It was a morning like any other for Dr. Robotnik. Or almost.
As he paced the long Pentagon hallway to his secret lab, the doctor thought about his new invention and what hadn't worked the day before. He was trying to figure out what had escaped him. But as he was about to take the stairs to the lower part of the building, he collided with something, or rather someone, at the shrill cry he heard.
- But it's not right, you could not be careful !? Exclaimed the female voice from the shadow he had jostled. Robotnik gave her a contemptuous look. Who did she think she was?
- Pay attention to ? You saw me, you could have stepped aside! He exclaimed visibly upset by the remark. The young woman got up by retrieving a file from the ground. She obviously didn't seem to agree with what he was saying.
- Should I be careful? It was you who pushed me around! Did you forget your brain this morning?
- For that, it would be necessary to already have one, Miss, and that is obviously not your case!
The thought that he could get his brain out of his head and put it in a drawer momentarily crossed his mind. Who did she think she was that crybaby? He squinted at the map hanging from her black jacket pocket… (Y / L)… Strange, his memory was infallible, he couldn't remember ever seeing that name somewhere. Either way, he would tell Walter about this girl's incredible incompetence, and quickly. And he would make sure he never had to do with her.
When he was finally able to reach his lab, Where Evil Grows had kicked in as soon as he stepped through the doorway and his pace calmed him down. He was at home, with his music, and this annoyance was a distant memory. With a dancing step, carried along by his favorite song, he ignored the absence that hovered like a shadow over him.
He stroked each of his babies first. Its drones, so proudly lined up next to each other, its pride, its success, its power. Then he grabbed the still steaming cup of his favorite latte. Ah, that dear Agent Stone. He had always been very punctual in serving him his delicious Austrian goat milk coffee. It was the same ritual every morning, and if he was unfortunate enough to be a minute late, he didn't hesitate to tell him and his day was shattered.
He was about to bring it to his lips, when he saw fit to recount his morning mishap.
- Agents these days are even worse than you, Agent Stone! He started in a thunderous voice, thinking he was being listened to in the next room. Imagine that one of her jostled me this morning. Jostled! And not a word of apology, nothing! While she was responsible.
Of course, everyone must have known that we were stepping aside in front of Doctor Robotnik.
It was then that he finally decided to drink from that cup.
An indescribable expression then read on his face as he spit out the sip he had just swallowed. The taste was infamous, bitter and devoid of sugar. Wiping his mustache, the doctor had accounts to ask Agent Stone.
- STONE WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO WITH MY LATTE? He cried. And he was waiting for an answer.
Who did not come.
- STONE?
Again, silence. Did everyone decide to tell him hellish life today? Even him ? His most loyal agent?
It was too much, and as he grabbed the goblet of latte to swallow his ugly drink, he rushed into the office annexed to his to do battle with his assistant.
And he let go of the cup, noting that it was empty.
Stone was not there.
- Stone? he asked.
No answer. Where could his assistant be hiding? Usually he was always there first, brewing her coffee, getting her office ready and going back to work. It is true that he had asked her to be more discreet, but at this point.
He walked around the office, to no avail. He then leaned under it to make sure he hadn't been hiding, but there was no Agent Stone there either.
It was then that he understood.
His assistant had simply disappeared.
He had turned the desk all over the place, had even been checked inside the hangar and in the truck. Nothing nobody.
Storming up the stairs, he bumped into one or the other agent and didn't even bother to knock on General Walter's door when he tumbled into the meeting.
- Doctor! I am…
- Where's Agent Stone?
The staff gave each other a sorry look. Of course, one of them could have come to Walter's aid, but they all preferred to slip away and let him explain it. They wouldn't pay anything to wait.
Without waiting for any invitation from his superior, Robotnik took his place in the seat in front of him. Stone was no longer there and he would leave this place once it was returned to him.
- Doctor, Agent Stone is currently on sick leave.
Silence.
- What ?
- Well, Agent Stone is not feeling very well.
- A cold, nothing more, what keeps him from coming and making my latte.
- Well, in truth, it would be more like a Burn Out.
The doctor stared at his boss
- A what ?
- Well, that's what happens to people with a lot of work.
-I have a lot of work and I am doing very well.
- And who undergoes a lot ... Let's say, pressure.
Silence again, he thought about what Walter had just said.
- Yes, which most certainly could have happened if he had been in the service of these incompetents! It is enough to see how some go about their mission and ...
- Doctor. Agent Stone is not here because you have exhausted him.
He did notice that Walter pressed a button next to his desk as he took in the news. He shrugs his shoulders.
"So, are you telling me that I tired Agent Stone?" Whatever ! Walter, where is he? My latte was awful and no one had dusted my drones since yesterday and ...
- As I know that your workload is painful doctor, know that I have found a replacement for you.
- A what ? He grimaces, trouble was about to begin.
The figure that appeared behind Walter almost knocked him off his chair.
- Doctor, this is Agent Y / N
- Is this a joke ?
He stared at her so hard it felt like she had gone under an x-ray. That foolish girl was the one who had run over him earlier!
- I refuse to work for this rude character.
Walter laughed, pretending he hadn't heard anything.
- Don't be choosy, you two. Really. Miss Y / N… He breathed softly. I'm afraid that by having finished your internship the way you did, you will have no choice but to accept.
She gave him a nasty look, which instantly returned him.
- I don't want to end up like Agent Stone
- Do you mean it's my fault?
This agreement is definitely not going to be possible.
- Robotnik, Agent Y / N will almost make you forget about Stone! It makes excellent coffee, did you enjoy this morning's.
- Even your cat's piss must be better, Walter! He yelled. Without waiting for anything else, he left, slamming the door. Desperate, he rushed to his lab and grabbed his phone, shaking his hand dialing Agent Stone's number.
He's not answering… he thought. He must be in the bathroom. No, even in the bathroom Stone has to answer me.
He tries again, again, again.
Answering machine.
- I'm afraid your dear Agent Stone doesn't really want to talk to you.
He huffed loudly as he turned to the voice that had given him those words. There she was, leaning on the doorframe, her arms crossed, staring at him contentedly.
He already hated her.
- Go back and sort your papers in a dingy office! He exclaims, trying to reach Stone again. It was a nightmare, he was going to wake up and Stone would sponge his forehead with a cold towel while whispering relaxing words at him.
- It turns out, dear doctor! That my shabby office is now Agent Stone's! Then began the young woman. No, but what rudeness! And that I don't intend to end up like Agent Stone!
His eyes widened. Was she responding to her own boss.
- By the way, if you want my opinion, Doctor, the next one to burn out is you!
Without even giving him a chance to answer, she slammed the door again and began to whistle. Hell, even a hoarse canary hissed better than her.
He bit his nails in annoyance. Already that one announced to him the absence of Stone, to put this character girl on the back to him, no! There was no way an incompetent would enter his service.
And damn it, his lattes are absolutely disgusting!
So this time, he was determined to make Walter and everyone else understand that we weren't putting just anyone in the service of Doctor Robotnik.
