To say Makoto was wary of Akechi would have been an understatement. She trusted him as far as she could throw him, possibly less, and couldn’t quite shake the feeling of envy that bubbled up at the sight of him.

This made it all the more shocking to find him on her couch, seated politely with his legs crossed as he flipped through a case file.

“Sae-san invited me,” he explained with a smile, sensing her confusion before she even spoke. “Normally, we’d look these over at the station, but I’m afraid there were some last minute complications.”

“Ah,” Makoto barely mustered a response. “I see...” she trailed off, then proceeded to busy herself with cleaning the shelves.

The period of silence that followed was nothing short of awkward.

Neither could recall what exactly happened after that. One minute, they were minding their own business. The next, they were debating. Though the subject at hand was inconsequential, the tension in the room became quite palpable, and in a move he’d come to regret, Akechi let a hint of spite slip into his words.

“As expected of a pushover.”

The barb hung in the air for no longer than a moment before Makoto rushed forward, fire in her eyes. If Akechi had known everything she’d heard from Sae, he might have thought to hold back. Consequently, he didn’t anticipate her attack.

“W-Whahahahahat?!” 

The case file fell out of his hands, forgotten on the floor as he fought the urge to laugh. Though he wasn’t a weakling, neither was Makoto, meaning it was only a matter of time before he was overwhelmed. 

“Niijima-sahahan! Ahahaha! Dohohon’t!” he protested as she dug into his ribs. “Seheheriously! S-Stohohohahahap!” he demanded when she pinched up and down his sides.

A bold squeeze near his hip wrenched a squeal past his lips, motivating him to twist around in an effort to crawl away. However, Makoto was quick to adapt, her fingers darting under his arms as soon as he raised them. Soon enough, Akechi was curled in on himself, eyes squeezed shut as he endured his ticklish torment.

"Still think I’m a pushover?” Makoto challenged.

“Nohoho! Plehehehehease! I’m sohohohorry!” Akechi repented through giggles.

Later, he’d wonder when Makoto would have stopped if they hadn’t been abruptly interrupted.

“Alright, the Director just sent over files for-” Sae paused halfway through the door, stunned by the situation unfolding in her living room. “...What’s going on?” she questioned cautiously, though the answer was fairly obvious.

“S-Sae-san! Hehehehehelp!” Akechi pleaded, reaching a hand in her direction. Suddenly realizing her sister had returned, Makoto scrambled to the other end of the couch.

Glancing at the pair suspiciously, Sae analyzed Makoto’s guilty expression.

“Is there something going on between you two?” she ultimately asked.

Akechi might have found amusement in Makoto’s humiliation... if only he weren’t so embarrassed himself.
