AITA for getting kicked out of my crush's wedding for fighting with my rival who crashed the party?
So I (41 M - young for a mer, I should clarify) have been in the thick of what you'd call a 'love triangle'. I've had eyes for my friend (26 F) for awhile, but so has another man (22 M) in our town. Real piece of work; he's technically my coworker too, but we should take that with a grain of salt given he's constantly no showing because he apparently thinks he's some breakout bard waiting to be appointed by the High King or whatever.
Anyway. Couple months ago it was brought to my attention that this guy was trying to sabotage my friendship by writing a letter to her and claiming it was from me, smearing me by painting me as some secret Thalmor supremacist? Honestly, maybe it's on me to stoop to his level, but I decided to be a little cheeky myself and write my own letter 'from him' saying how he'd be happy to have a housewife to loyally tend to his every need (low-hanging fruit, but it's tamer than being called a nationalist, right?)
So my crush stops talking to him after that, and I start traveling with a group of friends across Skyrim while still keeping in touch with her and sending occasional gifts I think she'd like. The guy seemingly skipped town not long after the whole thing, so even more of a non-factor now (and good for him honestly - he'd been living at his racist mother's house beforehand). A few months pass and I get another letter from her:
"You're invited to my wedding."
It threw me for a loop honestly. While yeah, I hadn't confessed to her yet, it seemed like she'd been showing more interest in me? She'd be pretty excited to see me whenever I stopped back in town, and she sounded pretty affectionate in her prior letters? Was I just misreading signals? Did I miss my chance?
What's even more wild is that she was getting married to someone I never even met? I legit never heard their name until that invitation? I thought I was proving my right to ask for her hand through my adventures, yet this relative stranger waltzes through town one day and sweeps her off her feet?
So yeah, I was upset, but I eventually rationalized that she was still my friend, so I should still show support for her.
Everything's alright at the wedding. I grin and bear it even if it's a living reminder of what I had wanted for myself with her, but she's happy, that's what matters, right?
Her and her spouse are about to exchange vows, and guess who barges in to object?
Yep. The prodigal imbecile returns, sloshed and in a tizzy and strumming his stupid fucking lute while exclaiming that it should've been him up there with her, that she'd been deceived by me and had abandoned a true friend in the process.
Naturally, I had to defend myself. I called him out for being a hypocrite who started shit first, I tried to push him out the door so he wouldn't disrupt the wedding any more, then fists started flying. Next thing I know my crush's spouse and brother are breaking us up and dragging us out of the Temple of Mara, and she's livid and yelling how we're both manchildren and how we both should get out of her life if we're just gonna make her happiest moment of it all about ourselves.
So now me and this asshole are thrown down the stairs on our heads. And because we can't just quit, apparently, we end up basically fighting and arguing for the rest of the night. It's miserable.
I'm actually writing this the morning after, so this might come off as a little charged. Still processing everything. I do feel really guilty how I acted, and I didn't want to ruin my friendship with her despite my feelings. But did I have any ground in retaliating against that idiot for crashing the wedding in the first place? Did we both deserve it as consequence for the whole letter debacle? I honestly don't know what to do with myself going forward, I was hoping to confess and settle down with her...
P.S. Also learned at the wedding from her brother that she was aware of my feelings for her this whole time and just... played along with it I guess. Figured it was worth mentioning.

u/goldenmerchant I have to agree with her, the both of you boys really showed your hands last night. Emphasis on boys; that whole letter game is the kind of thing kids get up to at playtime. She deserves someone who doesn't have to deceive their way into her heart.
↳ u/SmallTownBigGameHunter OP Fair enough.
u/ChainLightning Complicated situation, for all parties involved. Your 'rival' escalated situations; you responded in kind when you perhaps should've stepped back and been the bigger man; and she could've brought up her awareness of your feelings directly beforehand so you could have at least received closure sooner and more cleanly if she didn't actually reciprocate.
↳u/SmallTownBigGameHunter OP You have a point. I do wish the helpful stranger that'd 'sorted out' the letter mess would've talked me out of it rather than encourage it while I was caught up in emotion, though.
↳u/ChainLightning Consider that some helpful strangers are also bored strangers. Because it sounds like that love triangle was the only interesting event in town. Also have you considered said triangle might be more closed than you believe? You speak of this man an awful lot.
u/EriktheSlayer Geez man this is what goes on in your small town? I'd say that guy's the a-hole though, sounds like it all could've been avoided if he just chose not to lie about you to her.
↳u/SmallTownBigGameHunter OP I mean, when the community is so small and tight knit I guess it's bound to happen. You never have to experience something like that?
↳u/EriktheSlayer Rorikstead. Like. Doesn't have any women? Which is... weird, now that I think about it
u/SabreWitch You should realign yourself from this ordeal by undergoing a solitary trek through the wild. Let your spiritual goals lend you focus.
↳u/LordoftheHunt I concur.
u/Sventheskald Funny how you bitch about me so much yet spent the whole morning at the inn writing all this when you could've spent it getting away from me?? you left your gloves in the room btw. btw can you tell the innkeep to make extra charred steak this hangover kicks ass

