I’m so glad this book is so many people’s favorites??? POA was always my absolute favorite in the world.
I’ve had a few friends over the years who don’t love it like I do--something with it being a wimpy plot because Voldemort isn’t really in it??--but that never made sense to me because
well, to me, PoA is the core of the Potter spirit. Sure, everything hinges on GoF when shit goes down and the stakes go up--that I get. But in so many other sense, PoA is really what these books are all about: friendship and relationships and LITERALLY FIGHTING DARKNESS WITH JOY AND LOVE whether it’s fighting fear (boggarts) with laughter or unending sadness (dementors) with love, like.
this book means so much to me. i’m gonna stop before i start running wild about the characters because the freaking marauders, man

it comes from knowing that any day could be the day that i accidentally run into harry styles at a coffee shop and spill my drink all over him and have to invite him back to my place to use the laundry machine and then while he’s distracted with the wash i swaddle him in a blanket and don’t let him leave until he’s gotten a good 8 hours of sleep and eaten a well-rounded breakfast

I love it! It’s one of my current faves. I’m always delighted by well done teen comics (see also: Young Avengers, Lumberjanes, Ms Marvel, etc). Gotham Academy taps into that and also my love for Bat books that aren’t about Batman. My favorite Bat stories are always ones about other Gotham City characters reacting to Batman. Add to the mix that Gotham Academy is about boarding school hijinks and yeah, I can’t say enough good things about this.
The main character Olive Silverlock is a scholarship student whose mother is locked away in Arkham Asylum and something happened over summer break that Olive can’t remember. She also has some crazy super powers we’re only just learning about. She’s friends with a younger student everyone calls Maps. And I like how Olive’s contentious friendship with Penelope -- a surly girl who grudgingly accepts Olive -- is evolving.
The latest issue introduced Damian Wayne into the story so I’m even more excited to see where this goes. Damian is my favorite Robin, and he’s SPYING on Olive for Bruce (oooooooo)
Also, there’s been some brief critique (in the form of Olive shouting at Batman) on how Batman handles mentally ill “criminals.” I hope the series features more of that in the future because lord knows the Batverse could use a bit. The fact that Olive’s mother is (as far as we know right now) severely mentally ill and locked away for it strikes a chord with me.
Shallow side note: the artist draws Bruce really pretty. Like “induces fits of fangirl giggling” pretty. I will be disappointed if no one gives Damian shit about his HOT DAD.

i can't decide if gansey has to die because he literally IS glendower, body and soul, or if he has to die to wake glendower but glendower has a separate body. it seems more likely that he is body-and-soul glendower, though. I DON'T KNOW I'M NOT READY
