Have had a looming deadline I’ve had to tend to so I hadn’t had much of a chance for fun art until now-- new piece for @sonic-oc-showdown‘s latest round of polls.
It’s very funny thinking about these two meeting. Byte doesn’t like grumpy people-- but V’s face just looks like that. No matter how excited, eager, or fascinated he is, his face is a permanent 😠
V’s particular skillsets lie in biology, organic chemistry, and genetics, and he can take something, break it down, and use it to induce mutation in subjects (including himself!). It’s a very funny niche to fill in a series packed to the brim with roboticists. Maybe whatever the amorphous organ belonged to spat acid.
Anyway V is being very genuine here. Nothing could get him more stoked than cutting up some kind of monster spleen. Who knows what he’s gonna learn!

V's telling her about how he turned Storm into a mobian from a regular earth cat, probably. Or how he turned Iridia into a mobian. One of these has more truth to them than the other.
He would be absolutely tickled by the idea that Matilda is just a regular ant who got fed chaos drives. It's not exactly how he works but he appreciates the situation more than he'd let on.

Matilda is wonderful. V is very seriously listening to her aspirations of beating Knuckles. he's also probably hoping she doesn't know he can throw a tank across a football field bc the last time he did that people got mad (and made him pay for the damage).
i had something a LOT more ambitious i was working on but i don't think i'm going to finish it On Time so i'm going to make it my wrap-up drawing instead! but i had to draw something cute w these two while the latest @sonic-oc-showdown poll was running.

Been casually working on refreshing my references for 2024. Here's all three variants of V's, with some minor anatomy and detail tweaks.
One of the big reasons I wanted to do this was that the measurements on the background template I was using were uneven, meaning that a lot of characters were ending up taller or shorter than they should be on my personal height charts-- so this is the right ratio now. This probably bothered nobody but me. However since I spent so much time on it here's a zipfile with some high-res blank templates inside just in case anyone else would like to use it for their own refs.
Anyway enjoy my weird genderfluid lizard. This is the year I write that damn story, I swear.

So uh fun story. When I did the rough sketch for this, the poll on @sonic-oc-showdown had 5-6 hours left, I needed to go to bed, and Deirdre was gaining votes fast-- I expected her to win! So this was intended to be a celebratory cup of cocoa for her.
I decided to finish it up anyway bc it’s kind of a nice scene. I don’t know how well they’d actually get along, but V is the kinda person who will spontaneously do ridiculous things like take a stranger to try the best cocoa he’s ever heard of just because he found out they liked it.
Deirdre belongs to @sublimenol, and I think she’s really cool. I’ve enjoyed getting the chance to draw her for the showdown!
