in a coding class and my teacher is forcing us to use generative ai to make images and write code for us for some stupid assignment. I came here to learn. What is this shit.

my dad has been complaining that all his co-workers have been outsourcing all their work to ai.

recently, he decided to try it out for himself, out of curiosity.

(my dad is a software engineer)

what he found was that almost all the time, the ai output a ton of nonsensical errors, that he has to spend more time trying to fix then it would take him to write the code from scratch.

what's even more annoying, the thing sometimes spits back something along the lines of todo:fix, aka it tells the person to do it themselves after having already wasted a lot of water.

he said he's probably going to have to go through all the code that his co-workers have "written" to check for errors.

if this is what companies are replacing human workers with, well, I wouldn't be surprised if formerly well designed software starts falling apart.
