I'm so mad, and disappointed, I've been watching supernatural for eight years, a third of my life and now... I'm just so... Nothing
I think the worst part is I've been let down like this before, Avengers Endgame pulled the same shit, legit when Tony 'died' (I'm still in denial) Pepper his wife said "It's okay, you can rest now" so the minute Sam said pretty much the same I knew we were gonna be betrayed, I saw another anon say they would struggle to rewatch and lemme tell ya, it's hard, I've not rewatched a marvel movie since seeing endgame, even tho the iron man movies are my all time fave, I hate that I know what this disappointment feels like and I just had hope yknow? That maybe just maybe team free will would get that they deserved but they didn't and now I just... I'm sorry ive rambled... I needed to let something out...
You, my dude, are not alone. Both fandoms along with GOT and TLOU2 can sympathize. Oh don’t worry, this is getting a little long anyway. I’m on a ramble too lol.
It seems to me that writers choose to go the easy route by satisfying the casual ‘fast food’ (yes, I just came up with that) type fans. People who like such endings don’t question bad characterization, bad endings, character arcs that gets destroyed, etc. They watch it, thinks everything is A-okay and tells everyone he hates it that they should ‘get over it because it’s just a show/movie.’
I somehow avoided Endgame spoilers and didn’t watch until after the pandemic started (I finally did a full Marvel re-watch as I hadn’t been caught up in 4 years) so my feelings on it isn’t as hard as Supernatural. But I get you entirely, 100%. I too hate Tony’s death along with Natasha’s, and Steve’s ending.
Another way to look at it is this: Pretend like the ending never happened. Imagine it’s 2, 3, 4, however many years ago when it hadn’t come out. It’s not prefect but in a way it kinda works? These are our characters and now that their stories are over, we get to choose their ending(s).
I mean, at least we have fanfic? Idk what I’d do without AO3. It doesn’t dismiss any of the bad things but at least we can shine a light on fanworks.
