I love the premise of Omegaverse as a whole, but I wanted to ~Change it up~ So,

Thorin is (of course) an Alpha, but he has a horrible affliction that prevents him from claiming an Omega: He cannot stand the scent of them to the point he will literally get sick.

Everyone on Middle Earth knows the best Omegas come from the Shire, so he travels with Balin to the Shire so he can hopefully find one who's scent he can at least tolerate.

And he does, but there's a bit of a problem.

Bilbo frowned. "You seem to be having some troubles. Would you care to explain?"

Thorin's eyebrows furrowed. He ignored the question altogether, far too intrigued with his immediate realisation to focus on anything else. "I cannot smell you."

Bilbo narrowed his eyes for a long moment before shifting his focus back to the paperwork in his arms. "No you cannot." He was definitely bothered by the comment, if the way the edges of the file crinkling under his fingers was any indication.

"What are you?" Thorin asked, thoroughly perplexed. Even betas gave off some kind of aroma, and no scent blockers have ever worked to prevent him from knowing right away where someone's position in society lay.

"Look, do you want help or not?" Bilbo sounded exhausted, despite the festivities just beginning.

Thorin nodded, standing up. The hobbit led him out of the main event, muttering to himself as he shuffled the papers around in his folder, clearly looking for something. He stopped walking as a cart rolled by filled with various vegetables. Even during such an event, the Shire remained ever bustling with day-to-day activities. Thorin leaned over his shoulder, trying to see what Bilbo was doing. A gentle, light scent caught his attention, reminding him of weak black tea with the smallest touch of honey. "You're an omega."

Bilbo jumped at the sound of the dwarf's low voice next to his ear, slapping his folder closed. "And you Alphas have no respect for personal space!" He snapped.

Thorin stared at him, and more specifically, his neck. Bilbo bore no mark to indicate being claimed. "Would you stop?!" He shouted, and Thorin had to blink to break the obvious leering.

"I apologise. I've just never met an omega with a mild scent such as yours."

"Well now you have. I'd appreciate you not staring at me like I'm some kind of meat." The hobbit’s face was quickly growing flustered, "No wonder you Alphas are domineering the rest of Middle Earth, you're practically animals."

Thorin did his best to ignore the snippy comment. "Where are we going?"

Question 1: What inspired you to write this fic?

I had been reading a lot of time traveling fics, and typically they feature Bilbo being the one who is sent back. I really enjoy those, of course, but it did get me wondering what it would be like if Thorin was the one sent back! From there, I started thinking about scenes that would probably occur, and what Thorin would change, and who would know, and I knew I needed to write it because I couldn't find anything like what I was imagining.

Question 2: What was your favorite scene to write in this fic and why?

My favorite scene was probably the first time that Thorin and Bilbo make love, quite honestly. There are only two sex scenes in the fic (so far), and each one is special. That first one really shows the comfort and fun that can happen when two people are really connected, and it is still sassy and loving in a way that feels true to the characters (I think).

Question 3: What was the hardest scene to write and why?

It's a scene that hasn't been posted yet! Everyone knows that the Battle of the Five Armies is coming up in this story (it's the next plot point, quite literally), and it was very, very difficult for me to write. I had been procrastinating on it and am now procrastinating on editing and posting it because I'm just not sure that it's where I want to be. Soon, soon, it will be ready! Still very hard though.

Question 4: Was there any parts you had to cut/change before the final draft and do you have them to share?

Not so far. I don't really cut out scenes - if it's not working in the moment, I don't write it. However, that may change with the upcoming battle scenes!

Question 5: What overall impression/moment do you want readers to take away from your fic?

That there's more to Thorin being a great warrior. He's someone who is traumatized, and in this story, he is discovering that it is okay to recognize that trauma and to allow other people to help him, including others that he may not have considered at first. Plus, you know, true love. XD

Question 1: Did you have a plan for this story and did it stick well to that plan?

Heh. The plan was originally to write a cute little drabble about Bilbo being interrupted by Thorin's kisses. It was originally a prompt that one of my friends sent me. But for whatever reason, it kept getting pushed back to where it had been a year before I really had the time to get to it. So I felt like I had to do WAY more than what the prompt asked for, so... no, it did not stick to the plan.

Question 2: What scene are you most proud of and why?

Honestly, Thorin's responses to Bilbo being Bilbo. They're about to have sex, and Bilbo is worried about making sure the desk is cleared off appropriately, and Thorin is just super dry and asking Mahal why this is the person he fell in love with.

Question 3: Which character was your favorite to write in this fic and why?

Bilbo XD I feel like I wrote Bilbo much better from Thorin's perspective, and his snarkiness tends to come out more.

Question 4: What are 3 "hidden" headcanons or facts that you want your readers to know about this story?

The actual position used it just because I wanted it in a different fic that I haven't been able to write yet. My headcanon is that Thorin did end up damaging one of the pages that Bilbo was working on, and that's why he dies in the Hobbit book. Third, if you send me a prompt and I don't get to it for a year, it'll likely triple in sex and go up to an E rating!

Question 5: If you were to give this fic an alternate title, what would it be?
