The most shocking thing about Virgil is how late he began his training. Most supers with power of this magnitude start training well before puberty - and most who take longer don’t make it to adulthood. Powers like these are flashy and easily noticed, and in our modern interconnected world, parents almost always know why their child is suddenly flying or able to lift the kitchen cabinet. Virgil attributes his good fortune to his family - they might not have known about the existence of HEARTS, but they did know how to give continuous emotional support and love. And that meant he had the stability needed to avoid frequent erratic episodes for most of his childhood and young adolescence. 

Virgil has been the most active super in Harmony City’s reform period. He demurs when questioned about it, but his partners have made it clear that he was the founder and primary financier of the newly-created Haven Foster Home. HEARTS continues to operate, but more and more is becoming a junior high/high school to Haven’s elementary school and daycare for children with super powers. Families have been requesting nonresident student status for their children. Luckily, many of these families are more than willing to pay for their child’s enrollment, giving the home a steady stream of income in addition to the state subsidies that help it run.

Virgil’s moms have gone from having one adult child with powers to five directly adopted and approximately 50 students. Not all Haven residents have powers, nor do all the nonresident students. Many families are choosing Haven to keep siblings together through as much of the traditional schooling years as possible, particularly in the rare instances of twins where one has powers and the other does not. We’re hopeful that this trend will continue, as the information gap between supers and civilians shrinks by the year, and with it, the chance for violence through misunderstanding. 

Appearance notes: tall, muscular, and very well built. Half-black, half-white, but white-passing light brown skin and dyed purple hair that’s usually straightened out of its naturally wavy state. Dark brown eyes, very full lips.

Logan has been brilliant since his childhood. It is believed (by him and others) that his super speed extends to the rate at which he is able to absorb, process, and distill new information. In the past, he was known for his very strict black-and-white view of the world, particularly regarding supers and morality as a whole. This changed largely due to his parents’ involvement in Project Charcoal, coupled with his introduction and familiarity (and later relationship) with the members of Team Right Brain. 

He has recently resumed his research in addition to serving as an active super. Building on his doctoral thesis and some buried results produced by the other Drs. Lancaster, he is researching ways that supers (particularly young supers) can use the properties of power-dampeners and -enhancers to modulate the force of their powers for training, as well as for mental health applications.

While he shied away from the public eye in the immediate wake of his parents’ trial, he [and his partners] have been slowly taking on more prominent roles in awareness campaigns around young supers or those with newly-acquired powers, aimed at supporting the supers and their loved ones.

Appearance notes: Built like a sprinter - on the shorter side, stocky with thick thighs. Pale skin, light brown hair, grey eyes. Wears black, thick-rimmed glasses when he’s in civilian clothes.

Roman is a primary example of the need for a place like Haven Foster Home, because before it, there was no equivalent of the public school system for supers. There was also no structure in place to accommodate those impacted by losing loved ones and family members in super attacks. Roman was, like most citizens, able to collect from the disaster/insurance fund the city maintains for cases like his, but unfortunately, the money was given to his grandfather as next of kin. Due to the nature of their relationship, Roman had no access to that money once he left his grandfather’s home.

With Dr. Picani’s help, Roman has finally been able to explain to his partners and adoptive moms that his grandfather was emotionally and physically abusive, apparently taking out all his feelings about his daughter’s life and death on her son. He is also part of a small contingent of citizens who see those with super powers only as forces of chaos and disruption, and blamed Roman, as part of the larger group of supers, for the actions of all of them, including the Fang Patrol. The escalation of physical abuse was what led to Roman leaving to live alone on the streets rather than in his grand-père’s home. 

Since Haven opened, Roman has taken a back seat as an active hero. He still remains on-call for any and all events in Sycamore Heights, but his main focus has been a teacher, mentor, and big brother to the children in Haven’s care. He also works with City Hall on outreach initiatives and publicity, making sure that citizens from all walks of life know about the resources available to them. There has been some tension still with convincing him not to casually shoplift from corporate-owned stores, but the resolution was found in emphasizing local businesses rather than just trying to convince him to stop. Quote from his partner Virgil, “You know how they tell you to pick your battles? Roman is the human embodiment of the meme ‘no, that’s too many, put one back.’ So we do our best.”

Appearance notes: Since moving in with his partners, Roman’s finally eating well and regularly, while also fighting less. He’s still very muscular, but the definition is much softer for the first time in his life because of the fat he’s been able to retain, which he’s delighted about. He’s mixed Haitian and French Canadian, and so appears to be either very darkly-tanned at all times or as a very light-skinned Caribbean black man. He has auburn hair that sometimes gets redder from using his power a lot in a short period of time.

Another fascinating case, one that still lacks a full explanation. We’re not sure if this is a case of a dissociation disorder (in the form of DID or dissociative fugues), a power with a mind of its own (which would be hitherto unheard of), or just a case of woman running an elaborate con on us all.

Our note in the Index is accurate as far as we are able to establish. Ghost/Nebula (CN: Lulu Ador) appears to be two separate personalities and sets of powers within one body. But, she has not (Cannot? Will not?) confirmed if she is, in fact, unaware of the actions and decisions of one while the other is in ‘control.’

