Winter Writing Challenge Day 20: Presents
WWC13. For aisonnn.

Day 20: Presents
Riku sighed as she walked through the mall with Risa--the younger twin was picking out Christmas presents for all of their friends and family, and of course rambling about what to get Dark, but Riku wasn't listening, as she had other things on the mind.
"What's wrong, Riku?"
Riku looked up. "Ah, nothing... just thinking about what to get Niwa-kun for Christmas, is all."
"Ah, right!" Risa blinked, "It's your first Christmas as a couple, right?"
Riku turned bright red. "W-well, yeah, but that's not the point!" She puffed out her cheeks, looking aside to the nearest shop window--it was a jewelry store. Nothing there could possibly catch Daisuke's interest, never mind how expensive it all was.
"Then what is?" Risa tilted her hair, stopping at a nearby bench and sitting down, motioning her sister sit too.
"Just--I don't know what to get him. I don't know much about art, so I don't know where to start and what he needs, and I bet everyone else is getting him art supplies anyway, so I don't want it to be thoughtless like that--it seems like the easy way out. I want it to be special."
"Hmm... well, I mean, I'm getting him a scarf-and-mittens set." Risa supplied, "I mean, I thought it would suit him, y'know? So it can't be that hard to think of something he might like... he's the type of guy who'd like anything as long as you thought of giving it to him."
"I know, but still... I want him to be really surprised, to be really happy when he sees it," Riku leaned her head on her hand, "Shopping for his birthday was hard enough... now I have to do it again and I have no idea what to do. I mean... I know what he likes, but at the same time, what does he like?" She motioned with her free hand, though the gesture was vague, and Risa only understood what her sister was saying after years and years of practice.
"He likes art and pretty landscapes, but he's not a collector type so I doubt a nice snowglobe would do. He likes animals--I saw him stop to pet a kitty on the way to school before, and not to mention he has his pet rabbit thing, but what could I give him that's relative to that? He likes learning new languages and cultures--I guess he got it from his dad--but there's so many I wouldn't know which book on that stuff to give him, and which stuff he already has... he likes classical music but how many of those have new CD's nowadays and--"
Risa stopped Riku's rambling, abruptly raising her hand and interrupting with, "Why not give him something you like?"
"Huh?" Riku blinked, glancing over at her. "What do you mean?"
"Well... he's your boyfriend. He likes you for what you like and do, so there's gotta be something you have in common--or even something you don't have in common--that he'd take an interest in." Risa explained, "After all, if it was all about his interests, I don't think you'd be in a very good relationship."
"W--what do you know." Riku flustered, looking away.
"A lot, actually. I know you hate Dark-san, but this is something I learned from him." Risa patted her shoulder, "If he really loves you, regardless if you're just friends or if you're dating, he'll take an interest in the things you do, and not laugh at you for it when you bring it up."
"And... you know this how?"
"I got Dark-san into some of the anime I like." Risa giggled, and then burst out laughing at Riku's incredulous face. "I'm serious. I told him about it, and when I saw him next he actually talked about it with me. You know, stuff you can only talk about if you actually watched the show, not just read the synopsis on the internet."
"Dark did that?" Riku still stared in disbelief.
"Yeah. And it goes both ways too--Dark-san mentioned he liked Thai food, so on the next date I suggested we go to a Thai restaurant, even though I've never had Thai before." Risa grinned, "I really liked it though, and I could see why he did."
Riku sat back, looking thoughtful. Something she liked, huh...
She lit up after a moment. "Well, you're right Risa. I may not like Dark, but you're right--and you're a genius. I have an idea!"
Risa giggled, smiling triumphantly. "I'm sure Niwa-kun will like it, too, whatever it is."
"Yeah. C'mon, I know just the right store to get it, too!"
Hi there! I'd like to request a story of Riku shopping/looking for a present for Daisuke for your winter writing challenge
^o^ s-sure thing!!
