Summary: So this is the last one of the mini series! I can’t believe that it took me that long to write this but at least I did it! Everything is inspired by End Up Here which I wrote a preference about back in 2014 so I sincerely hope you enjoy this very much :-)

#61 End Up Here - 5 Seconds Of Summer
Michael yawned tiredly into his long sleeved black shirt, feeling how every single limb in his body needed a stretch. He loved chemistry he really did but there was something about doing it in the morning at eight A-M that made him wish that he could go all the way back to the soft white sheets in his single bed.
He wasn’t supposed to be so tired but after stumbling across the new episode of Games of Thrones he couldn’t get himself to sleep despite his mother Karen claiming that it was over ten P.M late at night.
It gave a bit if a challenge but it wasn’t the first time Michael had been secret about breaking his usual eight hours of sleep. Hiding under his sheets while having the phone right in front of his face was enough to convince his mother that he was far away in sleep when she would check in on him just to be sure.
It had always been like this with Michael. Being the straight A+ student but always having trouble with his sleep. He wouldn’t point it out as insomnia but he did in fact struggle with putting himself to bed. Whether it was now with new episodes of Game of Thrones or earlier in his life where he would spend majority of his time in the old local website called Habbo he couldn’t call out.
But besides that, he was always organizing. The rather well sharped pencil was resting in front of him almost desperate and waiting to be used to take notes, Michael was sure it could cut right through Ashton’s bicep if he tried.
He also had prepared a clean page for the futuristic notes that were supposed to be printed into it. He was starting to lose track of all his notes because he hadn’t decided to buy a notepad for each book, meaning that he would have it all in one place with stickers hanging out. It could get kind of confusing trying to find his pages for chemistry when English was all over the place with Shakespeare and the Great War.
It wasn’t like he didn’t have the time to scan the papers through and make some better organization. It was like when his mom claimed that he needed to clean his room. Everything was organized on the floor, it was a mess, but organized mess!
His mom also always tried to give him a hobby. Not that she didn’t think he should use most of his time on his homework and assignments because she sure did. But she also wanted to activate him sometimes, getting him away from the computer unless he was reading about the lacrimal in the eye.
He was in fact a very lazy person but he always took his homework serious. He preferred to sit in front of it with a cup of warm tea next to him instead of fooling around on a football field and hurt himself. He never understood the meaning behind that and sometimes when Calum would tell him about it the question sign would be visible in his forehead.
Sports had never really been his thing to be honest. He always had an excuse in P.E as to why he didn’t bring his gym clothes or why he was suddenly having stomach ache. It had come to the point where Coach Hanson didn’t even care anymore and allowed him to sit on the blue chairs around the football field without explanation and watching the rest of the class do the actual workout.
His thoughts drifted away when Mrs. Travis came into the classroom full of energy but also her clothes drained and her hair all wet. He hadn’t realized that it had started raining outside but when checking was quite a sight.
Normally they weren’t used to this weather, something Sydney didn’t glorify with the typical sun and hotness.
But Michael enjoyed this. He enjoyed the dark clouds and heavy rain, not only because he could use hours just on studying which type of cloud it was but also because he found it cozy. Sitting in front of his computer while playing games, but most importantly also having a book in his hand.
Today was different though. He wasn’t the slightest fond of the weather because it would only make him more tired than he already was, he had to catch himself yawning every once in a while.
He didn’t find Mrs. Travis boring, sometimes she just had the tendency to behave like they were a year eight class instead of Juniors.
It wasn’t a shock though, so many jocks were in his class Michael sometimes just wanted to skip even if he didn’t have the balls to do it.
“Good morning everyone.” Mrs. Travis smiled brightly despite being so wet, using her shirt to dry her long mousy colored hair and adjusted the glasses on her nose.
“I hope you’ve all read for today because we’re starting a new chemistry project. I’ve made a small bowl with girl names and I’d like all boys to pick one. Please don’t cheat and take one my random choice, there’s a reason why I’m doing this.”
It was like panic spread through Michael’s body that he didn’t have control of. He wasn’t scared who he was partnered up with, it was just by the sound of being with a girl.
He wouldn’t point himself out as a chicken but every time he was near a girl he would usually blush. Most of the cheerleaders had already scared him away for being extremely unintelligent and mobbing but when it came to others there was definitely a few in his class he knew he wouldn’t be able to hold the concentration with.
“No groaning!” Mrs. Travis was quick to scold when noticing some of the jocks sitting next to Michael groaned loudly by the announcement. “This is important for your future exams so see this as a benefit and getting the chance to get to know the opposite gender better!”
He didn’t think much of it when the bowl was in front of him, he just wished that it wouldn’t be someone as the stupid cheerleader Nicola. She was horrible, he had heard from Luke that she was a true ostrich.
“Y/N?”
It wasn’t supposed to come out as shocked as it did, and he wasn’t supposed to say it out loud but he couldn’t control it. The name was blurted out from his pink lips while his eyes were ready to pop out, looking at the paper intensely as if he didn’t believe it.
“What?” Sebastian was quick to comment beside him, his eyes matching Michael’s by the name he had said aloud.
He looked over at Sebastian unsure of what to do, he couldn’t believe that he had actually picked out her name. She was always sitting there in the back row of the class with a finger pointed in the air, the only girl that seemed to have some sort of intelligence.
