ADOPTION IS NOT A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE FOR ABORTION
At any given time (as of 2012), 400,000 children are in non-permanent families. Out of that number, about 23,000 age out of the fostercare system never having been adopted. On average about 7000 children are adopted each year. Let that sink in. 400,000 children in fostercare and only 7000 have found their way to permanent families. Now, to be fair, just because a kid is in fostercare does not mean that they are eligible for adoption. But the ones that age out, you know the 23,000+ kids that aged out most likely were. 7000 isn't even close to 23,000 let alone 400,000.
20% of kids who age out will be instantly homeless. I was one of those kids.
7 out 10 girls in fostercare become pregnant. Out of those teen mothers, half of those babies will also go into foster care.
Do not tell me that adoption is always a valid option. If it were, then it would be cheaper. If it were, then more money and resources would be put towards helping to find or form more permanent families.
IF THIS POST MADE YOU FEEL ANYTHING, OR IF YOU LEARNED SOME THING, PLEASE SHARE IT. MOST PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW THESE NUMBERS. MOST PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENNING TO AMERICAN CHILDREN. EDUCATE THEM.
Yours truly,
A foster kid who aged out.

If you are a foster kid or some one who aged out, please tell your story. Do not let the masses pity you. Demand their attention and respect and teach them about this broken system. The abuse and neglect starts with your parents and continues in foster care. Do not let them believe that forcing an unwanting mother to have a child is a viable alternative to abortion.