Thanks to @unironicallytes for showing me this tag game! It's really fun, a guilty pleasure adapting the stories and characters into meta contexts. I'll likely make more just for fun.
Anybody who wants to do this for themselves, feel free!
tagged by @the-inkwell-variable, thank you! man, i have to do this for King Problematic himself, who I’m fairly certain would have a reddit account, and would post shit like this purely to bask in the internet outrage of it all (Rainier. It’s Rainier. worst man alive whomst i adore)

AITA for dating a guy I met at work?
throwaway for anonymity, but someone’ll probably out me anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so be it.
So, preface: I (36M) don’t date. I hook up, I sleep around, yadda yadda, I’m a big slut, whatever. Who cares. Point being, I’m not a relationship guy. Or I wasn’t, until I met V.
At first it was just a sex thing (also I thought he might have stolen something from my office so I was trying to figure out if he had — and he was cute, and into me, so I was like ‘why not?’) but now we’ve been seeing each other for a few months and things are…incredible. Better than I ever imagined. He likes me for me and not my money, and he’s into my spiders, which pretty much no-one else I’ve ever hooked up with has been cool about.
(It turns out he did steal something from my office, by the way, but we worked through it. He’s helping me with the project it was for now.)
Anyway, recently some friends of mine found out about him, and I thought they’d be happy I finally got serious about someone, but instead they’re on my case about how I shouldn’t be seeing V, that it’s inappropriate because of my job, that I’m ““taking advantage”” of him somehow, despite the fact we’re both adults who chose to be in a relationship.
It’s doubly irritating because before this one of said friends (W) was always like ‘you never open up, you never care about anyone, I don’t think you even know what love is’ and now that I do care about someone, suddenly it’s the wrong choice and I’m a terrible person just because he doesn’t like that I met the guy at work.
Personally I think W is jealous because we used to hook up when we were younger (and still do a bit. or did.) but it never went anywhere. As if that’s my fault. As if you get to choose who you fall in love with.
Edit: since everyone’s asking, I’m a magus (demonology teacher).
Edit 2: not that it matters, but V turns 20 in a couple months.