“Dude fucking switch!” Sebastian reached out to try take the note from him and with his lack of attitude and still scared from the fight they had previously had at the hallway a few weeks back he didn’t have the courage to say no.
“I don’t think so.” Y/N pushed past Sebastian to stand in front of Michael instead, scolding over her shoulder to give him a glare.
“Go partner up with Gretchen I’m sure she’s excited that you managed to pick her.” She baffled her eyelashes just to be extra annoying, watching how Sebastian tightened his lips together and turned around in pure frustration.
Michael almost didn’t know what to say, or he did but the way the words came out of his mouth felt like dry sandpaper. She gave Sebastian another glare before grabbing a chair below the table and took a seat, placing her notes on top of the desk right next to his.
“Hey handsome.” She greeted and giggled when she noticed the blush spreading on his cheeks just by the presence of her and the small nickname she had created for him wasn’t making the situation any better.
“Ready to partner up for science?”
Hell Michael almost wanted to scream in pure blessing by her question but nervously nodded his head in agreement and swallowed deeply.
He definitely couldn’t speak now especially not by the way she was staring at him so beautifully.
Michael had never actually believed in love but with her everything seemed to be different. She had absolutely everything he looked for in a girl. Beauty, talkative, a bit if attitude but also such intelligence he sometimes swore she was smarter than him.
She was everything he wasn’t and that was what he liked about her the most. The way she would always have a smile on her face when meeting up for even boring classes like these amazed him. He didn’t understand that someone could be in such a great mood all the time but it was a benefit because it made him secretly smile even if he was many meters apart from her.
She was that type of girl where you even as a boy wished to be her. She wasn’t in the stupid cheerleading squad but a part of the journalist school news-paper and also took majors in more languages that he could count to. It had always been a weakness of his but with her the puzzles seemed to collect easily.
Always when she was around her he didn’t know what to do with himself. Sometimes it was just an awkward giggle because she was pretty like, really fucking pretty but he didn’t want to say that out loud and neither did he want to curse.
He sometimes had to take himself and pinch his arm when he was dreaming about her in the middle of class. Normally he was 100% focused on what was going on on the blackboard but once his eyes would drift towards her it all seemed to faint away.
She took his mind off with a split second, he couldn’t understand it. Never had he felt like this towards another person before than the girl he had hung out with in kindergarten but that was before schools were divided into whom you were as a person.
Sometimes he just sincerely wished that he could walk straight up to her and have a talk. But so many things could go wrong at first and he didn’t like risking those chances.
He could easily embarrass himself and that was one of the things he feared the most. That he would fall over his long legs on the way over to her or that he would instantly blush and not being able to say anything. He was also so insanely afraid that she would think he was weird and walk away.
But when he thought about it again, she was never the one to kill the conversation. She always smiled when they shared the eye contact and once in a while when walking past each other on the hallway she would greet him with the exact same words.
“Hey handsome.”
It was two words and contained only four vowels but it was still magical that made his feet tickle and his stomach erupt with butterflies. They could make his day ten times better if it had been horrible, not even the boys could make him this happy like she did.
There was something special about her that drifted him closer and closer as possible he had even created an Instagram account just to so he could see more beautiful pictures of hers. He didn’t have the guts to send her a friend request on Facebook and with Instagram it was much easier to stalk without letting her know.
Though he clearly remembered the time where he had accidentally liked a pictures from so many weeks ago he didn’t even get the chance to see how old it was because one his finger had liked it he threw the phone onto his sheets and almost wanted to groan out loud in frustration.
But that definitely wasn’t the most embarrassing thing Michael had experienced when it came to Y/N.
-------- Macey’s Party, October Junior Year --------
Never in his life had he felt like this before. The world was spinning to the point of not being able to compare it to a roller coaster and his eyes were so read Michael almost couldn’t believe. Never had he felt like this before but there was no return back or regret ticket for this.
Drinking from Luke’s parents’ bar was most probably the worst thing he could have done tonight. He had never drunk anything before and starting out with shots on his first night was probably the biggest regret this night.
He had no idea where the hell he was but the only thing was on his mind that he needed water. It would be the only way that he could go back to being sober but also the only thing that seemed to be on his mind because he was so dry from the tequila he swore it was worse than when talking with girls.
He most probably looked like a mess but he didn’t care. He was slurping loudly and almost licking onto the head of the sink but the water was so cold and such bliss to him he continued to drink.
“Oh my god is he okay?”
Michael’s eyes widened by the recognition of the voice but with his slow reaction and not being able to function properly in his mind he barely got the chance to hear Calum reply to her. He didn’t even get the chance to say that he actually had met her before.
“I think I need to throw up or something.” He moaned deeply and took himself to his stomach, feeling that sensation he usually felt when he was seriously ill.
He was quick to nod his head when she offered her help to lead her to the toilet, Calum saying something again but his ears had shut down by staring down at her with a blush coming to his cheeks both in embarrassment and from the heat.
“You’re really pretty, god.” He commented down at her once she swung an arm around his waist and his over her shoulder to stabilize, a giggle coming from her in respond.
“Thank you very much.” She led him towards the toilets by the entrance of the villa, feeling how he played with her hair during the action but she didn’t care already preparing for a drunken tall guy to be lead to somewhere more private.
