Fluffy prompt! Kurogane takes over cooking one day, because the kitchens and meals resemble things he’s more familiar with. He wants to surprise Fai.
Fai chewed on his lower lip as he looked at the ingredients available to him. He had seen them before, of course--he wasn’t sure if there was any kind of food he hadn’t encountered at his point--but he had only seen them in meals that were already prepared. He had no idea how to put them together to create something delicious, and he was unable to read the language, so he could not follow a recipe.
Fai was knocked out of his thoughts by a tap of knuckles against his forehead, and he looked up to see Kurogane standing next to him. “What has you so worked up?” Kurogane asked, raising a brow.
“Just figuring out what to make!” Fai said, smiling. “There are so many options!”
Kurogane regarded Fai, and then looked at the shelves of ingredients. He looked back at Fai and crossed his arms. “You should take a bath first. The water will get cold,” Kurogane told him. “The kid and I already did.”
“We can wait twenty minutes for you to finish,” Kurogane said, putting a hand on Fai’s back and shoving him out of the kitchen.
“I’ll be quick!” Fai called as he slipped out to the bathhouse.
When Fai returned to the kitchen with damp hair and fresh clothes, he was surprised by a pleasant smell. When he stepped in, he found Kurogane pouring some sort of noodles into a large dish, large chopsticks held easily between his long fingers and deftly mixing the noodles with an assortment of vegetables. There were a few bowls of rice and soup, as well, and Fai blinked.
“Good timing,” Kurogane said without looking up.
“I don’t...?” Fai mumbled, stepping closer to look at the display.
“You’re not the only one that can cook, you know,” Kurogane said. “Now help me carry this to the table.”
“I don’t understand,” Fai said, shaking his head. “How did you know how to cook all this?”
Kurogane shrugged. “We have a lot of the same ingredients in Nihon. They’re all pretty simple to use if you know what goes well together.” He glanced at Fai, noticed the way his brows furrowed and his frown deepened. “I can teach you.”
Fai looked up at Kurogane with wide eyes. “Really? Would you?”
Kurogane nodded, picking up the noodle dish. “Yeah. It’s not a big deal. Now help me.”
Kurogane turned to walk out of the kitchen, but was stopped by a hand on his shoulder and a kiss on his cheek. Fai didn’t say anything, but Kurogane could feel him smiling.
Kurogane smiled and rolled his eyes. “Idiot,” He murmured affectionately as he walked out of the room.
