IM SO GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE OBSESSED WITH TIME TRAVEL OBILEIA BC AHHHHHHHHHHH (pls share any thoughts you have about LITERALLT anything for them I would be thrilled)
(also, this is from a while ago, but I kinda love the name “Death Star Drop In” for that au lmao)
oooo okay so something I think might be really fun to explore with them is the way they approach sacrifice in war—specifically sacrifice of other people, since we all know they're both totally cool with offering up their own lives for a cause (and have been since, like, age eight. (yikes))
Leia is, first and foremost, a pragmatist. She can't afford not to be—she's been fighting a losing war since she was thirteen. I can't imagine Bail and Breha didn't try to shield her from some of the realities, but I also can't imagine they would obscure the seriousness of their situation from her. She can't treat it as a game, can't make careless mistakes. If she messes up, she dies, her parents die, and Alderaan gains a new dictator. Sometimes she has to let people die. Sometimes she has to send people to their deaths. And she knows that, she accepts it, the same way she accepts that the people she's sending to their deaths trust her with their lives.
That's not to say she's not possessed of enormous compassion—but she's measured in it. She knows when to care, when to shut off that side of herself, and—most importantly—she knows when she's going too far. Leia has had a front-row seat to the damage "the greater good" can cause for the galaxy at large, and she knows exactly what justifications sound like, even if she's the one saying them.
