just about every last thing this side of the river reminds me of you: piers, benches, sidewalk corners & crosswalks, restaurant doors separating the one-way from the candlelight & Dewar’s.
but it doesn’t mean i feel the need to let you know.
maybe it’s sheer will. maybe it’s just a part of me that’s been suffocated by a shroud of doubt which seems to grow without ceasing.
your sentiments lack action and your words lack soul. there’s a resistive way about you that’s been there from the start. i knew it then and used to quietly keep patience, all while carelessly trying to convince myself that someday you might reveal your better side to me.
but that day never came. and i keep searching for it, even still.
when they creep, keep your memories safe, to yourself. i know they stalk you, too. i know i’m all around. but i also know i’d put my love to work for you, and i can’t bear to keep waiting for your head - filled with all its memories - to finally catch up to your heart.
