AIR & PURE, ROLLER COASTER (2025)
But Air's free now. Loft, you'd better think about this carefully. Between the one she's been waiting for for more than 3 years, and the newcomer who she's known for several months, whom is she going to choose?
ROLLER COASTER (2025) | EP 5
One of my all time favourite heartbreaking GL scenes. I obviously don't need to point out how great Neko's performance is because you can see that for yourself but what you may not remember is what the score for this scene sounds like so here's a link that drops you right where this gifset starts. Special shout out to the really dark and foreboding strings that kick in just as Air reaches to take the cover off the painting :’)
Roller Coaster The Series | EP7

The thing is that...I have a lot of empathy for Air...But she doesn't understand that Pure won't save her. Her relationship with Pure won't save her. I would even say it'd make it worse. What she needs is not a relationship to cling to. What she needs is freedom. And even if being with Pure used to be freedom and happiness, it's not anymore, because too many things have been broken. She thinks that if they get back together, she's going to find again this sense of freedom and personhood she used to feel when they were together, but time has passed and neither of them are really the same person. What she needs to do isn't standing up to her mother to be with Pure, she needs to stand up to her mother FOR HERSELF, and herself alone. Once she has truly gained back this agency and embraced who she is as an individual, then she can go back to a relationship. I don't blame her, she's looking for safety. But in doing so, she's hurting Pure and stopping her from moving on. She keeps Pure believing that she's the one who'll save her, and that she needs her, and Pure stays because it'd feel like a betrayal if she didn't, it'd be like abandonning Air to her fate, without giving her the support (and an argument) to stand up to her mother. But at the end of the day, it's just going to hurt them both, and send them back in a place where they don't belong anymore and where they'll feel uncomfortable, out of themselves. It's just like Bam pointed out : it's been broken...And it'll never be the same again...it doesn't fit back together...You'll always see the cracks it left
It's so sweet... too sweet...
being a throuple will NOT solve it but it WILL get you what you want pure
Roller Coaster EP. 4 Thoughts
It’s so interesting seeing the shift in Pure and how Air reacts. In the past, Pure would always accept Air’s excuses and allow her back in without much resistance. Pure might’ve gotten upset but she still let Air have her space and be the one to set the “rules” of their relationship. Now that Pure has seen what it looks like when someone is willing to put her first and meet her needs, she’s less agreeable and less willing to take Air at her word. She isn’t okay with Air showing up when she wants/doing as she pleases. I was glad to see her confront Air about the fact that she’s been saying she’s going to leave Lamp for ages now and how ridiculous it is that she’s wanting Pure to continue to put her life on hold without any promise things will change while Air won’t even give her the bare minimum in terms of voicing her feelings.
This isn’t to knock Air either. She’s in a tough position and she’s so used to people pleasing and not putting her own desires first that she doesn’t know how to make a decision. She can’t stick to her guns, she’s been placating her mother and Lamp (to a certain extent) for years. The thing is, she’s expecting Pure to stick to the script. Pure is supposed to be the constant in her life, the person who will wait, who Air can always go back to and depend on even when Pure’s upset with her. Air buys Pure gifts and calls her constantly because I think that’s her way of trying to show she loves her but it’s not enough considering the circumstances. That’s not how people work and that’s not fair to Pure or herself honestly. They’re both different people now and they’ve gone through situations that have changed them. Air is wanting a return to the past but that’s impossible.
Both Air and Pure are remembering what their relationship used to be and there’s comfort in that familiarity but it’s not the reality anymore. I think Pure wants to move on but when Air keeps showing up and making these promises, part of her still hopes they can rekindle their relationship. It’s not right for Air to keep doing that to her but, again, I understand why she’s doing it.
All this to say that this show is really capturing a lot of lesbian relationship dynamics and I’m having a blast watching.