It was as if he had forgotten everything for a second once he came out to the toilet with such bright light the nausea was right back in his stomach and mouth. He tried to act at least a little bit casual but once he started gulping and throwing up he knew that chance was lost.
“I’m so sorry this is so embarrassing.” He moaned against the porcelain, forehead burning against the cold surface and prepared himself for yet another wave of puke.
“I usually don’t drink so this is very new for me.”
“I can tell.” She giggled again, not to embarrass him any further because he could tell that she actually felt sorry for him.
She was standing in front of the sink with a glass of something he couldn’t tell and neither did he want to know and slowly watched her replace it with water. She had also grabbed few tissues from the toilet roll and leaned down on her knees to sit right next to him, her soft fingers going through his blond locks.
“You really shouldn’t have been drinking that much. I mean, you’re quite tall and that but you still seem light-weight as fuck.” She leaned over to dry his mouth with the tissues and gave him the water unsure if he wanted something or wanted to puke again.
“Thank you.” He sincerely admitted and took a cold sip, happy to get rid of the otherwise horrible taste.
“I know I shouldn’t have been drinking that much. It totally went out of hand.”
She nodded her head in understanding while smiling, watching him take a few more sips until he had drowned the cup completely and fell back with his forehead forced against the porcelain. She looked down at him a little bit curious, their eye contact seeming to be something that triggered her mind.
“You’re the detention guy aren’t you?” She suddenly questioned and cocked her head.
“Yeah that’s uh-, that’s me.” He mumbled unsure and leaned up to flush, the smell from below was gagging and if he was supposed to have a conversation he would at least try to avoid puking.
“First and last time probably.”
She giggled again by his words and leaned her knees up to her chin so she could lean down on it. She had such a cute giggle he almost wanted to call her pretty again but by his sudden misery he almost felt as if 60% of his drunken state had been taken away and replaced with his awkward self.
“What did you do? What did you text Sebastian?” He had to ask and he saw how her face expression changed completely.
“I just told him to back off and leave you alone. Nobody should ever feel threatened on the hallway and Sebastian sure as hell is good at that. He hasn’t confronted you or anything since then right?” She fiddled down with her shoe as she was speaking, looking up at him to make sure he would confirm.
“No, uhm-, since then he hasn’t spoken a word to me. I to be honest don’t know how you did that but I’d like to thank you because he always picks on me for no reason. I don’t know what happened that day but suddenly it all snapped for me.”
“It’s okay.” She nodded her head in agreement, “If I could too I would confront Sebastian with violence if I could but all he would do was to laugh at me. At least he understands when I confront him through words. It’s as if I have him wrapped around my finger.”
“That’s no surprise.” Michael commented fast without realizing, the drunk self still having power in his conversation and his eyes widening.
“Sorry?” She questioned confused and cocked her head again, leaning it against the sink right next to the toilet.
“I mean it’s just…” Michael paused again in confusion, not really knowing how to safe this again but when he thought about it what could go wrong. No matter what he said it would probably be an embarrassment and now that he had already puked in front of her nothing could get worse.
“It’s just that you’re very pretty.”
Her face expression changed again but into a happy one from before. She was the one to blush this time, looking down at her feet and bit down on her lip in reaction. He almost wanted to say it again just to see her do it one more time.
“Thank you Michael. You’re very sweet even though you’re so quiet.” She complimented and removed a bit of drool from his lips that he had created from zoning out.
“I know… This is probably the only time you’ll see me be this talkative. On Monday I will go back into my shell and the only words you will hear from me will be when I raise my hand in class to say something intelligent.”
She nodded her head in understanding and sighed softly by his words as if she was trying to come up with some sort of plan or idea, her mouth making a small sound in thought.
“Maybe you should get more drunk then. I love how outgoing you are right now guys don’t usually call me pretty without having some sort of mission behind it.” She said and laughed quietly by her words.
But she was quick to regret it when Michael suddenly frowned, his eyebrows furrowing and his stomach twisting by the mention of alcohol. It was as if all his senses went back to the previous stage and before he knew it he was hovering over the toilet again to empty to rest possible bit there was in the pit of his stomach.
Y/N’s eyes widened in surprise and she quickly sat on her knees to carefully caress his back to show a bit of support, her other hand reaching up to turn the water on and get him another glass.
“Okay handsome maybe not alcohol. We’ll see whatever we can do.” She commented and waited for him to finish so he could get another glass of water, most probably not the last one of his as of tonight.
From that exact moment Michael had both become ten times shyer than he already was when he was around Y/N but he also never touched or smelled a bottle of tequila again. Just the thought of him made him nausea so he always tried to brush it off when he was able to.
He still couldn’t believe it when he got home that he was actually partnered up with her for science.
When he came home from that day it was the only thing he could think about. Every time he did something it would remind him of her even if it had nothing related to it. He would sit there and secretly smile making his mother nervous because he usually didn’t just to that out of the random.
He was glad because now he actually had something he could speak about. He wasn’t going to be nervous over speaking about science because it was actually something he was good at. It gave him at least a little bit more confidence he was already lacking.
That night he had cheered over Skype when he talked with the other guys over a play of League Of Legends. Or more likely just Calum and Luke playing, Ashton being the more confused one who sat on his chair and watched the others play live.
