diamond city was hit or miss for the rogue. synths had a poor reputation, though driving out the ghoul population seemed to be more of a priority as of late. at least with that, connor could make an easy slip through security and track down the pink and red neons signs that lead him to one particular spot.
he held up his hand to knock, holding a moment, before deciding it was better to give the least amount of attention outside and instead, he turned the handle of the door and stepped in slowly.
looking around, it was immediately an office space, then a stairway leading upstairs, every square inch of spared room covers in file cabinets and paperwork.
with no one around in that moment that he could see, he spoke up in a just above average conversational tone. ❝ excuse me? i’m looking for a detective valentine? hello? ❞

“it used to look a lot better than this, you know.” mina shivers and pulls her jacket tighter around thin shoulders, nose scrunching in faint disdain at the useless attempt to ward off the chill. “hell, back then, you used to have to pay insane amounts of money to get a nice beachfront property. now, back then, you also weren’t likely to end up a ghoul going for a swim and the worst thing coming out of the water was a fish, so you can understand the price bump.”
there’s a quick flash of a smile, faint but determined, and she leans against the ship’s rail with a quick sigh. “something tells me property values have, uh, declined since then.” fingers drum absently against the rusted banister, mina glancing over curiously. “ever been up here before, nick? you deserve a little vacation from the wealth’.”

Margo had already lost her patience. Honestly, being taken hostage wasn't something she had planned on dealing with. It didn't help that the raider who's arm was around her neck wasn't grasping that she was travelling alone. Bullshit, he insisted, claiming no one was stupid enough to do that, not in that area, especially not some scrawny girl. He kept demanding to know where her companions were, screaming about how if they didn't come out he was going to blow her head off. His forearm pressing against her throat was irritating her, brows furrowing and nose wrinkling.
It was just as she was getting ready to attempt her escape, that a man in a trench coat, a man who obviously wasn't human, stepped out from behind a bus, a gun of his own raised. Oh, well that was interesting.
"Ha, I knew it! You're lucky I'm so patient, or your little friend here would be dead on the ground asshole. Now hand over your gun and your caps before I kill her!" The raider screamed, making Margo lean her head away, grimacing. He was obnoxious. Cocking a brow at the stranger, she looked at him as if to say 'What's the plan?' If he could distract the guy well enough, then Margo could easily get away from him.
❝ well look who it is. what brings ya to my neck’a the woods, nicky-boy ? ❞ a lit cigarette rests carefully between his index and middle finger, other decayed hand raising to scratch his chin. thin lips spread into a faint smirk as john moves away from the wall he was holding up to move closer to the synth. ❝ ‘nother case ? ❞ / @againsthedark

“ you kidding me? ” she tugged the handkerchief down from her face and grinned. “ those guards are dumb as shit. as long as i’ve got on that handkerchief and a big pair of sunglasses, they don’t know me from a smoothskin with a bad sunburn. i know how to handle ‘em by now. ”
