Before taking in Hinata, had Deku given any sort of thought into getting a pet of his own? Or did he look at his life and personality and conclude that either he or his pet would have issues cohabiting?
Izuku likes having a pet in theory, but in practice he just has. Zero experience with animals. He grew up in public housing in a limited funds household so he and Inko never kept any pets, and Katsuki never had any growing up either, so he never really got that familiarity in passing.
Watching Kouda just kind of confirms that there's a lot of work that goes into keeping any kind of animal that he never even thought of, so now he's anxious about ways he could accidentally neglect something that loves him