“Wait so the girl we met at the party was actually someone you knew! Way to go Clifford I didn’t think you were able to talk with the opposite gender.” Calum commented into his headset completely impressed.
“I’m sure the only thing Michael is able to say towards a girl is aghfjgdgdjgf.” Ashton interrupted and afterwards made grunt noises and giggles just to tease his best friend a little bit more, Michael sighing deeply.
“I’m just gonna stay cool okay we will be working with this project for a few weeks. I think it’s gonna be a good way to try practices my social skills so thank you very much Ashton.” He said directly towards the curly haired lad and pressed aggressively on his computer mouse, “I think I’m just gonna imagine that it’s you I’m speaking with. That usually goes well.”
“Or you can just imagine that she’ naked. Isn’t that what you say when you’re supposed to present in front of someone?” Luke questioned dumb-folded, clearly too caught up in their game to even focus on the conversation fully.
Fits of laughter came from the other ends of the headphones and Michael could feel the blush ready to spread on his cheeks again. He didn’t know how to respond to that because the worst part of it all was that the thought had crossed his mind before.
“I’m sure Michael has done that with Y/N before.” Calum sneakily commented, the tone of his voice spoiling that he was smirking and teasing Michael, laughing loudly when he heard a loud groan come from the victim of his conversation.
Michael almost wanted to smack his head against the keyboard.
There’s no doubt that he saw Y/N in many ways. With her beauty it was hard for her to glance away even for just a short moment. He liked the way she spoke and the way her eyes would lit up when she would randomly tell him something during their project days.
At first he didn’t believe that he would manage to go through it without stumbling across their old awkward encounter.
He didn’t want to talk about it but she was also good a situation awareness and only stuck to the nickname she had created for him. Once in a while she would just smile at him out of nowhere but he never really knew what was going on in her head.
“Michael do you understand this? I followed everything in the formula but it still seems as if I have done something wrong.”
Michael’s head lifted up by the question, eyebrows furrowing and his lips parting. He hadn’t said much during the class, in fact he had been awfully quiet. It had been a while since he had felt like this but when he started out the day by being shoved into lockers by Sebastian it was ready to ruin the rest of the day.
“Let me see.” He leaned over to look down at her paper to scan it, it didn’t take him that long to see her mistake.
“You have written 3 instead of 8. I assume it’s only a typo.” His finger pointed down at the notebook to express his words by showing, reaching out to take the glass with number eight instead of number three.
“Oh.” Was the only thing she let out and eyebrows furrowing trying to scan her weirdly written notes, she definitely had a prettier hand writing than him but it was still in such a mess Michael couldn’t really tell what was what in the huge mess.
She giggled softly by her mistake and thanked him sincerely, this could have easily gone wrong if she mixed the wrong formulas together. They had both agreed to do a chemical project and with a wrong step in the process they could easily end up doing something dangerous.
“Thank you Michael.” She leaned over to get her eraser, changing the number so it would be the correct one again.
“You’re very welcome.” He softly said and focused back on the math example he had been working on since they started the period. It had a huge impact on their project and if he didn’t finish it before the period would be over he would have to spend time after school doing this.
She smiled by his warm words and focused back on the glasses, she clearly thought this was exciting because otherwise she wouldn’t have put such effort into making it her best possible.
Michael knew that his suggestion was a bit of a mouthful, she was intelligent afterwards but when he thought about it the project fit better for college. He had read ahead unlike everyone else and she seemed a bit confused when he suggested it but being the enthusiastic girl she was she took the challenge.
It was mostly him doing the work only based on the fact that he had a book about everything. He could tell that she didn’t like being the one not knowing what to do but every time she sat herself for doing something she would need his help.
But that also meant he was sure what was going on and that they would get the right grade. He always hated being paired up in groups when unless it was someone that he was close to and knew that their grade would be spotless and perfect.
And also he couldn’t stop laughing when Y/N would need his help. The way she would constantly yell out for him made him feel really appreciated, he almost believed that she just did it out of fun now just to get his attention.
“You know I’m just gonna go to the toilet. I’m getting a bit dizzy from all these chemicals.” She announced and pushed her tall chair back to leave, smiling over her shoulder just to make sure that he had heard her.
“That’s fine.” He mumbled more to himself than her, focusing back and chewed on the end of his glasses. He never liked wearing them but recently he had grown more into it. Y/N seemed to like them, she admitted that she also wore some when she was reading on the TV or in books.
“Gretchen seriously come on! This is gonna take all day if you have to check everything for the third time.” Sebastian mocked from the other side of the table, the only thing separating him and Michael being the ventilation system that was placed on every table for experiences.
If it wasn’t for the fact that it was covering his face Michael wouldn’t have rolled his eyes in reaction. How had he come so lucky to share a table with him, it was as if everything couldn’t go any worse. He hated him to guts and hear him rush around with Gretchen as if she was nothing else to him that an A+ made him want to crumble the papers in front of him.
Gretchen was what he could point out as the girl version of him. She never liked being in the way of everything and could so easily be fooled you wouldn’t have believed she was one of the few girls at the school with the best grades.
She adored Sebastian there was no doubt, she wasn’t the only one at this school but the way she was being treated was out of order. There was no doubt that she was doing all the work and not being able to say the slightest no, in a fear of seeming suddenly unattractive or something.
