Bucky is Jewish but hasn't done anything-being kosher, celebrating any of the holidays, etc- since the war started

It’s a dangerous time to be openly Jewish, even if Bucky wasn’t questioning his beliefs. And to be honest, he starts questioning things more than a little bit, after he start witnessing the horrors of war, even before his time as a POW.

Reclaiming his cultural and religious identity is a huge part of reclaiming his identity as Bucky Barnes after he starts shaking off the Winter Soldier.

In the second book one character’s narration tells of him having a crush on a guy, in the third there are hints of someone being bi, and in the last one there is a canon queer relationship
