Logan’s Run, Jerry Goldsmith, 1976.

Logan’s Run is a great piece of sci fi, some excellent sets and effects and some bad. A great story with a lot of plot holes but I don’t care I love it. Then there’s the film’s score, done by my favourite film composer Jerry Goldsmith it’s futuristic while lending from the classic style of 60’s-70’s scores. Minus the whacky futuristic music it’s slightly like Planet of the Apes and that’s a classic as well. The is set in two stages the first is the city that is set under a 23rd dome where electronic sounds and keyboards are primarily used. The second being a post apocalyptic Washington that has overgrown with vegetation and a full orchestra is used for this. These two styles complement brilliantly and is smartly done. The score is nice and varied and now finally there’s a complete score made by Waxwork Records and this looks incredible. Give the film a go, if you are the type that needs non stop action it’s definitely not for you but the soundtrack sounds like something Kraftwerk would have done if they did film scores, set with beautiful orchestral music..... what’s not to like!

When I was younger, I always believed the 1985 cover of CREATURES OF THE NIGHT was done strictly for CD release (with the KISS back catalog being released on CD for the first time). Looking at the record again, years later, I still wonder WHY the band chose CREATURES tfor an updated cover? Granted, in 1985, the thinking may have been to introduce the (newly finalized) complete lineup of KISS, however still, why CREATURES? Of all the 80's releases up to that point, CREATURES OF THE NIGHT contained the coolest art work? And, in no way would KISS ever want to re-release UNMASKED or MUSIC FROM THE ELDER. I wonder if chart positioning had anything to do with the decision (LICK IT UP and ANIMALIZE charting higher) and hoping a new cover may drive additional sales for CREATURES OF THE NIGHT? Regardless, it's fun to note, that in 1985, with an album cover featuring a lead guitarist who in no way appears on the album, a tiny cat can be let out of the bag...in that the liner notes state both Frehley and Vincent appear on the album, whereas the 1982 release, NO lineup information is given.
