i've yapped about this book far and wide but I picked up The Rachel Incident casually and read it in one day. it was funny and real and tightly structured, and none of the "big reveals" ever played out exactly how i expected

the execution of the karaoke set honestly isn’t great imo but i learned a little bit of premiere to make the bouncing heads and i guess that’s worth something!! also i think it’s funny

this kim/jesse parallel was i think?? my first time blending, and the kim scene isn’t super well lt (it’s also a lot shorter and trying to stop it from looking janky with so few frames to work with was a PAIN)

1. must start with the obvious “i’m gonna kill you you stupid bitch”

2. coming in hot at number 2 is beating up that guy in the bathroom with the paper towel dispenser (yes this is pandering but also it rocks)

3. when she fucked off for a whole day at the movies with her bestie 

4. it takes a lot of girl power to get your tooth ripped out of your mouth and not scream (this is actually number 1 but i’m too lazy to reorder)

G: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

start to finish all the way, baby!! i’m too scared to write out of order because i worry i’ll never go back and fill in the gaps, especially if i’m skipping ahead to write something super exciting. i like to use the exciting stuff to motivate me to get through the less exciting stuff. 

i’ll do little vomited scene notes out of order/as they come to me, but for the proper written prose i never really skip ahead. 

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

oh boy. i think guilty pleasure in writing is when i just go hog wild with description and metaphor and stuff. there’s been a couple of times (like the jimmy comparing kim to ice thing, or jimmy driving into nebraska) where i remember gleefully throwing it all onto the screen with the thought that i’d delete most of it later for being too obnoxious ahah. and then i don’t delete it 😂

reading? just give me all the cheesiest tropes man. i want some fake married. gimme that hurt/comfort. i eat it up

top 5 meals you've eaten in cities that are not new york

1. I visited a friend in madrid while I was studying abroad, and her host mom who freelanced as a psychic made us paella 

2. one of my favorite cafes in sitka had daily special paninis on homemade focaccia the size of the plate. on sundays the fishermen would sit on the porch and play their fiddles.

3. there was this hole-in-the-wall bbq smokehouse in north carolina that had served the cast of the fugitive while they were filming the train crash. picture me 8 years old blissed out on pulled pork sandwich and hush puppies beneath a menu autographed by tommy lee jones

4. chicken parm in the north end in boston

5. this one burrito I got in san francisco, jet lagged after impulsively flying across the country

Some Sickly Michaelis AUs - @danascullyrps

Because I have several streams of inspiration right now. Gifs not mine.

- Michaelis is traveling and falls ill, collapsing unconscious by the road. Lucia finds him and nurses him back to health. This can go two ways - one where he ends up too weak to leave because whatever he had has left him quite weakened, and one where he heals and leaves because he’s needed at home, only to see Lucia again at a ball because this is the man she’s…idk, they’re supposed to be or do something that’s for sure.

- WWI or WWII AU where Dom is shipped off and Michaelis stays home because he didn’t meet a requirement for the draft or something (maybe he already has asthma or has a bad leg or something, idk). However, Michaelis’ correspondence to Dom stops mysteriously a few months before Dom returns home. When he does, he finds Michaelis propped up in bed, pale as a ghost, clearly unwell.

Michaelis eventually turns to look at him and, upon seeing him, whispers, “Is it time?” “No.” Dom swallows. “I’m here. I’m home.” Michaelis looks (even more so than before) like he’s about to cry. “You’re real?” Dom nods. “I’m real.”

And Michaelis starts to have trouble breathing because he’s trying really hard not to cry and Dom has to call in the nurse (who he’d already run into on her way out of the room before) and she helps him be able to breathe again. I don’t know what Michaelis has, but it would be super sad if it was tuberculosis because then no cure.

- Hospital AU where Lucia is a doctor and Michaelis ends up as one of her patients. This could also work with Dom as the doctor instead.

I just…had inspo because I was scrolling through your blog and so naturally saw some super old stuff and yeah. Doctors and then your list of AUs for the babes. Even if we aren’t doing most of those anymore (or at least right now) I feel like they still deserve attention because I like them.

Also these gifs definitely don’t completely match but oh well.