My coworker is at lunch speaking to her husband in Spanish on speaker phone. She doesn’t know I can understand them. They’re arguing about baby names. She doesn’t want to name the baby after his mom but he already told her he would. I’m beyond invested. This is like watching an AITA in real life.
I have a friend. Who hates Reddit. And Reddit users. Like vehemently. And then when my Husband changed his name went to Reddit and was like “AITA if I ignore my friends name change”. (My husband is Cis but decided to distance himself from his family and everything with a whole new name)
And then when he got flamed there, said he was wrong for going to Reddit for an opinion, deleted his post, and asked here. And as far as I know no one even acknowledged that post.
He also has a blog on here where he posts shit sometimes about us. And it’s his ‘diary’ and we’re the assholes for finding it and showing another friend apparently. Oh well. We’re probably not staying friends for very much longer.
I love how AITA posts are always only either like,
I accidentally walked in on my son and his boyfriend making pride bracelets. I didn’t know he was gay, and I feel like I accidentally outed him. AITA?
Or,
I 27(F) locked my boyfriend 29(M) in my basement so he could never think about leaving me. So for context, my boyfriend and I had been dating for like a year when I saw him with this other girl. I was really frustrated, and when I confronted him he kept making excuses like “We were never dating.” And “Literally, I just gave you my number at party once when I was drunk!” I decided this hurtful behavior was too far so I kidnapped him, and then elaborately faked his death so that the police would stop looking for him. Now he lives in my basement tied to a chair. I feed him from a spoon and only let him out on a leash to pee in my backyard. Sometimes if he’s really good, I lock the door to the basement so I can untie him and let him run around in there to get some exercise. He used to do silly little captive role play with me by trying to appeal to my humanity and begging to see his family again, but lately he’s been giving me the silent treatment, and I’ve noticed that he seems to be a little withdrawn and moody. He seems like he’s mad at me, but I genuinely think this is the best thing for our relationship right now. AITA?
Happy Friday everyone! Easter is one of my favourite holidays, especially when chocolate is involved! 😋 🍫
But this time, I'm nervous. I've been invited to my aunt's place. (They live outside London and it's my bio dad's sister)
I haven't contacted her since that time she freaked out over some comments I made on FB and one time I vented to a family member.
For context: I'm the estranged other kid who exists. Bio dad yeeted when I was barely a year old and I've been in contact for 7 years. Even then my bio dad isn't exactly a reliable father figure. But his side of the family are kind of Conservative and tight knit abd extroverted. I'm the shy little weird kid.
They've all known each other for at least ten years. There's been times where I've felt left out. I do try to contribute to conversations, but I always get drowned out. Even bio dad notices I clam up.
But again, these are so called "family members" that think my bio dad is an awesome guy, everyone wants to talk to him. I'm there too, but its like I'm just there.
Maybe its my self esteem issues and insecurity. But aunt literally texted me to say, quote: "I won't have anyone bad mouthing my family."
Okay, sure. Maybe what I said was inappropriate at the time. But I didn't plan it that way. It was a build up of anger and frustration. I've never had a dad and were all being happy families? I'm being ignored as an actual human being. I don't really care because these people have nothing in common with me.
Besides, it was one incident, and as far as I know my aunt was the only one freaking out about it.
But I overheard her asking my bio dad if "the trust has been mended" or some bullshit. She actually implied I was being a duplicitous, untrustworthy bitch! That says it all to me.
I don't particularly care. I'll just have to keep my mouth shut the entire time, if I can't find some way to wiggle out of it. As long as I get to enjoy my easter eggs!!

I (M/900ish) accidentally scare the shit out my once best friend's little sister so bad that she ran out into Chicago and was lost for 3 weeks. Later I kind of died and when I came back from the dead I almost killed her because she was being stubborn and wasn't listening to me. After that, I kind of revealed that everything that happened to her was the fault of another friend of her's mother in a not so nice way. I was told to by The Source, so it's not really my fault. AITA?
Talon
I (M/1300ish) got in a fight with a good friend over jealousy, causing an already frightened female to flee into one of the most dangerous cities in the US. Then I fucked around and didn't really help try to find her because my sister was having relationship troubles. Once she was brought back to the Chicago Sanctuary, I decided to leave with my sister because I was still pissed off at my friend and seeing the two of them working together made it worse. I abandoned my friend for years and when I showed up again, I was a total asshole till I was put in my place by the asshole I got in a fight with in the first place. I was in the process of fixing the past when I convinced a good friend (F/35) to help me get my sister back from The Source. She got stuck in the realm because my step-dad is a douche and almost died. I feel like I fuck everything up. AITA?
Cruz
I (M/none of your damn business) am overprotective of my sister (F/35) to the point I've almost killed an asshole that kidnapped her (M/900ish) and her exhusband (M/Immortal). Some say I get it from out step-father. 1500 years ago I failed a partner who was massacred and I fully gave into the darkness in my nature, completely abandoning the light in my soul. I was barely brought back by a couple of Nephilim. I closed myself off from everyone till I found my sister. Now I am affection to her and those she holds most dear, but I tend to electrocute first and ask questions later of everyone else, especially my grandfather (M/Immortal). I have stopped setting him on fire randomly. AITA?
Olly
I (M/Not Saying) tend to set people annoying me on fire. As the son of the flame keeper of the eternal flame of Heaven, I've enjoyed this for some time. I have a short temper except with certain people. One of my favorite victims is a mouthy grigori (M/900ish) but he's now hanging out with a female nephilm (F/?) who has powers over water, so she can put him out, right? I don't set humans on fire, so it's not like setting on fire can kill them, unless I want it to. AITA?
Thinnius
I (M/I have no clue) had served under a commander I considered a friend (M/Immortal) for centuries. Then the boss went and got a wife (F/35). The babe was wicked cool, and damn did she have some powers. But better than that, she didn't treat us demons like we were less than her angel friends. See that's kinda different than some of those other stuck up bitches that the boss had hung out with. And she paid attention to those of us who hung out around the boss. After a while, I liked her more than him. When push came to shove, I took her side and haven't looked back, even raised arms against him. AITA?