From inquiries conducted by our fact-finding team, her powers’ origins are unknown but first emerged at the same time as first reports of ‘dissociative episodes.’ There is no discernible pattern for predicting whether Ghost or Nebula will be present on any given day (or at any given hour). Those closest to her who might be able to speak in more detail have also remained elusively vague. [Editor’s note: this lack of detail persists even after an extensive survey of other DREAM registrants from all classifications, including but not limited to: The Queen, Rosethorn, The Prophet [... list condensed for brevity]].

What we do know is that she is quite brilliant, both academically and practically. She holds dual doctorate degrees from the University of Harmony City in astrophysics and literature, and has a respected career as “one of the best writers in [the astrophysics] field” entirely apart from her involvement as a super. It is rumored that she is also a successfully-published author of intricately-crafted fantasy novels, but under a pen name that is as yet unconfirmed.

Making these achievements all the more impressive is that Lulu is diagnosed with fibromyalgia and in ongoing treatment. One topic of inquiry into her power has been trying to ascertain if both Ghost and Nebula have fibro symptoms. Both powers would offer some manner of amelioration - Ghost is able to travel distances with minimal effort, and Nebula’s star sprites are able to support her and even carry her when needed.

When it comes to morals, there appears to be clear divide between Ghost and Nebula, which is the primary source of confusion regarding these personalities’ true nature. Nebula has assisted in several high-stakes battles defending the city against villains, but is less available for calls involving nonviolent crime. Ghost has engaged in many cases of vandalism and assisted nonviolent criminals and villains (including, most notably and frequently, Lovely Darling)

Another achievement: after getting to know S.E.A.M. Talyn Stokes through HEARTS and the DREAM registration process, Dr. Ador worked with the city government to overhaul the benefits given to heroes registered with HATCH. Previously, there had been a small stipend given based on number of calls responded to, and medical coverage for on-the-job injuries. Under the new system, there’s a full salary tied to level of accessibility (with on-call being highest and blackout-only lowest) and full medical coverage of any preexisting conditions as well as ‘professional’ injuries. Through the process of redoing this system, she ended up becoming the city’s primary consultant on chronic illness as it relates to public health and healthcare. She and SEAM Stokes remain good friends.

Costume was inspired by Logan’s dress in Promenade but now it’s comfier! It has a hood and also pockets. Who wouldn’t want that? (I may be projecting. It’s my AU, shh). Also inspired by SpiderGwen’s iconic leggings + ballet slippers look in Spiderverse.

Blynk (CN: McKenzie Bleu) is the daughter of another Golden Age superhero. Her mum was part of Forces of Nature with Professor Polarity (CN: Portia Price). Where Prof Polarity has powers of magnetism/electromagnetism, DI#265353 was able to manipulate the pull of gravity on herself and others.

Because of her parentage, young McKenzie was watched carefully for signs of an enhanced ability. While it’s not guaranteed that a child of super(s) will have powers, it does make it more likely than when no known family member has powers (an anomaly). For several years, they thought perhaps the only genetic differentiation was the fact that McKenzie was born with naturally teal hair. Because of the family name, her nickname became Bleu-berry.

The family, including her, thought the only oddity was a penchant for sleep-walking. She would wake up in the living room, or in the garden, though everyone would swear she’d gone to sleep in her bed. She was known to have problems with sleeping already. [[a/n: squinty-eyes at you, Blink my dear]] Since no one observed the movement, no one was just aware that she was blynking out until she woke up a mile away in her school’s art room.

Her power is finicky. When it’s possible to exert full control over destination, the range is very limited. However, she cannot travel long distances consciously, even if she knows the destination very well. The only times she can travel further than her 100-yard range is when the blynks happen outside of conscious decisions, caused by emotional spikes, and she gets sent to an unintended location.

Once, McKenzie was sketching passers-by on the waterfront, not far from a point where she could jump back to HEARTS. She was surprised by Lovely Darling (CN: Danielle Disney) sitting next to her and complimenting her art profusely. She was so flustered, she blynked out on the spot, and found herself on top of a skyscraper about a mile away. Panicked and not wanting to try to jump again until she was calm, she was stuck on the building for an unforeseeable amount of time. Luckily, Reflex (CN: Virgil Skylar) happened to be flying by that area. He gave her a lift back to school, and stayed with her until she was calmer. (He also complimented her art, joking that he promised to find her again if she got lost). Because of the difference in their ages, they didn’t share any classes despite attending HEARTS at the same time, but they remained good friends even after Virgil graduated.

She was not supposed to be involved in the AW fight. Students are never on HATCH calls except for particularly extreme circumstances, and even then they must be at a certain level of training to be put on Blackout. She just happened to be across the harbor when the attack came. Luckily, due to her durability, she sustained no lasting injuries. Unfortunately, The Contortionist’s attacks targeted her wrists and legs. She was hospitalized for recovery, but she was unable to draw for several months, and she considered this much more of a disruption than her immobility.
