"Keep the campfires burning, Jones... Wherever and whenever you go."

3, 10, and 18 - submitted by @agent-jones
a very specific torchwood ask game (that i am answering very late)
3- favourite season and why?
season two, without a doubt. the writing is more coherent than season one. the team are all far more fleshed out as characters. there’s multiple ongoing arcs that are woven throughout. we get owen’s death arc, which is incredible, we see more janto as they come together into a real relationship. we get the team struggling without jack in the beginning, we have the backstories that fragments gives us. there’s a definite more found-family feel, a better understanding of each other, and a clearer view of torchwood as a whole. we know the team by now, instead of the weird off-and-on slow/disjointed development we get in s1. and we have guest appearances by martha fucking jones and john hart, so what’s not to love? also everyone is just…exceptionally pretty in season two, and my bi heart wants what it wants.
10- favourite ship outside the main three (not jack/ianto, tosh/owen, or gwen/rhys)?
oh i may get murdered for this, but i love gwen and owen together. i have to preface this with the disclaimer that yes, cheating is wrong, the arc went nowhere and rhys deserved so much better, and the retcon bit was shit writing and should not have happened. but outside of the circumstances of their cheating, i really ship them together. owen tempers gwen’s naiveté at the beginning, and she brings a new light to what is his usually pessimistic outlook. their joking and banter is so easy and fun, they’re clearly attracted to each other, and i love the way she goes to him. it’s more than sex, it’s a grounding force. she needs someone who understands, and he opens up and shows a softer side in order to help her through it. yes, it ended badly, and yes, it was wrong in that she was with rhys and they both knew it. but i think there was something very genuine there that, played out in other circumstances, could have been very good for them both.
and that scene in his flat at the end of countrycide was hot, you can’t deny that.
18- best platonic relationship?
i’d say it was obvious if i didn’t have two i absolutely adore. the first, clearly, being gwen and ianto. i love their friendship, i love their banter and jokes. i adore the scenes in adam and in kiss kiss, bang bang where they’re bantering and teasing and gossiping. i’ll never be over the moment in countrycide where she holds him in the cannibals’ den. the way she adjusts his tie constantly. the way she does that even after his death. her well-intentioned pushing him to answer about his sexuality and how he knows that snapping at her won’t put her off anything but bugging him in that moment. there’s a really fascinating character arc that happens from her completely ignoring him at the beginning (he was trying to fade into the background, so that was working for him) to the point that in her retcon-fueled panic note to herself she doesn’t even mention him, to the sudden reveal of his backstory and intentions in cyberwoman, to their growing camaraderie in the ongoing seasons. the way they banter in outbreak is a picture-perfect snapshot of their friendship and love and the way they tease each other. obviously i could talk about their friendship forever, but you know better than i do how much i adore them.
and then! and then. there’s jack and tosh. the man who swooped in at the worst moment of this terrified woman’s existence like a guardian angel, who really saw her and recognized her brilliance, who saved her from literally a lifetime of abuse and imprisonment. she’s the first to question him (how many times does he have to tell her “just do it!”), but the first to dive in headfirst to a situation she doesn’t know for him. she runs to him first when he resurrects at the end of end of days, the way she leaps into his arms and he simply holds her has a special place in my heart. she’s the first to forgive him in kkbb, and the way she questions his judgement calls in combat and argues with him in sleeper gives a really clear look into the way she trusts him enough to do that, especially when she’s regularly as non-confrontational as that.
and then obviously, the moment in exit wounds when he’s holding her as she dies, and she looks at him one last time like he put the stars in the sky.
also, an honorable mention for andy and owen, but tbh i can’t see that as strictly platonic.
I didn’t actually read any of the numbers so this will be fun.
Gwen, Ianto, Owen 15
WAIT DONT POST THAT LAST ONE I DIDNT SEE HOW MANY NUMBERS THERE WERE
Gwen, Ianto, Owen 6
3 names + a # ask game !
Go clothes shopping with:
Gwen! As much as Tosh is theoretically the one with the fashion sense, I dress more like Gwen anyway. Plus it’d be fun and we’d have a gay old time :)
Go to Ikea with:
I’d say Ianto, but I feel like it’s not really his scene. Owen, however -- Owen would not be a fan. And I’d drag him along on my weekly Ikea wander to soothe my soul all the same.