“I just want everything to be perfect.” Gretchen murmured with eyes focused on the test tube in front of her, her eyes seeming much bigger by the glasses she was wearing.
“I know but for the love of god this is totally tiring me up.” Sebastian moaned and ran a hand through his dark hair, a pencil swirled around his finger.
“Maybe if you actually did something for the project she wouldn’t have to rush around and double check everything when she’s all by herself.” Michael was supposed to say it as a mumble to himself but Sebastian easily caught up with him and furrowed his eyebrows.
“What did you say?” He questioned and Michael looked down at his notebook as if he had never said anything, his shoulders shaking in nervousness and tried to avoid his eyes.
Sebastian’s eyebrows lifted as if he was set up for a challenge when Michael decided to stand up from his seat and leave without a following word, deciding that he should occupy himself by talking to Luke or something instead of staying.
Gretchen still had too much focus to say anything or focus on what had just happened, her glasses almost resting on the tip of her nose. She would definitely not notice anything and Sebastian took that as a queue to stand up as well and walk around the table.
He had absolutely no idea what kind project that was currently happening but one thing was for sure he knew that if he mixed up a few things it could easily go wrong. He didn’t want to take it out on Y/N but he was so insanely tired of hearing her and Michael talk about the most unimportant crap they possible could like science.
He was jealous there was no doubt she was giving Michael much more attention that she had ever given him. He had told her about his feelings for her and she had softly laughed but that was also it. He couldn’t stand the sudden thought of a geek like Michael Clifford would manage to take over his role.
Mixing a few test tubes here and there he grabbed a purple one and dropped it into the mixture that they had already made before they left, his eyes glancing over his shoulder to make sure nobody was watching what he was doing.
He had no idea if it was a benefit or not but when the color changed into a darkish blue and the water started to bobble he knew that was his queue to leave. Also Y/N had showed back from the toilet so he was quick to turn back onto his seat next to Gretchen and pretend that nothing had ever happened.
“Michael? What did you do?” Y/N questioned confused once she was in front of their project, seeing the mixture keeping on bobbling as if it was becoming boiling water, an unsure look on her face when she tried to catch his attention.
He was too caught up with Luke to actual notice what was going on, deciding that it would be best for him but when he heard a loud whine suddenly echo in the whole science room he turned around fast.
It was as if everything around him seemed blurry and the only thing he could focus on was the devastated expression on Y/N’s face. She was clutching onto her bare shoulder that was so insanely red he could spot already that it was a third degree burn, something that was nearly impossible if she had followed the instructions right.
“Mr. Clifford, what have you been doing over here?” Mrs. Travis didn’t scold because she had so many other things to worry about in the second but her angry eyes looked over at him just for a short notice.
“You were the last one seen with the mixture. Something must have gone terribly wrong!”
“That’s impossible we did everything right.” Michael clutched onto Luke because he couldn’t believe what had actually happened, watching Y/N’s eyes become teary by the horrible pain that only would get worse from now on.
She wasn’t looking at him, she wasn’t looking at anyone. The only thing she was staring at was her feet as she was trying her best not to cry, not wanting to touch the burning spot and whined loudly when Sebastian came to help her with a cold cloth.
“I’m not even sure if the school nurse is able to help you Miss. Y/L/N.” Mrs. Travis said after scanning her shoulder, helping to remove the strap of her top so it wouldn’t be annoying the burned skin.
“I think what would be best would be to go down to the office and announce that you will be going to the hospital. I’m not sure if your parents are home right now or if it’s so bad we should call an ambulance.”
“I’ll drive her to it I’m in my dad’s car today.” Sebastian said and ran his hand through his hair again to show how nervous he was but there was something about his expression that made him suspicious.
“Good thing.” Mrs. Travis nodded her head in agreement and watched as Sebastian took her bag to help Y/N out, “We’ll clean up the mess and figure out what went wrong. We can’t have situations like these happen again as safety is one our most important things here.”
Michael’s breathing had become uneven and it didn’t help when he and Y/N shared one last eye contact before she left. He couldn’t tell what she was thinking if she was mad or if she was pissed but he was so ashamed of himself he couldn’t think of anything else.
That day he had grabbed his bag and sprinted out of science instead. He didn’t want to show everything that he was sad but he felt as if he had already ruined something that hadn’t gotten the chance to happen again.
He wasn’t just a nerd. He was a nerd who was a virgin and also so social awkward the only girl he had finally managed to talk to without stammering was scared away after getting burned by a mistake that was most probably his.
It was a question to him whether or not he should show up at the hospital to give his support and care. She was most probably angry at him seemed as everything pointed towards him but when Ashton announced that it was Sebastian messing up everything his temper boiled.
The boys had been the ones to convince him to go. What could possibly go wrong? It had been two days since the accident and he wasn’t sure if she was in fact angry. It was only something he had made up in his mind to protect himself from going out on water where he couldn’t reach the bottom of it.
“Michael you’re the last one of us to do something out of the ordinary! I’d say you go down to the store and by her a rose. Preferably red. All girls seem to love that and don’t beat you up for a mistake that Sebastian is responsible for.” Ashton had stated, being the one to show up in his room to get him away from his computer.
He had tried using many different excuses like he hadn’t prepared tomorrow’s homework when in fact it was Friday and they all knew well enough that Michael had made the rest of his homework for Senior year if it was possible.
