kaz and jordies relationship, what holds brothers together in the face of incredible trauma, the skewed power dynamic of Kaz becoming the breadwinner for them both at the age of nine, etc etc. But mostly, this au is a vessel for the sailing of the ultimate crack ship, which is of course, jordie/alys Van Eck.

i've seen ppl talk about hirutaku forcefem on sf and i get the appeal/i tihnk it'd be fun. it'd be dead dove but i mean hiruko already sorta massivelly oversteps boundaries and her bond events give the impression that she would like to knock him up so i see it.

however personally i think hirutaku failed forcefem would be funnier. like her making all these plans and devising a way to get yugamu to do research on how to get men pregnant/do bottom surgery that'll do that and then access said research/remember it across timelines. only to learn like twenty timelines later that takumi is trans and she doesn't need to do all that. bonus for if just like asking him to wear a maid outfit works more than the underhanded attempts.

(you were going to get married.) you throw yourself into your career, you want to help. you see people that need a protector; that can be you. you'll shoulder this burden. you fall in love a second time; you have children with him, you two have a quiet easy marriage. not the sparks of your first love - but contentment. your children are beautiful, your life is beautiful. then divorce; he's not dead - just the version you thought you could have had. imagine falling in love again - a good man that rekindles your hope in a future, rekindles your sense of love and passion. imagine losing the love of your life in a tragic accident: you're older now - it is not any easier this time.