Go grocery shopping with:
Ianto, obviously. I feel like if I did it’d be in the process of learning to cook something, which I think would be fun, and he’d probably judge me for what I eat regularly, but also he’s dating Jack, so...he’s used to it.
👀
end of year WIP meme !
“Actually--” Gwen steps forward, reaching a hand out to stop him, “I’ll go.”
There’s a palpable hesitation in the air as Owen pauses, eyeing her. They all know that Ianto harbors a particular dislike for the man whose face she now wears, but she can only hope he’ll put it aside for the moment. “I want to talk to him,” she reiterates. She simply wants to talk to someone who is, usually, a grounding force in her life. There’s another moment of hesitation, before Owen nods, stepping out of her way.
“Do you want me to come with?” Rhys asks, and she turns back to him with a soft smile, though she’s unsure how such an expression translates on this face.
“No, it’ll only be a few moments, I promise, lovely.”
There is doubt on his face, but he nods, stepping back to allow her to go, and her expression flashes a grateful tone before she goes to descend the stairs. There’s a momentary fumble at it, but she manages, quickly disappearing up through the doorway and into the pathway that leads up to the office.
When she opens the door, Ianto is alone, sorting pamphlets behind the desk as she exits from the main area of the Hub.
“Ianto?”
There’s a visible wariness to his gaze as he turns to her, a little too quickly, far more on his guard than he would have been under normal circumstances. In fact, she can imagine that had she looked and sounded like herself, he wouldn’t have even looked up. “...Gwen.” She can’t blame the way his gaze trails over her for a long moment, before brilliantly blue eyes flick up to meet her gaze once more. “How are you?”
“I’m trapped in the body of the most aggravating man I know, so I’ll have to say today’s one for the record books,” she returns. Instinct would have her stepping towards him, perching on the desk and swinging her legs as they spoke. Caution keeps her where she is, standing awkwardly by the hidden stone doorway. Her hands seems too useless at her sides, so she shoves them deep into the pockets of Rhys’ leather jacket.
“Yep, can’t imagine it’s pleasant.” He returns to sorting the pamphlets, and she shifts around the desk as casually as she can, opting to seat herself on the opposite side. He glances up, briefly, before going back to his job. “I’ll bet Rhys is a bit wary?”
You also get a deleted scene, this one from I Know Not Everybody (Has a Body Like You), in which Gwen went to speak to Ianto rather than Rhys. I’m sure I’ll write something like this awkward interaction later, but I have to say I prefer the version that led to Rhys & Ianto’s Excellent Drug Run.
To me, 0, because I watch you cry at every show we watch, but I’m sure a lot of people find you to be 8/10 intimidating
on a scale of 1 to 10, how intimidating am i ?
correct. i’m always down to cry.
I’m just testing an ask thing because I saw one that was so long that it seemed like the character limit may either have been lengthened or doesn’t exist anymore and so I’m just going to ramble in here until I feel like it’s longer than what the old asks would let us write. Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth a new nation...damn that’s all I remember off the top of my head. I had to memorize the Gettysburg Address in 5th grade because we had this Great American thing where if you memorized a bunch of shit about American history then you got idk a plaque or a nice pen or something. I also had to memorize a bunch of Nevada history in 4th grade to be a Great Nevadan. That one was harder than the US one. Anyway did you know that Ianto Jones....I can’t actually think of any new headcanons off the top of my head but like he’s amazing and I love him and that’s all really. At TW1 he was invited to all the parties and he wasn’t really used to that?? He didn’t go to a lot of parties as a teen but the people at TW1 really liked him and wanted to hang out with him and so of course he would go and at first would probably just kind of be a wallflower and would nurse like one beer all night [ he was probably alcohol shy thanks to his father ] and eventually people would kind of just migrate to him and have casual conversations around him hoping that he would engage. Everyone knew he was something special because of his position with Yvonne that he got so early on in his time at TW1 and I think he was kind of the coworker that everyone had a tiny crush on and everyone else knew it except for him. Anyway this is way more than 500 characters now so I’m just gonna hit send and see what happens goodbye
The way you just devolved into rambling about Ianto is very on point, 10/10, good job.
bitch you’re thirsty af too
what’s my reputation?
