Com'ed art for Five is an Awful Number

I have recently updated Five is an Awful Number with this art! It was commissioned from Svitor ages ago and was meant to go with future chapters.

Avatar brainrot left me in the wake of pretty bad fandom experiences, and I've struggled a lot to feel inversted again, despite really enjoying the character designs and opportunities for creative outlet. I hope I'll one day recover the appropriate brainrot to continue Aitya's story, but in the meantime please enjoy this art.

Aitya conveys Mansk's question silently and Takira signs back in the sharp, bold language of a people often stretched along the river or diving in its murky waters. Fingers furled into a hook, to say she's heard something, and then spread out, fanning and curling, claw-like, before striking the air.  'What does that mean?' Mansk asks, his breath hot on her shivering skin. 'Palulukan,' she whispers. Her lips are stiff, her blood run cold. Even her fingers tingle as she signs back. Where is the warrior? Takira whips her head around, but Miles is nowhere to be seen. He must not have heard her call and continued on. Takira looks back, waving a short I can't see him. 'Oh, no...' 'What is it?' Mansk hisses, grabbing her arm. 'Palulu-what?' 'You call it... Thanator,' she says under her breath. 'Ah, fuck. Is she sure?'

Aitya is back with more recom shenanigans... I commissioned a fabulous art of her and Miles Quaritch *more than a year ago*, and it'll accompany next bloody chapter... so I'm making an effort to return to this series Y_Y Sorry to any fan or reader. It's not dead, I promise. We're wrapping this up.

After having the pleasure of receiving fabulous fanart by @veramitar for the Five is an awful number fic, and *countless* demands for this story to be continued, I have the pleasure to say that I have suffered and cried through an indecent 5.7k words second chapter!

There are English words and concepts Aitya still struggles with. Humans are alien, after all, and their many languages reflect that. Their world, as it was described by her teachers, is a frightening place. Still, it's hardly ever a problem, especially since most of the dreamwalkers of the Omatikaya she has interacted with were fluent enough in Na'vi that little would be lost in translation.  Miles and his warriors bring a very different challenge, and as the days go by, Aitya gets increasingly baffled by their use of the word job.

Hi! Just asking if u will continue ur Quaritch/Aitya fanfic 😭 it’s so good

Look, I've simply never had a fic blow up like this for an F/M pairing with an OC. It's been both incredible and frankly daunting, because I don't write romance, and contrary to what my most recent fic would have you believe, I don't write smut either. So I'm low key terrified all these commenters, lovely as they are, don't realise that I'm a gen master.

And like, don't get me wrong, I'll try my best to get there but... It's not going to be so much a romance than a character arc for Q.

I'm writing chapter 2 and so far it's Aitya and her (OC) best friend, and Aitya & Z-Dog... Mansk is also going to get some time in the sun before Q finally has his moment... the chapter after that should have more Q and Aitya alone time, before introducing Spider in the next chapter.

Right now I'm like halfway done with chapter 2, or a little over half, and yeah... :

Oh it's album of the year because I've played it like it was the soundtrack to my life, and also it's absolutely perfect to write to :

11. Something you want to do again next year?

Mmmh interesting! This one gave me more trouble than I thought. I immediately focused on some big things and went 'definitely not, not that, no, nope...' and realised my takeaway for the year is perhaps a little negative.

Though I've never done them formally and they were never popular so far, I think the one thing I want to 'do again' is comics. I'd like to study it more seriously and do an original piece. If you're gonna have 30 notes on it, you may as well have it be for your original work too, so I'd like it to focus on my own universes.

25. Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one

Quite a few! Obviously my struggle bug Elden Lord, a couple of Tavs, and then OCs for fics, some of which took more space in my brain than they have any right to.

I think the one who had the biggest impact on me this year has been Aitya, created for a completely off hand one shot written in bed before breakfast, that exploded in popularity so much that I caved and continued it.

She's sweet and somewhat naive in her hopes. Young, basically. She's a trader, and only a passable hunter and fisher. She serves as scout and glorified babysitter for Quaritch and his recoms when they spend time in their territory.

Jiraya shrugs, his beaded braids clinking over his shoulders. 'Have you seen them? They are wrong inside and they know it. They feel inadequate.'

'If they do, it's a feeling buried too deep down for them to know it. All they show is arrogance.'

'I thought that's what you liked about their leader,' Jiraya teases.

Aitya smiles, unbothered. 'Yes. It suits him. But he's also curious and tries to learn.'

'Tries,' he repeats, unimpressed.

'Jiraya, I try to teach, he tries to learn, and Eywa willing he'll eventually—'

'What? Wear proper clothes and eat real food and behave like a Na'vi? Trade his alien weapons for a bow? Speak the language without sounding like a sick pa'li retching nectar? Connect with Eywa? You are so full of dreams.'

'Dreams are good.'

'Not when you're waking. Dreams are for sleepers.'

Aitya leans back to kick him. 'And proverbs are for old men. I don't care if he changes or not'—a blatant lie—'but I can make them respect our ways.'
