dear diary
April 2020
Dear Diary,
I’ve obviously seen the Scamanders around school, and even talked to Lorcan several times since we’re in the same house. But Lysander’s a bit more intimidating, I suppose. For starters, he’s a Slytherin, and I haven’t made many friends in that house yet. Someone tried to tell me that it’s because my dad was in Dumbledore’s Army, but that’s absolutely ridiculous! They’re not their parents, they wouldn’t have a grudge against me for that, would they?
I think it’s much more likely that I’m just quiet and people think I’m a bit odd, so they haven’t seen much reason to reach out. But that so wasn’t the point I was trying to make, I was talking about how Lysander seems to be more of the charmer, who’s interested in impressing girls and being popular and playing Quidditch and pranks and things like that... things I definitely don’t relate to!
Only the other day while I was bored on Easter holiday, I was doing some research on the Goldstein family tree, because we were talking about genealogies in History of Magic and I got curious -- and it turns out we’re related to the Scamanders! Very distantly, of course, but Porpentina Goldstein married Newt Scamander back in the day, which means there’s at least some sort of tie between us now. And Lysander seems so fascinating, and maybe if I tell him that we’re related we’ll have something to talk about and I’ll find out that he’s actually just as sweet as Lorcan is.
I think I’m going to do it. Oh Merlin, I hope I don’t embarrass myself! And that he doesn’t think I have a crush on him, that would be so embarrassing, and people already think I have one on Louis because I think he’s cute, which is so not true, and just -- wish me luck, Diary! I’m going to go before I can keep rambling and write something that might seem incriminating later.
xoxo,
Becca