He had to do this without wanting to or not, it would be for the best. They were science partners after all and he really wanted to make sure that she was ready to go back without being in fear of getting hurt again.
The walk on the hospital hallway seemed to be the longest ever. His hand was shaking so much he was surprised he hadn’t dropped the rose yet and he constantly had to remind himself of what number her hospital room was.
The door was open but not fully and he nervously crept his head inside. Everything seemed white like on movies, it had a huge window by the end of it and a small kitchen in front of her bed. She was sitting there with a shirt that was covering one of her shoulders and had her hair in a high pony tail.
“Michael!” She almost cheered when seeing his nervous face show up, his tongue resting between his teeth to prevent him from say something. Thank god she was alone he wouldn’t have survived this if her parents or Sebastian had been here.
“I’m so happy to see you.” She smiled.
“You are?” He questioned confused, almost dumb-folded. He didn’t know what to do himself so after shutting the door he stood by the end of her bed and took her in.
She looked just like the same expect from the redness on her shoulder. It wasn’t as bad as it had been two days ago and he was really happy to see that. It almost was as painful for him to see her go through it as it was to her experiences it on different ways.
“Of course I am. I missed your handsome face.” She giggled and folded her legs together, showing that she was wearing black leggings underneath the sheets and sat up in the bed to have a conversation.
“It’s nice seeing you too.” He stumbled over the words and looked down at the rose for a confused second, almost forgetting that he had it in the first place.
“Here,” He almost dropped it and nearly shoved it in her face, “This is for you.”
“Michael…” She said in awe, taking the rose from his warm hand and looked down at him, “That is so insanely sweet of you. Thank you so much.”
She looked over at her nightstand to grab a glass of water that had been placed, not hesitating to place the rose in it instead. But a frown came to Michael’s face when he noticed the large bouquet of yellow roses standing next to his now very little one.
“Those were from Sebastian.” She announced, reading his face, “He gave them to me on the day it happened. Pretending to be all sweet and that when I in fact had gotten a text from Maya telling me that it was him that made it happen in the first place. Not you.”
He almost couldn’t believe her words. His jaw fell and his eyes looked wide for a second but that was when the sudden feeling of something being pushed off his chest appeared. It was a heavy rock of guilt he had been counting for days and not sure of how to get rid of it.
“You knew it wasn’t me?” He stammered, “Because I haven’t been thinking of anything else the past few days because of it. It’s been killing me inside.”
“Of course I knew it wasn’t you.” She stated and removed the sheets completely to stand up.
“I know you would never hurt me like that. Never.”
He was still nervous but it wasn’t because of being shy. It wasn’t because of being nervous but it was because she was standing right in front of him so close he had never been this close to a girl before. He swore under his breath that if he would blush again or grunt he would never forgive himself.
“I should have-, have gotten you a bigger pile of flowers.” He mentally kicked himself for his wording but it was the truth and she glanced over her shoulder to see what he was talking about.
“No, you shouldn’t.” She stated, softly smiling back at him.
“Because that single rose right has ten times more meaning than the twenty Sebastian has given me. It’s not about how much you give Michael. It’s always the thought behind it that counts. Besides I hate the color yellow so it shows that Sebastian really never paid actual attention to me.”
If it wasn’t for the last part Michael wouldn’t have laughed but he did. It was a cute one coming out in a mix of not quite believing her words, not because he didn’t want to but because he still felt that he didn’t deserve it.
“I’m glad I chose the right one then.” He whispered, a buzz going through his whole body when she gently grabbed his hand and stood on her toes to reach and kiss his cheek.
He swore he could still feel it lingering in his skin when she pulled back, smiling like a goof especially because of his reaction. They stood like that for a few seconds not really knowing what to say and as she knew how awkward he could become she spoke up.
“I actually have to leave here in a few minutes. My treatments for the shoulder are over so the only thing I can do now is wait for it to heal and take painkillers to sooth away the pain.” She pointed towards where her back had been packed, his eyes following her.
“If you’d like you could come with me home? It would be nicer with some company as my parents are still at work and won’t be home before after nine this evening.” She turned around and let go of his hand to grab her bag and her sweaty but before she could lift it up he was faster.
“Let me take that.” He reached out so she wouldn’t have to go through more pain in the shoulder, not expecting that it would be that heavy but he didn’t care. All he wanted to do was to make her smile.
“That’s really sweet of you.” She smiled softly and threw her cardigan over her shoulder making sure that it wouldn’t stick to the burned dead skin, “Thank you.”
He nodded his head in answer and watched her head over to the other side of the bed, grabbing her phone with her charger and the rose she had given her. He furrowed his eyebrows confused when she left the yellow roses to stay, walking over to him ready to leave.
“You don’t want them with you?” He questioned confused and she shook her head in disagreement.
“I think they can make someone else really happy instead of me.”
She looked down at the rose with a warm smile and winked up at him with a chuckle, showing that Sebastian was in fact the last thing on her mind. All she could focus on was him and he suddenly fumbled with his keys.
“I uh-, I assume you don’t have anybody to come pick you up so instead of taking the bus or walk I can just drive us. I recently just got my driver’s license and my mom lets me borrow the car once in a while so if you’re willing…”
“I’d really like that Michael.” She agreed, leaning over to turn off the lamp and headed towards the door, “But I’m gonna warn you I’m horrible at navigating so prepare if I suddenly yell that we have to go to the left.”
