Humans weren't the only onlookers; there were plenty of curious seals, without people-names, watching from offshore. Penne periscoped to get a better view. Not sure what to think, Penne swam along the shore for a bit. Before long nobody could discern Gnocchi anymore. One of two small children brought to the beach by his mother to see the release (and hopefully to instill a sense of stewardship) was the last to say goodbye to Penne. Gnocchi was the first to go, undulating like a slug to the water's edge, then onto the moist sand until a wave overtook... hmm, they never mentioned their sexes... until overtaken by a wave, which wasn't all bad by Gnocchi's standards. Swimming was next, and soon Gnocchi was ducking under the water without the help of waves.
