Later, guys!
I'm on my way back to Sarasota and the lovely New College of Florida! I foresee a long day of moving in and sunburn, so don't expect much communication from me today.
Peace~

agirlbuzzlightyear replied to your post: my sister is arriving tomorrow to stay with us for a week
aggghhh I wish you luck with that mess.
ahhhh it'll be grand. <3 I've recovered enough of my chutzpah recently that is people get out of line with these things, I'm going to let them know. like I said to whispersincursive, I'm just trying to see the funny side of it (for the sake of my own -remaining - sanity!)
last time she was here, she sidled up beside me while I was eating my breakfast one morning, smoothed out a clipping from some newspaper about the omega 3 nonsense, and started "I saw this article in the paper, so I thought I'd bring it over-"
"thanks sis."
and I left it at that. she made a few attempts to lecture about the wonders of omega 3 (we already eat oily fish like salmon a few times a week) but I just ignored her. ignorance is bliss in this case.
agirlbuzzlightyear replied to your post: I’ve always had an interest in photography -...
If it means anything, I think the camera is a good motivation idea. But then again, I’m not your dad! My parents are able to do the same thing. Dark magic…
THANK YOU. He does this all the time. If I said hey dad, I'm going sky diving tomorrow!!! - *shrug**smirk* "it's your money/life."
Every time some part of my brain starts shouting IT'S A TRAP but it's too late, I always fall for it. It's Jedi mind tricks.
In response to the many social justice 'tards I've encountered on tumblr, especially the one I saw today:
Are you people really so miserable that you have to find something offensive in every little fucking thing you see? Even the things that give out positive messages?
Because that's really fucking pathetic. I mean seriously, that's one of the lowest levels of pathetic I've ever seen. This is coming from someone who's seen some screwed up shit in real life and on the internet.
whispersincursive replied to your post: Facebook and Twitter make me loathe humanity,...
I completely relate. After I got out of treatment, I made a new facebook and have ignored a lot of requests from old ‘friends.’ It’s not much easier or more fun with less friends, though…
yeah, what I'd really love would be to abandon the whole thing all together. it's just gotten to the point where it's become too easy to just contact people via Facebook, so nobody seems to use email or just phone each any more.
even if I narrowed it down to family and close friends, I probably still wouldn't be entirely honest and open. "Had a panic attack and locked myself in toilet cubicle for three hours today, woo! :)" doesn't exactly make for catchy status fodder!
agirlbuzzlightyear replied to your post: and you know I bitch about facebook like that, but...
cosigned. everyone on facebook thinks I’m happy happy happy. ahahaha no.
oh god, tell me about it. even people who are aware of the fact I'm ill think things are fine and dandy.
"hey, it's been ____ months, are you feeling better yet?!" "yeah as soon as I stop wanting to beat myself over the head with a mallet, I'll be back in class!!!"
agirlbuzzlightyear replied to your post: omgomgomg first thing my grandfather said to me...
I’ve been dating my boyfriend for 4 years and I can’t imagine being married right now… ack. you are not alone.
oy vey, tell me about it. I can barely look after myself, never mind another tiny (poop-y) human being. and don't get me started on babies lololol
apparently your brain doesn't stop developing until you're 25, so I'm just going to travel and continue doing stupid shit to learn from until my late twenties. then I'll find Michael Palin and I'll be happy enough to tie the knot heh heh heh.
bpdisthebossofme replied to your post: I got my grandma to look at my scalp and she says...
i have some small bald patches from picking my scalp. they are healed but the hair hasn’t grown back yet. :(
agirlbuzzlightyear answered your question: bald patches?
if you’re concerned you can also get biotin shampoo or take biotin supplements (but ask your doc before you take new vitamins, always)
I've developed bald patches before, and the hair's grown back before... it seems to take a while though. I think I'm going to try this German caffeine shampoo that's supposed to stimulate your hair follicles - at least maybe once or twice a week. it's worth a try, anyway! I'll have a look for biotin shampoo. :)
Can you explain the bracts and what looks like small grass in the epiphitic (tank) bromeliads? I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what's going on with that after going to a greenhouse today. Thank you!
I will try my best! If for some reason I don't answer your question just let me know and I'll try to answer it again. When bromeliads flower, they form an inflorescence (which is basically a stem that holds the flowers). The actual flowers of bromeliads are usually very small when compared to the whole inflorescence. The bracts are what attach the flower, to the inflorescence. Look at the purple flower farthest to the right in the picture below, the purple part is a flower petal, and right at the base of the petal is the floral bract, the reddish part. The purple leaf under that is the scape bract.
Now as for the small grass it depends on where it's forming. Some bromeliads produce "grass pups," which are literally small pups that look like grass - alcantarea's and vriesea's tend to do this. But those are usually at the base of the plant, or sometimes in the lower leaf axils. Hope that helps! The plant pictured is Tillandsia 'Red Fountain'.