“I think I’ll manage.” He admitted with a small chuckle, watching her smile and headed out of the room with her.
The car ride was silent but enjoyable. Getting the chance to drive on the road with someone else than his driving instructor was still new to him so it was nice having someone to talk to. When he was driving alone he would nervously curse at himself for not having fully view of everything going on on the road.
“You just have to turn to the left over there and we’re home.” She informed and pointed towards a small street with villa houses, similar to the ones where he met her at the party.
“Macey is actually my neighbor… In case you remember I actually told you that.” She admitted and pointed towards the oh so familiar house next to what he assumed to be hers, his eyes scanning for a parking lot and he awkwardly coughed.
“Yeah no I don’t really remember that conversation.” He admitted and stopped the car, pulling up the handle and pushed his seat back to get out.
“Really?” She questioned surprised, opening the door and followed him out. She messily opened her bag trying to find her keys, almost dropping everything to the floor if it hadn’t been for Michael ready to pick u what she had dropped.
“Thank you,” She giggled when he found her keys in the big pile of mess, “I seriously need to clean my bag it is such a mess I can’t find anything when I need it. You know that feeling?”
“No,” Michael blurted, he had never been this quick to answer before and usually he would speak after her mouth but he really couldn’t relate to that. As mentioned his stuff was always organized unless it was on his floor and that also included his school bag.
“That doesn’t surprise me either.” She admitted, pressing the key into the door and afterwards grabbed the handle.
Her house was surprising yet still as he had expected. It was large just like Macey’s had been and when he took a look around it was also very minimalistic. They used the colors black and white a lot, deciding to break the color code with small objects like plants or kitchen supplies.
“Want anything to drink?” She offered after placing her bag on top of the kitchen counter, looking over her shoulder to see him shake his head.
“No thank you.” He politely said and tapped his fingers against the marble counter, watching her fumble around for a bit confused. She looked out of the window as if she was in deep thought and when she turned around and grabbed her bag again she explained what was going on.
“I forgot about this. The doctor said I needed to use it three times a day to make sure that the pain won’t get worse. I think it’s actually some sort of alo vera gell.” She took out a small tube with some greenish blades on the front of it, waving it in the air to show.
“Oh…” He commented with a quivered eyebrow, “Is-, is that something you can do on your own?”
“No that was what I was thinking,” She said with a hidden smile, looking down at the tube as if she was in thought of what to do.
“Want-, uh-, Want me to help?” He scratched his hair and down to his neck, feeling the redness spread again and making his skin hot. This was something he had never done before but if she really needed the help he would be there for her.
“I’d appreciate it.” She admitted, grabbing his hand to follow him out of the kitchen and down towards a long hallway. They walked until they came to the last door which she opened, introducing her massive bedroom.
“This is my room. I’m sorry about the mess I didn’t really think I would have somebody over today.” She placed the tube on her text and fooled around to remove some clothes scattered on the floor, Michael no really knowing what to do so he took a seat on the bed.
“What the?” He questioned confused when he connected with something harsh, making her eyes widen and she hurried towards him to grab his hand gently and lift him up again.
“Sorry, this is where I hide all my books.” She giggled, removing the sheets and showing an ocean of books from school, some being completely ruined while others were fine. He would have covered them all with book paper if it was him but he said nothing.
“You can uh take a seat now.” She mumbled after removing the books and threw them to the ground, it was almost as if she could see a small glimpse of pain in his eyes by her action.
“I’ll just remove a bit of my shirt so you can do this properly.” She reached out to grab the tube from her desk and took a seat next to him, smiling gently.
He looked confused at first as if he didn’t know how to proper do this. She had turned around and lifted down her shirt so he was able to touch her shoulder blade, he felt a bit sorry because it was still very red but at least she wasn’t in as much pain as she had been.
“Just be gentle and give it a small layer. I’ll get my mom to do the second layer later when she comes home.” She explained and looked over her shoulder to see his confused stage, and he nodded his head in agreement, swallowing thickly.
“Okay.” Was the last thing he said and gave the tube a gentle squeeze onto his fingers. He knew that if the boys would witness this they would holler and laugh by his awkward reaction but he honestly didn’t know how to react.
“Does it hurt?” He questioned just to be sure and she shook her head in disagreement and turned around once he was done.
His lips parted and his eyes lowered down towards her chest where her bra was visibly showing. This was probably the first time he could remember seeing a bra in real life, it was lace and also gave him a little bit of view of her skin.
She was confused at first as to why he was looking at her the way he was but that was when her eyes followed his and saw the small fabric. It was a small giggle that came from her in reaction and she clumsily removed her top back up so it wasn’t showing as much as before.
“I’m sorry Mikey, that wasn’t intentionally.” She mumbled with blush on her cheeks but it was nothing like his. His neck was red just like his face and he tried to find the right words to say but nothing came out.
Just by the nickname he could feel how his heart fluttered. She was smiling so softly at him a weird mumble came from his mouth, especially because she was slowly leaning forward with her eyes half shut.
“I’ve never had my first kiss before.” He breathed the second their lips were about to touch and he swallowed so thickly he almost had to cough because of his salvia.
She only shrugged her shoulder and gently squeezed his hand, “Is that supposed to prevent anything?”
