Ai Xia a left-wing silent film actress and writer of the book Xiandai yi Nuxing (A Woman of Today) who committed suicide in 1934 by consuming raw opium. Her death is considered iconic in Chinese film as she was the first actress in the Republic of China to commit suicide.

BACKGROUND: Ai is a half-demon who was born on Earth to a human mother and a demon father; however, because humans were not widely accepted in the Devildom at the time, the demon male moved to Earth to be with his beloved upon Diavolo’s support. there, they raised Ai, who fell in love with the theatre. it wasn’t until Ai was 20 that she discovered she wasn’t fully human, and at 22 (upon graduating college), she moved into the Devildom to learn her origins, studying at RAD.

Ai Xia (Chinese: 艾霞; 29 November 1912 – 15 February 1934) was a Chinese left-wing silent film actress and screenwriter. She committed suicide in 1934, the first Chinese actor to have done so. Her suicide inspired Cai Chusheng's classic film New Women starring Ruan Lingyu, who also killed herself soon after the release of the film.
