For the AU prompt: Can you do one with the blackwatch boys (or just McCree) investigating a Hanzo that never left the clan, but is still racked with grief and guilt over killing his brother?
“You sure you wanna be here?”
“Shut up,” Genji said succinctly.
“That’s not a yes,” Jesse drawled.
“Shut up.”
“Shuttin’ up.”
“Do it faster.”
Jesse mimed zipping his lips shut and throwing away the key. Genji gave him the middle finger, and, ritual complete, the two of them snuck along the walls of the Shimada estate, silent as could be.
(He had to catch himself, about halfway through the trek - he’d been heading towards Hanzo’s old room. His brother was leader, now, and when he changed their trajectory without warning, Jesse followed wordlessly.)
(For that, Genji was grateful.)
(He really didn’t want to be here. Not that he’d admit it to Jesse’s face.)
Their only orders were to observe and report back. Nothing more, nothing less. Jesse was taking note of guard rotation as they closed in on the building Genji had singled out, and he continued to do so as Genji carefully peered through a window, and - there he was. Anija. Elder brother. A brother who had grown older, now, dark hair and dark eyes and muttering to himself as he wrote something down, a blue glow illuminating his face from a screen. He looked powerful. He looked exhausted. Genji felt a wild, hot rush and wanted to kill him.
But then Hanzo sighed, and dropped his pen, and put his hands across his face. Genji had exceptionally sharp hearing, and he could hear the words clear as day as his anija muttered, “If only Genji were here.”
Genji balled his fingers into a fist. Jesse was blessedly still and silent beside him, nonjudgmental and a steady support, and Genji, after a moment, nodded to him. He was done here.
The two crept on.