It was a nervous giggle that came from him by her question and he shook his head in disagreement. He could feel how all his nerves at once seemed to explode by the warm feeling of her lips against his, it was nothing like he had imagined and never had he believed that he would actually get the chance to kiss her.
“See,” She smiled and leaned in again, “You’re doing fine.”
“I just uh-,” He mumbled nervously and pulled away for a second but still had his forehead leaned against hers, “Yeah I don’t even know.”
“You just have to relax.” She explained and removed some of his hair that had fallen in front of his face messily.
“I’m a virgin.”
It came out so sudden his eyes widened along with hers. Now it definitely couldn’t get any worse and it was so typical him but it was the only thing that was on his mind. Of course she was already aware he wasn’t dumb but he didn’t want to disappoint her in any way.
She puzzled with the sheets between his fingers and looked back up at him, “You still want to be that?”
Michael had never experienced such feeling before.
Yes he was a mess, and yes it wasn’t flawless but he adored every single moment of it. He got the chance to kiss his girl, hold her close to his pounding heart as possible and had to take several breaks every time an article of clothes were taking off.
Never in his life had he expected this would happen. The way she was fumbling around to open his dress shirt and accidentally knocked down all the ball pens from the pocket made both of them laugh and having him to lean down and grab them all in reaction.
It of course ended up with him knocking his head against her face when she bent down to help, a loud whine coming from her but it was also mixed with laughter. He couldn’t count the times he had tried to apologize and saying it was an accident but she kept shrugging it off with a smile.
It wasn’t until that he nervously was pushed back onto her bed in only his underwear that he suddenly realized what was going on. Never in his life had he been feeling like this before and before he would know it, he would get the feeling of something he hadn’t experienced.
Her skin was warm against his, it was almost as if it was burning. The more they kissed the more he learned about the few techniques and he was even the one to start fumbling with the clasp of her bra. Not that it went well it ended up with her taking it off instead but at least he gave it a try.
It wasn’t until they were both completely nude and she took out a condom that he knew what was going on to happen. She was the one deciding to be on top both because of her shoulder and because of him being inexperienced and he honestly didn’t want it any other way.
This was what he had secretly imagined all the science classes they had been through together both as partners and as classmates.
“Okay so it’s gonna be quite a stretch for me as I haven’t been with someone for a while. It will hurt a bit but not something you should be worrying about. We’ll just be gentle for the both of us.”
He was so caught up in his thoughts he barely heard her and with the sudden feeling on his growing member he was left breathless. It was nothing like he had imagined, he wasn’t able to describe it.
Everything about the moment was absolutely perfect.
He didn’t expect that it would last for long because he knew it was far from doing it with his hand. It was new and he was feeling so many emotions at once he was happy he wasn’t on top because he wouldn’t be able to concentrate.
She looked glorious on top of him and he didn’t know what else to say, he almost felt too embarrassed to let a groan out that had been resting in his throat for a while. Neither did it help when she suddenly yelled and moved closer to his chest as if he had done something wrong.
“What happened did I hurt you?” He questioned nervously and nodded down towards their lower parts but she shook her head and kissed his chest.
“It’s just my shoulder you didn’t do anything wrong Michael. In fact you’re quite good at this I’d say.” She nodded her head down towards his hands that had been planted on her hips. He hadn’t realized himself but he did have a bit control of the pace.
He let out a breath of relief and leaned back on the pillow and shut his eyes. The familiar feeling was there but it was as if the power was added to ten times more, it was amazing. But he still wanted to be a gentleman until they both were ready before he finally released into the condom, something he never actually thought he’d get to experience in life.
To avoid hurting her shoulder Y/N also made sure to fall on her stomach onto the mattress right next to him after they had discarded the condom into the trashcan, and out of instinct he started to caress the part of her shoulder that wasn’t burned.
“You know Michael,” She yawned tiredly into her pillow and shut her eyes, “Since I’ve met you I’ve really liked you. You’ve just always been so shy I didn’t really know if you liked me back or not.”
It was an award winning smile that came to his face by her announcement and he leaned down to press a soft and shy kiss to her cheek.
“I’ve been in love with you since the first time I laid eyes on your beautiful form.”
She was smiling so sweet butterflies erupted in his stomach and he watched as she slowly slumped into a deep sleep.
Continuing to have his hand on her back he leaned down to his jean pocket to grab his phone and opened the group chat he had with the boys. They had left him a few messages here and there asking what had happened at the hospital and a smile came to Michael’s face.
“I finally got the girl.”
It was within seconds that he received messages back from the boys in between, Luke being in completely shock and wrote the big WHAT word. Calum made a few dirty smileys here and there where Ashton was the most appropriate one and congratulated him.
“I can’t believe it.” Luke wrote seconds later and Michael shifted in his seat to move closer to Y/N’s sleeping body.
“We finally got our girls.”
He looked down at her and caressed her forehead this time, seeing her lips being puked in sleep and breathed in and out slowly. He almost wanted to say she was even more beautiful now with sweaty hair and completely bare to him, he wanted to keep this love in a photograph for the rest of his life.
No matter how many times they had all been told that they weren’t good enough because of their personal interest and intelligence, one thought could they always stick to for sure. Love would always be the answer to everything.
“We finally fucking got our girls.”
