rambling for a sec
I dunno what it is about Aircar.
It’s a simple VR game, basically a tech demo. You get a cool little cyberpunk sprawl with a couple of flying cars here and there, wall-to-wall neon, the usual. You get to fly your own craft complete with the ability to do spins and flips and make yourself motion sick, if that’s something you experience. There’s a boost system and you can upgrade the boosts by finding and landing on different pads throughout the city, maxing your ship out at a wild 209 MPH once the turbo’s on. You also refuel your ship with those landing pads over time. You can crash. That’s about it.
It’s incredible. Of anything I’ve touched in VR, Aircar is the top.
Once you’ve touched down on every landing pad to max out your boost’s efficiency, that’s it. You have done the objective. But beyond that, I can’t seem to stop playing. I’ve put about seven hours into Aircar and I do not regret a single one. It’s more than likely that I could make it to all of the landing pads with my eyes shut at this rate.
This video is a clip of me just goofing around tonight. I like to put on music I haven’t heard before and fly around in Aircar before bed. It’s such a relaxing thing. I’ll start dozing off with the headset on sometimes. To circumvent this, I shake it off by kicking on the boost and playing chicken with the skyscrapers. And then I do it all over again.
If you have a VR headset, give it a shot. It’s free. You might get bored. You might get vertigo. Or you might really, really like it, like I do.
It came out about five years ago and got a little update, but that’s about it. I wonder if they’ll ever do anything with it? There’s an awesome framework here for some kind of simulator, I think. Maybe a game where you’re doing courier work? Would be interesting. Absolute shame to let something like this fall to the wayside, if that ends up happening in the long run, but that’s life.

Flying car update.

A prototype flying car has completed a test flight between two cities in Slovakia, spending 35 minutes airborne.
The AirCar Prototype 1 is powered by a 160 horsepower BMW engine, and comes equipped with a fixed propeller. It transforms from aircraft to road vehicle in less than three minutes.
It has now completed more than 40 hours of test flights, according to Klein Vision, including flying at 8,200 feet and reaching a maximum cruising speed of 190 kilometers per hour (118 miles per hour).
